  1. Of course the cap matters.  These aren't fake numbers, the cap maneuvering is just a way to kick the can down the road, but at the end at some point there is a reckoning.

Also, this whole Lamar Jackson debate with some analysts who say "Just pay the man".   "Do it at whatever cost", these sort of proclamations and analysis is lazy.

Yes, I agree that you should do everything within reason to keep him or any other young franchise QB but it's not at "any cost".   Fully guaranteeing his contract means there is very little cap maneuvering - you have less flexibility to help the team out in the interim, not to mention Lamar has been very injury prone the past couple seasons and lets face it, Lamar without his running ability is a middling QB.

Where the Ravens went wrong was not signing Lamar up to a long-term deal after his third year, now they are paying the price of the Deshaun Watson fully guaranteed debacle.  My guess is that after the Hurts, Burrow and Herbert contracts which I would imagine will go back to not fully guaranteed contracts will bring the QB market back to where it was, probably with a little more guaranteed money pre Watson.

I bring up Lamar because I was listening to Brandt yesterday on NFL Sirius and he was expressing frustration with the Ravens for not getting the deal done.

  2. There are plenty enough good pieces on defense to do without Oliver, Edmunds, Poyer, Lawson and Jackson.

I’d love to have them but cap constraints and reprioritization have to be done.

Need to invest more valuable resources in FA and draft on O line and WR, and hopefully hit later round picks on the other spots.

120/6 would be Roquan money. I think that is too much.  120/7 comes in around $17m AAV. If that is well structured and moderate on guaranteed money I could get myself there.

Yes on a 7 year deal, with maybe around $60m of that guaranteed, that would work and would be a good deal for both sides.

  4. Ed Oliver is a good but not great player.  Buffalo has a lot of difficult decisions to make and honestly, if you could get a 2nd round draft choice for him they should make the trade.  We could use the draft capital and the money.

I’d rather roll with Settles, Phillips, DaQuan and some mid round pick to anchor the middle.

Balling out with 3 field goals. Don't deny we need more weapons though. Spring for Deandre Hopkins. I dont want to hear we dont have the cap space.

Yes, find a way to get Deandre Hopkins, use a couple premium draft picks to get O lineman, hope for a healthy Von Miller, a fully healed T. White, that Kair Elam can take a year two leap and sign Edmunds to a long-term deal.

Also, we really have to look into playing more aggressive coverage at the DB spot and that falls on Frazier.

In terms of the offense, I think we should somehow look to have a similar approach that the Eagles and 49ers have which is dependent on having a strong O-line and a commitment to the run game with lots of play action.     When I watch their offenses play, they seem to have a real purpose, there is a clear rhyme or reason.

One side note, Daquan Jones was very missed this game and for that matter so was Von Miller.

The DT practice squad elevation was predictable and makes a ton of sense. I expect Bryant to be active.

Kingsly Jonathon will be inactive IMO. Not sure why they called him up, unless the plan to completely turn the DEs loose and give them more free reign to rush at-will and disregard rush lanes/run fits.

Maybe they plan to do so and want fresh legs.

just trying to make sense of this.

Surprised by Brown, as I feel McKenzie/Beasley/shakir is a bit redundant and Smoke offers something else that none of those guys does….

Maybe that is calculated, and Dorsey doesn’t want to tempt Allen with that speed and unnecessarily pull his eyes and attention down field when he should be working the quick game.

    who knows.

I think they don’t anticipate nearly as many down the field attempts as last week.   Cincinnati most likely will be looking to take the down the field options and hope that Allen presses for them.

This is very good, succinct. Talking heads are rarely this clear.

Dorsey HAS to intervene with play adjusts, finally be a JoshWhisperer during play clock headset!!

I don’t think you want him to be so much in his head both figuratively and literally during game play.  All the prep and instruction should have been done during the week and then let Josh do his thing.

They were basically worshiping Allen the first 6 weeks of the season cause of how good he was playing. Now he’s been turning the ball over a bunch and they’re rightfully being critical of that. It’s called being unbiased.

What’s the Bills record since all these turnovers been happening?  How many points per game they been putting up?

Reality is that Allen isn't a god QB who can carry a team on his back - at least consistently. His inaccuracy and careless/reckless tendencies can't sustain winning particularly in the post-season. He needs talent/scheme built around him to maximize his athleticism and throwing ability (which on its face are elite). Beane's recent decisions regarding the OL and offensive skill positions have failed Allen.

I heard him say that too.  And that the pressure is all on the Bills.

Listen,  I don't care if Cincinnati's O-line was 100% healthy for this game.  This is a must-win for the Bills and I expect them to win.  The Championship window ain't going to stay open indefinitely.  The time is now.  It's a Super Bowl or bust season and we've known that from game 1.

The window will always be open while Josh Allen is here

I hear you.  Let's face it, compared to what Miami started on offense last week, Cinci will be way way better..   and the Bills barely got by 34-31.

    Both teams have pressure.

And the Bengals were way way outplayed by the Ravens with Tyler Huntley and their best WR out  yet they were fortunate to get that fumble.

because if the game was finished they would've won and would be hosting our Bills sunday. They have every right to be pissed. The league should've made it right by making this week a neutral venue as well or tried to fit the rest of that game in

After one full drive for each team you came to that conclusion????

This has to be a troll account.

bills have 3 losses.....they lost the turnover battle in all 3

That's not the point the OP is making, he isn't saying it doesn't matter, what he is saying is that it matters less when it happens to KC and the Bills.   Having a 6-3 record when you lose the turnover battle I would venture to guess may be tops in the league or very minimum top 2-3.  OP is speaking on a relative basis.

I made a very similar point in another thread, that the Bills can bring out their B and C game and still win close to 80-90% of the time.  The plays that Josh Allen makes helps make up for the turnovers and average play from the rest of the team that we sometimes see.

If he would have had an average amount of drops this year he would have been 1000 yard receiver with a few more TD's and no one would be talking about Gabe Davis having a bad year, and that is with the injury that caused him to miss some time and played hobbled for a couple games as well.

He just needs to not drop so many passes, he fixes that and he is a legitimate #2 WR.

I'm at about 65%. I think the bills are the better team overall, but we've watched them shoot themselves in the foot so many times this season. While I think the bills are fully capable of playing a mistake free game, it's hard to comprehend they will. Being at home is a big advantage (I think).

Yes, I think there is a 2 in 3 chance the Bills win.

In order for Bengals to win, a few things would need to happen.

    - Great defensive game plan, forces Josh to dither and not find down the field options causing a lot of 3 and outs

    - Turnovers that leads to at least 14+ points for the Bengals

    - Bills give up over 400 yards and multiple long TD drives

The Bengals have played more mistake-free football than the Bills by a wide margin, and if the game becomes a shootout the Bengals have two elite weapons (Chase, Boyd) compared to our one (Diggs).

Can’t hate on anyone on the outside who picks them in this game, there’s enough objective reasons to justify it. 🤷‍♂️

Sure, you can make a case for them to win but that is the prevailing thought.  The Bills are clearly the better team, almost all advanced stats, the record and the fact that we have Josh Allen and they don't dictate that we should win, hence the oddsmakers making this a 5.5 spread.

  16. The Bills are the better team, why?   Josh Allen.

Josh Allen's B game is better than most high end QB's A game, maybe not stat wise but in terms of converting critical plays.  He makes throws and extends drives on third down that other QB's simply can't do on a consistent basis.  It's crazy to hear some Bills fans criticize his play, it's nuts.

If the Bills play their A game they beat any team in the league, period!   If they play their normal run-of-the mill B game which they've played lots of B and C games its still good enough to beat 90% of the teams in the league.

What separates Josh from the other QB's in this league aside from his arm and ability to run the ball is his sheer will to put the game on his shoulders when its on the line and will the team to victory.

I think we'll win and my hopes are that the Bills begin kicking it into another drive from here on out.  They showed signs of it last game but between the unforced errors on the drops, fumble for TD, miscommunication on int's it led to an uncomfortably close victory.  Scrap out a few mistakes and the Bills win that game by 30.

Just this replay, around the 39 sec you see Brown break the route towards the sideline.

If John Brown would have ran straight ahead on that route, he would have ran past the DB, the ball would have been a little underthrown, Brown would have been in better position to slow down and time his jump for what would have been a contested catch.

Ravens can also get home with 4, Im not sure our D-line can do that consistently with their O-line banged up.

I don't think we can, it is a liability.  I was hoping that Oliver, Phillips and the other interior guys could make up the slack but so far that hasn't been the case.

Hopefully they can get some pressure but I think in order to generate more pressure the Bills will have to continue with their increased blitzes that we have been seeing over the past few weeks.   The blitzes can't be vanilla or Burrow will slice them.

I wonder if Cinci is going to stick with the 2 high shell after watching the sometimes success plays the Dolphins had with Cover-0 and Cover-1 blitzes?

I think they will. Much like the Bills they're a base nickel D. Even against our jumbo package with Bobby Hart.

I'd love to see us commit to a balanced rushing attack against their light box. The more we stick to the run, the better play action will work.

On D, we need to effect Burrow. With their depleted Online can we get consistent pressure with 4? Would love mix in Milano / Edmunds blitzes, Taron off the edge. Lots of simulated pressure.

But I hate it when we blitz and half of our players drop into soft zones with eyes on the QB and never look at the recievers. I'd like to see more zone matching coverage than 3 guys covering empty blades of grass with no receivers within 20 yards of them...

And I really hope we see a lot of Elam matched up against either Chase or Higgins. Let Elam cover!

The Dolphins had a few moments with Cover 0 and 1 but overall Josh abused them.   If it wasn't for the drops, he would have had 400 yards and 4 - 5 TD's.

Also, the Dolphins have better corners than the Cincinnati, I don't expect them to do that as well.  I suspect they'll rush 3-4 and 5 throughout most of the game and play the 2 high shell as you noted.

Josh should run the ball a good bit, 7 - 10 called runs.   Also, the fact that Josh was so effective pushing the ball down the field I think sets up the Bills really well on how teams will defend him, I do think they will attempt to guard the deeper stuff and I do believe that Josh will be passing the ball with more of the intermediate stuff.

In regards to getting pressure against Cincinnati, I don't see us rushing 4 and getting lots of pressure, I do think we will continue the recent trend of higher blitzes.

Now is the time for the Allen designed runs.  Would not mind seeing 5-7 of them, and also, hopefully Josh can find a way to pick up yards running on a scramble.  The Dolphins did a good job of shutting him down in this regard.

They did, the Dolphins were very effective in getting pressure with their edge rushers causing Allen to step into the pocket and when he tried to take off the tackles did a great job collapsing the running lane for Josh.   That's a blue print to limit Josh's running ability, but in order to do that the  edge rushers have to be able to force Josh to step up in the pocket.
