  1. Just got back on. Did Fewell interview today? Not likely anything will transpire untill this ruse is out of the way.

'Yeah, we just kicked you and everybody you know to the curb yesterday but hey, we're 'interested' in you as our coach going forward..'

IMO, any way you look at this, from Fewell's point of view, this is very ugly.

it would be somethin if after firing his assistants that Fewell REFUSED this bogus Bills interview.

Giants, Bears may compete for Fewell

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 5, 2010 7:12 PM ET

Perry Fewell will interview for the Bills head coaching job this week, but he's a long shot to land that job.

It doesn't sound like he will be out of work for long, though.

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reports Fewell is likely to become Lovie Smith's new defensive coordinator in Chicago if he doesn't get the Bills gig. Bears fans wanted an entirely new defensive scheme, but that would require a new head coach.

As we were just about to post that news, the Associated Press reported that Fewell will interview Thursday with the Giants about their defensive coordinator position.

Fewell is a natural fit in Chicago, as he worked under Smith in St. Louis and Chicago in 2005. The Giants don't run a Tampa 2 defense, the scheme Fewell was raised in.

  2. Cowher and the Bills are playing a waiting game until Shannahan signs his deal to determine what the market value for a top notch football coach is.

It is being reported that Shannahan is going to get 10+ million to coach the skins. I would bet that Cowher would end up costing a franchise like the Bills a bit more than that. Thanks Dan Snyder.

i agree, i just posted the same thing in one of the 50 other "cowher" threads....."IF" the bills are willing to match shanahan's deal, i think Cowher would accept.

  3. I think Cowher does want to coach this year. Just not in Buffalo if he can help it. Right now the Bills are Cowher's "date insurance" for the prom. He knows he can dance with us but is waiting to see if any prettier girls will go with him.

While Cowher can always go back to CBS I think he feels like he can't waste another year from the NFL. The longer he's out of coaching the more the game will pass him by. That's why he can't bring himself to say no to the Bills like Shanahan did.

When it comes done to it, and no better jobs are available, he may say yes eventually. The problem for Buffalo is we can't wait around for Cowher to decide. We have to look at other candidates.

    PTR

and technically, Cowher was not the bills first choice as they made a run at Shanahan. anyways, he and buffalo are clearly still in play......all of cowhers other options are drying up. i could easily imagine that Cowher was expecting a $10 million a year offer (what shanahan was reportedly demanding) and the bills haven't gone that high yet with them thinking they don't have to. they probably are both waiting to see what Shanahan signs for in washington. For discussion purposes, lets say Cowher cost $10 million a year , while Marty, Billick and all others might cost $5 mil a year........lots for nix, brandon and ralph to consider.......is cowher worth twice as much ?

  4. according to very very deep sources at obd billick will be signing wed.

let's see, you have Cowher signing on tuesday......Billick signing on Wednesday......claiming in the shout box you are 9 years old.......anyone signing on thursday ?........hopefully you will be signing off soon.

  5. The Buffalo Bills have commenced "Operation Cleaning House."

On Monday the Bills fired their entire coaching staff -- including interim head coach Perry Fewell, FOXSports.com has learned. Fewell, however, is expected to officially interview Monday for the Bills' permanent head-coaching position.

The team has already met with former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher and believes that his interest in the opening is genuine.

Buffalo is also making plans to interview several current assistant coaches to fill their head-coaching void. That list includes Eagles defensive coordinator Sean McDermitt, Cardinals assistant head coach Russ Grimm and Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier. Other possibilities include Jets offensive coordinator Brian Scottenheimer and Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera.

  6. back to my point......

"meeting was not substantive".......thats laughable........did they share chicken wing recipes ??.......ralph wilson and russ brandon get on a plane and meet with cowher last week in secrecy, when cowher claims he is NOT talking to ANYONE before the season ends is substantial.

"meeting not substantive" is code for "we did everything but talk/agree about money". you can bet they talkled about Nix's role and how that would effect Cowhers control/influence over personnel decisions, they reassured him on a succession plan in the event ralph passes, they probably mentioned all the CAP space we will have, told him he has total say over assistant coaches, the bills made it clear he is wanted, cowher made it clear he is "impressed and interested".

today Perry Fewell gets to make his case to Nix, why the "interim" tag should become head coach. The bills are clearly looking past fewell.

  7. The NFL has not yet announced the order. ESPN Stats & Information released projected order for the top 12 picks, based on record and opponents' strength of schedule. That information appears in the chart.

The Rams hold the first overall choice. The Seahawks hold the sixth choice and the Broncos' first-round pick, expected to be around No. 14. The 49ers appear to hold the 13th choice, plus Carolina's first-round choice, expected to be a few picks later.

according to ESPN, we lost ONE draft spot (to the raiders) :

    2010 NFL Draft order

Pick Team Record Opp. strength of schedule

    1 Rams 1-15 .520

    2 Lions 2-14 .523

    3 Bucs 3-13 .555

    4 Redskins 4-12 .492

    5 Chiefs 4-12 .516

    6 Seahawks 5-11 .477

    7 Browns 5-11 .512

    8 Raiders 5-11 .527

    9 Bills 6-10 .516

    10 Jaguars or Bears 7-9 .496

    11 Jaguars or Bears 7-9 .496

    12 Dolphins 7-9 .559

  8. i'm not for or against any of these.....but a couple of ideas floating around that do not involve draft pick incentives or financial penalties are:

#1- SCHEDULING.....the league could go heavy with "division" games in last two weeks of season, thereby theorectically making them more important.

#2- SEEDING.....a committee, like NCAA basketball, could "seed" teams. Where in this current season a team like San Diego might get the #1 seed based on the fact they have won their last 11 games and Indy who is coming in on two losses would not.

as it currently stands, Indy had no incentive to win or lose in the last two weeks, because it had no effect on them keeping home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
