What would the Bills do if they ever got the #1 pick?
Leonidas replied to Fingon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fold the franchise. -
Since you can't really project trades: #11 - Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas (50/50 chance he falls to us) #28 - Will Beatty, LT, Connecticut #42 - Alex Mack, C, Cal #75 - Chase Coffman, TE, Missouri (may require a trade-up) #110 - Jason Williams, OLB, Western Illinois #121 - Alex Magee, DT, Purdue #147 - David Bruton, S, Notre Dame #183 - Brannan Southerland, FB, Georgia #220 - Drew Willy, QB, Buffalo (seriously) <--- this one may be most likely

Denver wants to move up for Sanchez
Leonidas replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is all bull sh--. I don't think Sanchez is any better than Simms and Orton. You don't trade Cutler then move up to secure an unproven one-year starter. McDaniels is fruit of the poisonous Belichick tree. I don't buy it for a second. -
Remember when the Jets traded a 1st rounder to Oakland for Doug Jolley a few years ago??

Patriots trying to move into the top 10
Leonidas replied to In space no one can hear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Can everyone relax? I find it highly unlikely that the Patriots are moving into the top 10 for a TE, especially in a class this deep. The Patriots have been the best in years are manipulating the draft, so this talk - whether subterfuge or not - should not surprise anybody. If they are looking to move up, though, I would be shocked if it's for a TE. With Watson and Thomas, LB and DB are much bigger needs for them and there are some good players in the first round around where they pick. If anything, I would see them moving up for Tyson Jackson to supplant Richard Seymour eventually. -
Every team has a draft board, so I thought I'd put my own together. This says nothing for trading up, trading down, or otherwise, just the players I would take if available. This combines value and need. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Jason Smith Eugene Monroe Aaron Curry BJ Raji Brian Orakpo Everette Brown Michael Oher Brandon Pettigrew Tyson Jackson Robert Ayers Matthew Stafford Michael Crabtree Mark Sanchez Andre Smith Will Beatty Malcolm Jenkins Ebon Britton Brian Cushing Ray Maualuga Peria Jerry Alex Mack Max Unger Eric Wood Andrew Levitre Aaron Maybin Connor Barwin Lawrence Sidbury Chase Coffman Jarron Gilbert Jamon Meredith Jared Cook Phil Loadholt Kraig Urbik Michael Johnson Larry English Ricky Jean-Francois Alex Magee Clint Sintim Ron Brace Evander Hood Shawn Nelson Travis Beckum Louis Delmas Patrick Chung Michael Bennett James Laurinaitis Cornelius Ingram Darius Butler Pat White Jeremy Maclin Darrius Heyward-Bey Knowshown Moreno Beanie Wells Percy Harvin Kenny Britt Hakeem Nicks Alphonso Smith Donald Brown D.J. No argument there. Maybe moving up from the 3rd into the late second, packaging one of those 4th rounders we have. We'd still have three picks in rounds 4-7 for depth and future picks.

You think the Bills chose #28, 4th, and 6th over #21 and 3rd? Seriously??

Worst Draft Ever. Do not read!
Leonidas replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Apparently anyone who hits the gym hard is now a "workout warrior"... -
FWIW, from McShay: No OT for Bengals? We've heard a lot in recent weeks about the Cincinnati Bengals and their need for a franchise offensive tackle, but rumblings are starting to surface that coach Marvin Lewis could talk the organization into drafting Orakpo if he is available at No. 6, and assuming both OTs Jason Smith and Eugene Monroe are off the board. The Bengals have been looking for years for an impact edge rusher, and while we believe Orakpo fits best at end in a 4-3, he does have experience dropping into coverage and could give Cincinnati a lot of versatility and flexibility in its hybrid 3-4/4-3 system.

I know this is more of a thread about jbb being a complete moron, but here is the latest McShay rumor on BP, FWIW: Who wants Brandon Pettigrew? Gonzalez-to-Atlanta takes Falcons out of TE mix Comment Email Print Share By Todd McShay Scouts Inc. Archive The move the Atlanta Falcons made in trading their second-round pick in 2010 might have been a product of the interest TE Brandon Pettigrew is generating ahead of them in the first round. Pettigrew could very well be off the board when the Falcons come on the clock at No. 24 overall, so by making the trade they assure themselves of getting another weapon for QB Matt Ryan and allow themselves to fill another need in the first round. So where might Pettigrew land? The New York Jets (No. 17) and Philadelphia Eagles (No. 21) both have a need at tight end, and Baltimore Ravens (No. 26) will be in the mix if the Jets make a move for a quarterback (Mark Sanchez) and the Eagles trade their pick for a receiver (Anquan Boldin) or take a running back instead.
-
The problem is, TE is so deep in this draft and Pettigrew isn't known for his pass catching. If he's going to stay in and block a lot, then fine. But don't try to make him into T-Gon. And try not to take him at #11 when there's no chance of anyone else taking him until the 20's.

Worst Draft Ever. Do not read!
Leonidas replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pass. I don't like Oher at #11, LB isn't as pressing with the FA's out there, and TE is completely ignored. But I appreciate the effort. -
Lombardi hearing pass rusher at 11
Leonidas replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For the second time in as many posts, I hope you're wrong. 3 sacks his senior season. But Texas boys are "coddled," so Orapko is out?? Give me a break. -
Well, let's not go overboard with a C at #11. But I agree 100% otherwise. I'd rather reach a little for Pettigrew at #11 than trade away the future for some bust OT. Everything I've read has Smith playing OG or RT when all is said and done. The fact that some people think this is a good idea blows my mind.

Tony Gonzalez traded to Atlanta
Leonidas replied to Tim Anderson's Lunch Pail's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My apologies, I didn't realize it was next year's 2nd rounder. That does tilt it a little more toward Atlanta, although I still believe KC got the better of the deal. But again, only time will tell. -
I still wouldn't. You might as well have signed Peters - the cost will be about the same and Monroe is an unproven and will cost draft picks that Peters didn't. But I wouldn't take my life over this like Andre Smith.
-
I know I come off as a negative poster (it's hard to see the silver lining sometimes), but did this really deserve it's own thread??? You just re-stated your opinion from the LAST Pettigrew thread just a minute ago...

WOW - GREAT MOCK DRAFT!!!!
Leonidas replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Isn't Pettigrew almost a legit OT when it comes to blocking? Apparently he owned Orapko, among others. If that's true - and I'm not saying for sure that it is - but wouldn't he add double value? He would help sure up our line and be a threat in the passing game. Unless he is really too slow to contribute (which I don't think he is). He seems like a Heath Miller clone to me. If we're going to trade him though, it seems that we should either trade down from #11 or trade up for #28, irrespective of what Peter King thinks. Especially in light of the Gonzalez trade likely taking out Atlanta and the LJ Smith signing taking out Baltimore as potential suitors. IMO, the fall to #28 isn't all that crazy now. And if it doesn't happen, it's the deepest draft class in years. -
What player will make your head explode
Leonidas replied to Stl Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm going to go with Andre Smith. Or wait, who will make my head explode if we pass? Hmmm... -
Be careful. Dissenting opinions aren't all that welcome on this thread.
-
I hope you're right (except for the part about taking Jenkins, that is). Jason Smith or Monroe are at the top of my draft board, but only at #11; anywhere in the top 5 and if the player busts the team is set back half a decade. Do *not* trade up under any circumstances. Take the best available player on your board when your time comes, and listed to offers to trade down (although don't go crazy, you still need talent here).
-
Mike Williams was the best Mauler in the '02 draft. You basically traded Peters and the #11 and #75 picks for a #28 and a guaranteed bust. Glad it looks "OK" to you.
