GMEN have to be up there
Tuck-Canty-Joseph-JPP
(Osi)

Consider this if you will:
Ralphy knows his time on earth is always getting shorter. Ralphy has an interest in protecting/maximizing the value of the franchise for his family to sell it. As we know all too well, until today, he has been maxing the profitability of the franchise.
All this talk about JK's group and Mr. Pegula and various other clues (Thurman/Chad Kelly's posts/tweets) leads many of us to believe that we have a buyer "in hand" but no details set.
Ralphy knows the buyer is hot to have them stay and he knows time is limited. So he opens up the floodgates and hands the GM the checkbook. Go get the talent and get this team poised to go on a long run of playoff contention ....and the stadium deal will likely follow.
What does that do to the price of the franchise when you are becoming one of the premier teams in the league and you have a fancy stadium planned that overlooks Niagara Falls???
Ralphy is running up the price!!! You motorboatin sonafabitch! We know its not about winning for him. I sincerely believe this Mario acquisition means Ralph may be at the last stages of getting ready.
In any event..I may be way off...but..I am grateful for today!

Victor Cruz didn't catch a pass that year
Cruz went down in the preseason for the entire year
Nicks was out for 3 games
MM was the #1 receiver for 3 games/#2 for the rest.
Great 1/2 outside option with him and stevie....then Nelson in the slot.
This would be amazing....Hope hes not looking for #1 WR $$$

We don't need to acquire FA RB's....that's what first rd draft picks are for!
-
It's a shame that it's a complete rarity/non-event
In this case, we solve a tremendous need issue without blowing out our cap(Mario). Yes we thin out a skill position but we were below abysmal at rushing the QB.....now we may have Peyton 2 x a year with the fins to go with Brady. As hard as it is would be to say goodbye to Freddy, we're a more complete team as a result of this deal (that will never happen).
With the would-be Fred $ going to Osi, we would essentially have the ability to add another mid-high range FA and then let BPA value talent fall to us in the draft.
-
Couple more points
This move will net you more cap room than keeping Freddy and signing a FA for the DE position
I think we could late rd. draft/acquire RB depth behind CJ with relative ease.
YES, we lose a lot on the RB side, and take a calculated gamble, but we gain every bit of it on the other side of the ball (and more).
Would kill to see KW/Dareus crush pockets with an OSI coming off the edge.
More value for your dollar with Osi - given our glaring areas of need.
-
Fred Jackson for Osi - straight up. Would you do it?
For the GMEN:
They want more production out of the RB's - Freddy lets them focus on OL upgrades - he's proven that he can run behind the worst OL's
They can unload Jacobs contract - they do not want to pay him.
They recoup major value for the loss of OSI
They do not have to re-sign Osi and pay him starter $ to be a pass rush specialist.
Freddy is a better fit for a "win now" team - most Bills fans would be happy for him if he landed there.
GMEN have the $ to dish for the RB position - not DE
Freddy/Ahmad/Nicks/Cruz/Eli/TE in the 1st Rd - uhhhh wow.
For the Bills:
Have to give OSI a new contract to start.
Instantaneous upgrade to the pass rush - problem solved for 3-5 years.
Allows Bills to draft and develop younger DE talent behind him
Comes from a culture of winning. The young/talented bills D could use a veteran leadership figure.
A player like that, who commands attention from the OC's, gives the rest of the D a chance to make plays!
Alleviates the need to break the bank for Mario - Osi not cheap to resign but no way he gets $ on par with Mario.
Bills can reconsider their draft/free agency signings (I dream for an RG3 move here)
CJ gets to be the man (fingers crossed)
We have $ to invest in DE way more than RB
This never happens in the NFL but I this would be a win/win as far as I can see. Some great football minds on this board, would love to hear some thoughts.
Happy Friday!!

I see most of the Giants games here in NYC, Osi is a very disruptive force in the pass rush. It goes way beyond sacks. He is not on the downside of his career he has 5 years at an elite level left. The only thing you can knock him for is that he's a one way player....not good against the run. The team that trades for him has to sign him as he becomes a FA after next season. The team that gets him, I believe, needs to be close to a championship enough to 1) trade the picks and 2)pay the increas he's going to be looking for. He's not a respected leader either, something the bills could use from a 2x champ and top player. I just don't think he's a fit for the Bills...I would rather go all the way for Mario.
Dave Tollefson is the DE on the Giants that the Bills should be targeting for DE. No joke, the guy is solid, smart productive and would come cheap.

Sounds good, I remember seeing him make some plays this year so he's worth a shot.
not sure if you're serious or not but....
Have watched this guy the last 4 years including their SB run...guy always plays hard....have always thought he was good enough to start. 5 sacks this year as a backup and a guy making around a mil a year. Has been around winners and winning too.
Thats a ton of intangibles and upside for the price of a backup.
-
Dave Tollefson on the Giants could be someone to target
He is an unrestricted FA after this season. Living in Giants country here, I have watched a lot of their games....this guy could probably start on most any other team. Because he's been behind 1-3 elite DE's, he has been relegated to back up and shuffling roles. He talkes whatever time he gets and makes the most of it, plays hard, can play the run and rush the passer...always seems to be in the mix. He would be a very cost-effective 2nd DE pickup to bring additional depth with what I hope to be a premier FA DE signing (Avril/Mario/Mathis).
IMHO - good depth/team guy that has upside for more.....and CHEAP!!!!!

Stevie Johnson is more of a "Team Player" than 90% of the Bills.
He works his ass off in practice every single day, he works his ass off in the games, he comes prepared and knows his assignment, he plays hurt, he performs in games, he makes big plays, he scores touchdowns, he keeps the locker room loose and to a man his teammates love him from all indications, and he loves and promotes Buffalo and the Buffalo Bills. You don't get much more of a team player than that. Sorry. Despite his three penalties after 17 touchdowns.
THIS
Stevie has a little swagger factor to boot! The Bills org is well under the league average in that!

In the early season they lost:
Terell Thomas - starting CB - Aaron ross is a BIG step down and got picked on all season.
Prince Amukamara - 1st rd draft choice - no camp, misses first half of rookie year....then thrown into fire.
Jonathan Goff - best LB and Def play caller - replaced with rookie
Osi - had him for only 9 games
Michael Boley - missed a bunch of games
Their LB situation got so bad, they had rookies calling the plays and were calling up old LB's that were out of football - to start.
Perry should get a pass on this season.
-
The Colts organization had a very similar scenario a while back - and they traded the pick/player.
Then watched the HOF career of John Elway and wondered "what if?" for 15 years.
I would bet they do not do it again.
-
Living in the NYC area, I have watched Osi for years...he has consistently been a big play pass rushing machine.
He would provide an outside pass rush upgrade to any team...immediately. Also familiar with winning in the post season.
Just turning 30, he has 3-5 years left at an top/elite level...possible more as a "specialist" like Jason Taylor.
JPP owns one end now and Tuck the other...expensive luxury to pay Osi top $.
I believe he's signed through 2012 season under a contract he's been very publicly unhappy with. Either G-Men pay him huge $ or recoup whatever value they can this offseason. Could be a trade for 1 year and the option to re-sign him, making the cost relatively low (Not sure how this works but guessing: 3rd rounder?)
something else to explore/discuss in another long offseason- I like this one more than Mathis.
-
The 4th Rd. pick from Balt is starting to look more and more like a bottom of the round pick.....almost a 5th. For 2-3 years of solid production, another SB ring in the locker room, tons of playoff experience with a top 5 all-time QB, and a pretty damn good receiver. I would.
-
my god....
someone should go into the archives and pull up all of the "Son of Bum" posts from the late 90's-2000. He's home in Texas and doesn't need those here that begged to have his ass run out of town.
I get why his name was used....but really?
-
moronic? really? i'll defer to the numbers that mattered:
12 first downs (13 if Johnson's catch is ruled a catch) versus 25.
a season-worst 6 punts (still a season-worst 5 punts if Johnson's catch is ruled a catch)
season-low one TD on offense (still a season-low two if Johnson's catch is ruled a catch and he somehow pops up and runs into the end zone, because the officials missed the fact that he was touched down).
season-low 199 yards passing for Fitzpatrick, still would've been a season-low 202 yards if Johnson's catch was ruled a catch.
no touchdowns passing, season low.
season-low two trips into the red zone.
season-low 4-for-14 in third-down conversations, 5-14 would've matched a season-low if Johnson's catch was ruled a catch.
season-low three drives into opponents' territory. would've still been a season-low if Johnson's catch was ruled a catch.
season-worst 171 yards rushing allowed.
defense allowed 25 first downs to a team that managed 49 in its first three games combined.
458 yards allowed, second-worst total of the season.
allowed five third-down conversions to a team that converted 9 of its previous 38.
allowed seven drives into Bills territory, one fewer than season-high of eight against New England.
Andy Dalton is not Tom Brady.
jw being moronic yet again.
Yet, despite all of the bad stats, we were still driving to go up 2 scores....that is, until the "no catch" catch.

No need to show the bad side of "the product"
Everything is big plays, marquis matchups, big hits....glitz, glamour beer wings T&A and fun!

It's MONDAY people! Sunday's outcome was 100% effected by bad officiating...and it feels like sh-t.
These boards are a place to collectively "get over it" and talk it through.
The "move on" gang needs to give the rest of us some time...

Trade down in the first....get the extra 2nd + 3rd
Offer the late 1 for Wallace.
Build out the rest of this team with next 6 picks in 2/3/4
Depth the rest of the way
Never happen but fun to consider....
