  1. Agreed.... first round talent at DL, OL should be there RD2
  2. What he says and what he does on draft day when the phone rings are two different things altogether. Did you predict the Spiller pick too?
  3. Seeing it on mock drafts post-combine and post-Auburn pro day. Let the Gabbert hype begin! Can't help but to think of the possibility of getting at least an extra 2nd rounder and an extra 3rd rounder if Gabbert comes off the board #1. Any team that seriously wants Newton has to trade up to get ahead of Cincy who very publicly needs a new QB. Teams 5-12 most likely to be the ones to move. I think Newton is the only one that would warrant the move to #3. One of the following players would be there at 5-12: Cam Jordan, Quinn, JJ Watt, Bowers....or even Fairley (I'm leaving out Von Miller (because I think he's Von Maybin...but don't want to debate that now). When you think about one of those players with the first rounder....combined with our probable 2 picks in 2, 3 and 4: we could wind up with 7 players in rounds 1-4. theres a LOT of ways we could draft in those 7. What do you think?
  4. Newton-like upside within a Chan system Great raw skills, leadership intangibles. I hope there is some form of pick-collecting trade down scenario and he is the outcome of our 2nd pick in the 2nd round.
  5. If Costanzo there in the 2nd? Ya gotta! I doubt that happens with the Giants at 19 and their history with BC.
  6. A Kaepernick gamble worth it in the 3rd round. Medium risk/Very high reward A Newton gamble with #3 overall....and it IS a gamble especially when a Fairley/Bowers/Dareus is passed over....is maximum risk/max reward. Newton is a big gamble. Too big for this franchise given the state its in.
  7. I would say that they both have the same boom/bust potential. I would rather spend a 2-4 to gamble than gamble with the 3rd pick overall.
  8. none of the spectacle none of the headaches lesser cost up front, lesser gamble, similar upside.
  9. If Chan is really "the man" at QB development and designing offenses around their upside: this is our guy, a poor mans Newton....unassuming, but with as high a ceiling in the NFL. Buf doesn't need a "Me First" guy like Cam, I would rather see a team-first guy with a chip on his shoulder to show the world he was round 1 material.... ==================================================================== 2010 seasonEntering the 2010 NCAA season, Kaepernick ranks #1 among active college football players in rushing touchdowns. He is second in Yards Per Carry (behind Wolf Pack teammate Vai Taua), Total Offense per Game, and Touchdowns Scored. He ranks #3 in Yards per Play and #4 in pass touchdowns and Total Number of Offensive Plays. Kaepernick was a counselor at the prestigious MPA event in Thibodaux, Louisiana, during the 2010 camp. He had an impressive showing, drawing praise from various NFL and ESPN personnel including former New York Giants QB Jesse Palmer who said of Kaepernick, "by far, the strongest arm in the camp".[4] It was also announced that Kaepernick, along with teammates Taua and Lippincott will have a display in the College Football Hall of Fame commemorating their being the first players in NCAA history to each break 1,000 yards rushing on the same team during the same season. [5] Kaepernick has been named to the watch list for six major college football awards: the Manning Award, the O'Brien Award, the Paul Hornung Award, the Maxwell Award, the Unitas Award, and the Walter Camp Award. On November 26, Kaepernick led his team to a 34-31 overtime victory against the previously undefeated Boise State Broncos, snapping a 24 game win streak that had dated back to the 2008 Poinsettia Bowl. This game was played on Nevada's senior night, the final home game for Kaepernick and fellow notable senior running back Vai Taua. Nevada Head Coach Chris Ault would later call this game the "most important win in program history." During this game, Kaepernick surpassed 1,000 rushing yards for this season, becoming the first player in NCAA history to have over 2,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing for 3 consecutive seasons. Along with Taua's 131 yards rushing in the game, the duo became the NCAA's all time leaders in rushing yards by teammates (8,285) passing the legendary SMU duo of Eric Dickerson and Craig James (8,193) known as the "Pony Express".".[6] On December 4 against Louisiana Tech University, Kaepernick joined Florida's Tim Tebow as the second quarterback in FBS history to throw for 20 touchdowns and run for 20 in the same season. Later that same evening, Auburn's Cam Newton joined Tebow and Kaepernick as the third. Kaepernick's three rushing touchdowns in that game also placed in him in a tie with former Nebraska QB and Heisman Trophy winner Eric Crouch for most rushing TD's in NCAA history by a quarterback with 59 in his career. Kaepernick currently stands as the only quarterback in the history of Division I college football to have passed for over 10,000 yards and rushed for over 4,000 yards in a collegiate career and also as the only QB to have passed for over 2,000 yards and rushed for over 1,000 yards in a single season three times in a career (consecutively).
  10. Sorry I meant our 3rd rounder....lol.....not #3 lol. I agree though with any QB at #3 overall is bad idea. Love team approach. Love D in rounds one and two. I do like this kid if he's there in the 3rd round.
  11. Marketability is off the charts for the guy. Its a big huge national spotlight on the city and the organization I see him as a bright lights/big city kind of guy (think LeBron in Cle vs. Mia) A ME guy where this city/franchise needs a guy that PROUDLY embraces the history and understands what simply must be done here: win. ME guys don't do that. They think of how lucky the team is to have them. A good coach and a whole bunch of Jets/Pats defenses to confuse you can humble you down but... Will you get humbled and a) come out of it like Vince Young/JaMarcus? or b) will you bear down and will yourself to be the best Guy that think they have already achieved scare me. ME players scare me. Hows this kid going to react when the coaches dont want/need him to run it on a play.....but he overrrides them and does anyway. Is he going to throw his sh-t in the stands? tweet to his followers that the coach is a dik? blow up the locker room? Will we have a "get me teh F out of Buffalo" situation after 2 years? Only to go to Jerry Jones (that c.ck muncher)after Romo's meh career is finally done there. or will he attain god status and bring the good times back? There are the pluses.... ridiculous raw skills on this guy this guy pulls games out late and dramatically...clearly does not like to lose Old BUFF could use some swagger and shine. Chan is a good pairing with this kid. Would be fuuuuuun to watch it work out.
  12. This is the best risk/rewrd QB gamble in the draft. I would take this kid with our 3rd. Especially if we tade down in the 1st.
  13. Let's be real here....you would take a bullet for that guy if he was the Bills coach.
  14. http://www.sbnation.com/hamsandwich/2011/2/24/2010022/cam-newton-has-got-his-nfl-combine-swagger-on-a-trillion Slap. "I'm just hoping that karma doesn't wreak havoc here, sending him to Buffalo, and ending all the fun before it ever gets started. Because God knows he'll be terrible if the Bills draft him."
  15. Colon or Clabo = win/win Colon coming off injury but both would be a huge upgrade.
  16. Interesting..... "One of the better right tackles in the league is a free agent and Jason La Confora of the NFL Network has reported the Falcons don’t plan on slapping the franchise tag on Clabo. Guards Harvey Dahl and Justin Blalock are also free agents. The Falcons should lock up the less expensive guys and look elsewhere for a new right tackle."
  17. How many times would you like to see the Bills fail at reaching for the wrong QB? The sure thing went out the window when Luck decided not to come out. Newton is not falling to 10 and Gabbert not falling to 18.....6 of the top 10 teams could use a new QB. If they become pro bowlers....fantastic. The team that drafts them will have gambled and won. We need rehab from all of our gambling and losing....you want us to go right back to the table. How am I wrong about Newton and Gabbert being overvalued? Once Luck was out of the picture, both guys went from mid to late 1st round prjections to top 10 Gabbert and Top 5 Newton. By the value chart alone....overvalued. Media is hyping Newton into a potential 1st pick of the draft. I honestly hope that happens because Fairley is worth it at #3. Trade down otherwise. This draft is deep in our other areas of need. My point was that a smart FO with as many needs as the Bills and a history of TERRIBLE QB draft picks may want to consider doing what their division rivals have been doing for a decade+: aquire draft picks and fill holes. Its insane that a playoff team has 2 first rounders, somehow they do it. I agree on the franchise QB being a position of need but I wouldn't reach for a Newton. Its definitely a sexy pick from a marketing standpoint but a lot of questions there. Newton may be running for his life and taking a lot of hits with our OL where it is. I would much rather have 5 or 6 picks in the first 3 rounds. I would rather have some exciting new players on D. I would rather have a pass rush....and a run defense. ALL great SB teams have great defenses as well. I can live with Fitz and plug in help on both sides of the ball. Build a D and take a look at the QB situation next year.
  18. We need Ditka running Minnesotas war room....."Trade our entire draft to Buffalo for Newton......I'm goin fishing" http://blogs.suntimes.com/sportsprose/2010/03/mike_ditka_stands_by_ricky_wil.html
  19. Neither of these guys are franchise QB's (both are projects) and their stock is inflated becase Luck is out of the picture. With more than a few holes to fill, my point is let someone else take a chance on these guys and pay us to do it, we can fill holes with quality talent. Both QB's are boom/bust gambles. If you want a project QB with upside, grab Kaepernick in 3.
  20. Yeah, good point there....my bad....BUT....The phone is going to be ringing for the #3 pick. There are 2 "elites" at these 3 positions: QB's, CB's, WR's.... Not a lot of GM's out there can keep a poker face if they see a scenario unfold where both of their targets are gone. Buff should keep throwing names out there in the press: Newton Dareus, Peterson....Green.... then absolutely punish the team that wants to be at 3.
  21. Best thing for us is if both Gabbert and Newton destroy it at the combine. The non-stop hype or (Kipe) machine will then take over. We need to ride that wave. media-fueled run on two over-valued QB's is what we want!!! Not sure who would lunge but....if say SF and Tennessee both want Gabbert...or Minny wants Newton BAAAAAD...both are going to have to step over Cincy and Arizona as either one may grab one of the 2 QB's should they land in their lap. Dallas could jump is Peterson is a FREAKMONSTER at the combine as well. The only sure spot to lock it in is #3. START RELENTLESS "NEWTON TO THE BILLS HYPE" IN THE PRESS.....THEN TRADE THE PICK!!!!!! If it's SF...Dareus, Miller or Quinn would be there at 7. Similar case for Titans (Gabbert) at 8. even if its Minnesota, they will have to pay dearly, we probably land Cam Jordan at 12 no matter what, our option would be to get back into late 1 and/or load up the boat for rounds 2-3. This draft is loaded with DT/DE talent. Some great OL value late 1 and early 2. Our TE is in there somewhere as is LB help...maybe even a Kaepernick/Ponder/Locker pick. MORE SHOTS ON GOAL. We are not draft snipers, we need a buck shot. Lets be like the Pats this time....we're still rebuilding. I am willing to risk a Dareus lock for paydirt from a desperate team. BUUUUUUUUUUUT it's the Bills.....so I will prepare for the "Buddy is a genius...you just don't understand" threads after Mark Ingram is the newest Bill at #3. something tells me this year we do the right thing.
