  1. The more I think about it the more I’m warming up to it.  By all accounts he’s looked impressive and explosive in his workouts.   He is a proven receiver and was on the road to being the SuperBowl MVP.

His market seems to have really cooled down, I think a 3 year up to $28m contract with about $10m guaranteed would make a lot of sense.

If the Bills did this they would t need to draft a WR with either of the first two picks and could free themselves up to address other needs.

  2. It’s easy to overanalyze the results of one game, especially so when you get beat up so convincingly on both sides of the ball.

There is no doubt that the team despite its win streak over the past 2 months was not firing on all cylinders and there were many reasons for that but even so, we were winning.

There doesn’t need to be any sort of an overhaul,  Allen will be healthy to begin the season, Miller and Hyde will be back, White should begin looking like a closer version of himself, Spencer Brown shouldn’t have his back issues, McGovern should be a good upgrade in the pass game, Harty should add another effective weapon to the arsenal and hopefully Dorsey will better use his weapons and their strengths to the offense.

A few tweaks and the team will be right there competing for the top spot in a very tough AFC.

I just don’t think that he’s the type of back that the bills are looking for

And it’s not that he’s not good he’s just not a pounder

James Cook replicates a lot of what he does

I agree that the Bills are probably looking for more of thicker bodied, in-between the tackle runner.   Beane pretty much said as much in his presser.  I’d be happy to have Singletary again, I just don’t think that is who they are looking for.

I thought Foreman was going to be the guy they picked up, now that these sort of options are dwindling down they either get their guy in the next few days or they settle on a low end vet to compete with a RB draft choice to fill that spot.

For those saying his speed is inadequate, they're wrong.  I remember reading his scouting report after the combine, he is explosive and very fast on the 10 and 20 yard splits which is the world he'd be living in as a LB much more so than the 40, which is still well above average.

  5. He's a clear upgrade from Saffold (season 2022).   I would suspect this factors in to the draft strategy but I wouldn't be surprised that the Bills go with a versatile C/G draft pick in the 2nd/3rd round.    Also, just reading in between the tea leaves, I do not think the Bills will draft a tackle to replace Spencer Brown and most likely will either get a draft pick Round 4-7 and/or a FA to compete with him.

  6. The problem with a trade is value.  What if he turns out to be a stud?  He has shown stretches of his career that he can be dominant.

Then again he’s shown to be rather inconsistent at times.  If you trade him it would have to at least be a 2nd rounder, if you can’t get that I’d rather just roll with him another year and hope he has a breakout season in which you could re-sign him then.

  7. Simmons will end up being a $20 - $23M a year player.   He'd put a tremendous strain on the cap, with that said he is absolutely elite.  Top 1%.

He's a game wrecker, will get lots of pressure, TFL's and run stuffing.

I'd consider trading Oliver and a 2nd rounder for Simmons.  I don't know if they'd take that, probably would have to be maybe 2 2nd's or 1st to go along with Oliver.

I don't know why they'd consider trading him, I get freeing up cap space but he's a foundational piece.

  8. If we were to pick up a WR in FA, the one I think that would make a lot of sense would be Adam Thielen.  He wants to go to a contender with a good QB, he's still a good possession WR and I do believe there will be a much more concerted effort from the Bills to adopt a similar transformation arc of what we saw with KC going from early 2021 season to being a more dynamic down-the-field passing team that would get stymied against good pass rushing teams and schemes to a more ball possession passing team that led them to an incredible offensive team this past year.

I don't think we should abandon or come close to abandoning the down-the-field passes but we definitely need to get more possession oriented and a WR like Thielen who is crafty and a good route runner would be a good affordable option.

  9. This guy could be available in the 4th or 5th round and looks like a potential TE sleeper.  Off-the-charts athleticism and size and had a really productive junior year.

Looks like he could turn out to be a good blocker and has some wiggle to his route running.

  10. A clear upgrade either at the Right tackle or OG spot.

Or someone who will compete vs Gabe for the #2 WR

An in-between the tackle sort of RB that will get around 5-10 Carries game

Possibly a MLB to replace Edmunds if the Bills don’t draft one.

Possibly a safety who will compete for a starting spot along side Hyde.

Possibly someone who will compete for a roster rotational spot on the D-line.

Possibly someone who will compete for a roster spot at CB.

    Trades

M Hyde is very tradeable. and getting up there in age.  Hamlin will be back.

ED Oliver will get us a huge trade, he is a nice player, but we need the room.

AJ Epenesa he is Eric Flowers.  All potential that is never realized.  We will get a 4th rounder.

Mitch Morris... injury prone.  I don't want to cut him or Restructure. We will get 5th. (too much dead money)

    Easy restructures or new contracts

Reggie Gilliam.... add a year and restructure ( or a flat out cut)

    Dion Dawkins a mild restructure

    Tre White Mild restructure

Spencer Brown..  (I believe he will be great one day, lock him in now)

Nyhiem Hines.. full restructure and add a year.

    Cuts

Isaiah Mckenzie (or a long term low pay restructure  instead of cutting)

Siran Neal... nice player.. but way over paid... there are nice Safeties in the draft.

Hyde is still producing but won't get good trade value -    KEEP

    Ed Oliver -  TRADE  ( 2nd - 3rd round value)

AJ Epenesa - Shows some potential not worth trade value -  KEEP

    Mitch Morse -  KEEP

NyHiem Hines - Ask for pay cut to stay

    Tre White - Restructure

    Dion Dawkins - Restructure

    J.A - Restructure

    McKenzie - CUT

    Edmunds - LET WALK

Draft and FA priorities for significant playing time or starter

    WR

    RT

    Guard

    MLB

Safety (If Benford isn't the answer)

    Draft and FA for Depth

    CB

    Safety

  13. This is all very strange.   It is extremely rare for a DC or OC to request from management to take a year off, that just doesn't make sense.

I don't believe he was forced out either, he wouldn't just take a year off while being forced out, he'd want to coach elsewhere and there would be plenty of suitors.

My suspicions are that there were disagreements between the two and in the process Frazier requested a year off understanding that this was the end of his days as DC.

  14. Of course the cap matters.  These aren't fake numbers, the cap maneuvering is just a way to kick the can down the road, but at the end at some point there is a reckoning.

Also, this whole Lamar Jackson debate with some analysts who say "Just pay the man".   "Do it at whatever cost", these sort of proclamations and analysis is lazy.

Yes, I agree that you should do everything within reason to keep him or any other young franchise QB but it's not at "any cost".   Fully guaranteeing his contract means there is very little cap maneuvering - you have less flexibility to help the team out in the interim, not to mention Lamar has been very injury prone the past couple seasons and lets face it, Lamar without his running ability is a middling QB.

Where the Ravens went wrong was not signing Lamar up to a long-term deal after his third year, now they are paying the price of the Deshaun Watson fully guaranteed debacle.  My guess is that after the Hurts, Burrow and Herbert contracts which I would imagine will go back to not fully guaranteed contracts will bring the QB market back to where it was, probably with a little more guaranteed money pre Watson.

I bring up Lamar because I was listening to Brandt yesterday on NFL Sirius and he was expressing frustration with the Ravens for not getting the deal done.
