  1. I hate to see families get broken up.  Kids being involved at the age they are is tough and wouldn’t wish it on anyone.  I think Tom loves the game and everything that surrounds it so much that he just couldn’t let go and it is coming at the expense of his family.

He truly is a one of a kind, no player could match his mentality and even though it helped him propel his career there wasn’t enough room for much else.

It does not matter who the back is - teams stack the line and they push our linemen back.

Wasn't our last offensive play this week a QB sneak?

The problem on 4th and 1 is a drop is a turnover.  So passing is always a bit riskier.  I don't have faith in the offensive lines ability to run block literally any type of run call.  Seems like crack tosses have worked, and some pin and pull type of stuff.  But thats not usualy what you want to do when you need a yard.  Add jet motion, hand some balls to mckenzie going laterally and get them questioning it so they aren't just pushing our guys back. Add a hard count.

I agree, they are going to have to mix it up and disguise looks and formations, switch up snap counts all sorts of things but at the end of the day they have to to be able to run the ball some with their RB's with some sort of level of success.

Have to find a way to get the opposing teams linemen to not just fire off and push the O line back into the backfield.

  3. This is a real problem fand  is the only true weakness on this team but a potentially costly one.

I have very little confidence that on short yardage situations that the team can get the push that it needs to consistently get first downs running the ball with their RB's.   They either have to somehow get this fixed during the course of the year or look at alternative ways to get the yards needed.   Having Allen does afford a lot of other viable alternatives but having your meats and potatoes approach of smashing it ahead for a yard or two should be your #1 option and without that option it can create problems.

I'm certain in the offseason the Bills will draft a couple O-linemen in the early to early mid round picks but have to figure out a way around it for this year.

  4. I see lots of people arbitrarily wanting White to start later on.  He should play when he's ready, you can put him on a snap count and I think that would make sense so that his body gets used to actual football movements but there is no reason not to play him if he's ready.

What happens if Poyer doesnt step into that pass and get the INT? He literally won us that game. Completely different outcome if Ravens get a TD there. At the very best we go to OT after going down the field and getting a TD.

Same can be said of Shaq Lawson, if he doesn't get pressure and cause Lamar to back peddle as much as he did then the throw he has to make doesn't have to go from as far with as lobbed of a throw which most likely means the pass goes for a TD.

Same can be said of Rousseau, if he doesn't have contain with his pass pressure, Lawson's pressure most likely would have caused Lamar to scramble out to the side where he threw the ball making it a much easier pass.

Often times we see a player "make the play" but in reality the teamwork involved helps that play become possible.

  6. This team is absolutely loaded at the DB spot.

White, Jackson, Benford, Elam and Taron.    That probably is the best 5 CB combo in the league and when you look at the safeties it's the same, Hyde, Poyer, Hamlin and Johnson.

We are stacked with DB's which is why we can have multiple injuries on this front and still perform at a high level.

    This is true.

But the reality is that the Dolphins and teams that live in that heat have to condition better just to play in it.

I watch tons of college football played in the south and those games go on for 4 hours regularly and the players don't drop like flies the way we saw the Bills doing yesterday.

I don't think conditioning is a strength of the Bills team because their sports science probably tells them not to push players that hard..........because it results in greater chance of injury.

That is the trade off.   The Bills have had a very healthy team in terms of the controllable soft-tissue type of injuries but they are not built to be on the field for 40 minutes of the game on either side of the ball.   We saw it in the divisional game vs KC when the defense was totally gassed at the end.

You could argue that their approach leads to a lot of dominant performances but also that it hurts them in battles of attrition.........which is coincidentally what a lot of these 1 score losses have been.    Hell, they were gassed in Jacksonville last year.    Who are we kidding that this Miami game was just some kind of outrageous outlier weather wise?

You make a very good point and I had never really thought about that.  I agree that this is the tradeoff but in some of these close games maybe it's costing them.  It's hard to know but logically it makes some sense.

I went to the Jax game last year and I don't remember it being too hot.  I believe it was somewhat overcast and I believe was in the middle of the year.

This Miami game did feel different in terms of weather.  At least the players reaction to it was, I don't ever remember seeing the offense look so exhausted as this game.

  8. It was just one of those fluky sort of games where we got the L.   So many injuries going into the game, lots of injuries during the game, players dehydrated and gassed who didn't have anything left in the tank at the end.   Not to mention all the missed opportunities by players and the perplexing elimination from the playbook of the QB sneak.  That 2nd and 1 from the goal line and not just having Allen QB sneak with having Gilliam and Zack Moss there to push him in was for me the most frustrating part of the game.

That 3rd and 22 that they converted I don't put on Frazier or McD, Waddle made a very nice cut to the middle he sold the post and that is where the Safety bit and turned him around. Even though that was a hugely impactful play, I chalk that up to being a great play call and execution.  The defense played really well, despite not being able to get consistent pressure.

The Bills are clearly the better team, but with all these mishaps, weather and injuries it proved to be too much to overcome.

Next time the Bills will blow them out.

  9. Just now, Ethan in Cleveland said:

Honest question, for those posting Johnson and Hamlin will be fine. What are you basing that on? Hyde and Poyer have barely left the field in the last four years. There is very little game tape for any of the back up safeties. For a few years, Neal was the 3rd safety.

I'm not saying they can't play well, I just don't understand all the posts that say the defense will be fine or that the backups will play well.

Because in the limited time he has played he has played well.   He also always plays well in the pre season.

You can read in the commentary from Bills players even former players who believe that Jaquan is a baller and just needs his opportunity to show it.

  10. If Oliver and Settle are back, along with Poyer then I would say the biggest loss out of Phillips, Dane and Hyde would be Dane.

I feel pretty good about having Oliver and Settle back, they should be able to pick up the slack for Phillips absence, Hyde will be replaced by Jaquan who is more than capable to be the next man up.

I like the rookies a lot but it is Tyreek and Waddle so even though I do trust the rookies, it's a tough match up for them.

  11. This so far has been a different Jordan Phillips than we have seen in the past.  Jordan was always a fantastic penetrator who was able to shoot gaps and disrupt plays and get pressure on the QB.   What I believed his weakness was that he wasn't stout at the point of attack and that he wasn't a good run plugger which was somewhat surprising considering his size.  But over the past two weeks not only is he penetrating but he's also clogging up running lanes very effectively.

He's been playing at a very high level the past two weeks.
