  1. Saying those are the 2 biggest needs is pretty easy to argue. This team had a very high need for NT, OLB, DE, run defense, and playmakers on offense. Face it, this team had so many desperate needs, it is near impossible to pinpoint which needs are the biggest. We pretty much needed a new roster. So saying nix sucks because of two positions is crazy. Nix would be just as bad now if he got a QB and T in the first two rounds and got no NT and left the run D to suck things up like last year, and had no playmakers on offense. No matter what, there were going to be big needs that were going to be missed.

Easly looked good until he went down in camp.... but the bills did bring in TO while lee had his big contract. WR doesn't seem that important as other positions, especially with nelson playing well and parish showing some life. And our TE nelson should help as a reciever as well, when he returns. If nelson develops more, and easly gets better, the WR group should be fine for the future.

We are going to need a new QB.

Come on man: OL was the top need.....its a stretch to even have called it a #2 need.

  2. According to most all Bills fans the season is a total loss might just as well throw in the towel , we suck , we'll never do anything , the QB sucks , the coach sucks , the defense sucks , the sky is falling & tomorrow is the end of the world !!!!!!!

Not fair to get on the fans for being negative....the last 10+ give them every reason. The coach, the FO and the players have everything to prove. If they start to show theyre on the rise, there are NO better fans that will rally around them.

But to get force fed a QB we don't like, a coach nobody wanted, a draft without an OT in the first 4 rounds, and nothing remotely splashy and aggressive in the FA market....and not have the right to be skepical about it, AFTER a putrid sh-tty disasterous offensive show???

That's asking way too much. There are fans here that will accept everything and paint it up as greatness, then there are those that are reality based.

  3. Football games are decided by number of yards?

I thought they were decided by number of points.

    http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?tabSeq=2&statisticCategory=SCORING&conference=ALL&role=TM&season=2010&seasonType=REG

If we hadn't given up the safety, the Dolphins (with all those yards) would be tied for 23rd in the league -- just above the Bills.

Falcons, Vikings, Jets, 9'ers and Cowboys scored less than Bills Week 1.

I assume they should all give up and admit they totally suck based on 1 game?

Please -- a little sense of perspective.

Falcons, Vikes, Niners....all played road games. Falcons played a perennial playoff team and SB champ 09, Vikes played SB champ 10. I'll give you the Niners.

Jets played arguably the best D in the league with the best middle linebacker ever....playing out of his head no less.

We played the Dolphins at home....their D is nothing special. We were putrid on offense, period. It's time to be realistic instead of pointing and actually believing "see...look at them....were not the worst!"

  4. As much as I like Nix - and I do - this is the same line we've been fed for 10 years now. Every time a new GM/coach comes in we get the same, "give us some time and we'll fix this mess" yet low and behold, here we are 10 years later and the mess has yet to be fixed? At some point they'll get it right and somebody will turn the team around. Will it be Nix? I hope to hell it is but just because somebody is a straight shooter (which I admire a lot) doesn't mean he's definitely going to be the one to turn this around.

That being said nobody is giving them 8 years to do it - they have to show steady progress year after year and the most I see them getting is 4 years to make the playoffs. In today's NFL that's an eternity with the quick turnarounds we see each year.

    Well Said

  5. Understood....but you saw last season and I did as well. An organization committed to winning, makes sure they get their guys.

Our FO should have had top FA's targeted so that the second they became available, we made sure NOBODY else had a shot.

And there were blue chippers all over the damn board....we go Tackle in 5.

insane....now we cant run the ball and we cant protect QB.....surprisingly we cant move the ball.

  6. His rationale for not improving the O-Line in the off season is beyond weak. Blue chippers all over the boards Rd. 1 and 2. Uncapped year so the Free Agency market was very available as well.

If they are going to be this slow and pragmatic that the two options I mentioned didn't work for them, are we really going in the right direction??? I mean, OT wasn't just a casual NEED....it was 100% a MUST Everyone agreed.

and we got Cornell Green and a 5th Rounder.

So let me be the first to call Bulls-t on Buddy for the O-Line argument.

    http://walterfootball.com/freeagents2010OT.php

Cornell was the 31st ranked of the FA's.

  7. It's pretty awesome that in Buffalo, all you have to do is show flashes of competence and the fans instantly worship you.

Yeah and if youre a proven veteran looking for fair value in a FA deal or better yet a contract extension, youre a nervy no good washed up money grubbibng scumbag......let the rest of the leagure deal with ya!

  8. I'm sorry brotha....but its time to start saying it. Coming to this point the last time (early-mid 80's) got us Bruce and Jimbo and all the love that was the 90's.

Gotta hit rock bottom before moving up. To keep the rose colored glasses on with this product is doing all of Bills country a disservice.

We're the Lions, looking at a low single digit win season. Everyone goes through them: Win committed organizations move straight up off the bottom.

Again, to look at the list of those successfully rebuilt in the last decade+ of our ineptitude is very depressing because the Jets oare on it TWICE!!!!!!!

  9. McNabb looked like crap last night ... as did about 25 other QBs and offenses. I'm not saying the Bills just had a bad game, and they'll probably go 12-4. And I agree that Trent is probably toast. But I watched other games, and other games' highlights ... Manning and Brady were about the only QBs who made their offenses look good yesterday.

This is all you do on this board is explain away this franchises ineptitude by saying: "hey look at those guys, we'ere bad, but theyre bad too". Not, in my opinion, a winning mentality. It's that mentality that allows you to accept this sh*t product and actually find reasons to get excited about it.

The originator of this thread is dead-on. I have personally posted in favor of Vick, in favor of McNabb....even in favor of Hasselbck! Something to get this offense rebuilt and in the hands of the new future QB. The replies: too old, too slow, not enough time left blah blah blah. Then I cannot even count how many people posted in favor of Brohm! It's insane. Those 3 QB's have all gone deep into the playoffs and 2/3 have made SB appearances. To have that influence running your offense albeit at 85-100% of their peak capabilities and mentoring your young QBs is pretty much priceless. This board finds reasons to pass these opportunities off as a waste.

The Bills QB puts forth one of the most pathetic performances ever.....yet this board can STILL find a way to say...."nah dont want that guy".

Over and over again, I see critiques of what other teams paid for a guy and what a guy would want to play in Buffalo....and if he wants more than what we think hes worth....hell with him, he sucks! F that guy for not wanting to come here.....F ESPN....F the NFL network....F Cowher....>Shanahan not that good....how dare the press say were a bad team.

Guess what...were the worst franchise in the NFL....the Lions have moved on from their Matt Millen disaster and are in a positive rebuild. We are the new Lions. When doing your analysis and posting here, maybe we should all start from that point. Then adding McNabb to our pathetic offense is a YES!!! PLEASE! because that is the reality of the situation.

Stop being delusional....this is not what a positive rebuild looks like. This is not a win-committed organization. This is pacification and profits until they can figure out the plan because the Canadian expansion/Toronto move is a FAIL. This is the NFL version of Major League.

  10. He didn't declare them to be a "resounding success". He pointed out another organization that at least sees it's weaknesses and tries to do something about them. That's the difference! At least they try! That's a hell of alot more than one can say about the front office at OBD!

Exactly. They decided to stop the unsuccessful way they had been doing things and seriously rebuild. I don't want to look at the list of teams to successfully do so in this last decade+ because a couple may appear 2x (Jets).

  11. Yet another team that was pathetic and suffering from owner-intervention(Skins) rebuild themselves back into being competitive. What did they do????

-Got a real coach (Not some low $$$ bum off the scrap heap) - Statement to the fans.

-Got a real QB (NOT one of our guys deserves to share the same position with McNabb)

-Drafted O-Linemen with their high picks. (Drafting spiller was the same as the T.O. move: selling tickets)

-They have a 2nd legitimate threat to their #1 receiver to take the dbl coverage off. (Lee deserves much better)

-We had EVERY SINGLE opportunity to do the same (including Orakpo). I'm still in shock that the OL wasn't addressed this off season. (5th round draft picks and Cornell f-cking Green?????)

So...I predict that you can add the Skins to the list of teams now on the right track. McNabb under center makes it immediately very interesting. This organization behaves as if it's in a bubble and set apart from the league. Everyone has surpassed us. Pathetic.

  12. Oh well, all the people deluded into thinking this was not a complete building year will quit their pipe dreaming earlier than usual, then. Can't really see that as a bad thing. All I wanna know is, are there any 1st round O-Linemen and Tight Ends coming up next year?

This years draft was FULL of O-Linemen. We addressed the position in Rd 1 that needed the least amount of addressing. Just sayin....

  13. Wow...just playing devil's advocate

A starting QB that you wanted to run out of town last year.

A suspect OL w/ probably the worst Tackle combo in the league.

A HC that wasn't on anyones short or long lists (until he got the job of course)

A defense that just lost it's best pass rusher, should be good, can be great....nobody knows yet.

A division that includes a 3 SB winning coach/qb and a pretty good team that seems to make the playoffs every year, A team that went to last years AFC championship and did nothing but add value in the off season (many choose them for the SB) and the fins who's anybody's guess.

A franchise that hasn't made the playoffs since Flutie Flakes were all the rage.

A history of horrendous drafting in the last decade

And you expect them do fawn all over this team and pick them anything better than 3 in our division?

I love the optimism here, great fans for sure. Don't worry what the writers say, they will hop on the wagon if were any good in the first 3-4 weeks. It's up to the team now.

  14. ESPN=ABC=Disney

Just look at the intro to MNF.....they took a great sports tradition.....overproduced and celebrified it out to the max. It's unwatchable....the fukng helmets traveling into space????? WTF????

One defining moment: Emmitt Smith a guest in the MNF booth plugging his Dancing With The Stars appearance.

Turn off the TV...it's a sesspool

  15. Only fools see gold when they are looking at a pile of S$%& ! The Bills are a long way off from being a playoff team. They are a ways off from being 8-8 as well. Actually they most likely took a step backwards this off-season. Switching Coaching personnel, team philosophy, and to a 3-4 defense will be challenging. When your team philospophy is to build through the

draft you better hit on most of your picks! Although early to evaluate it's easy to see that the Bills only drafted one immediate impact player in this draft...and that was at a position that was getting adequate (not great) production. Although, C.J. Spiller is a potentially great player at RB...So was O.J. Simpson (even though most people don't talk about him much...due to his post-nfl circumstances) and Barry Sanders for the Detroit Lions. Because of a lack of quality and depth on both of those teams they would get great production out of the running game, but offer little more! The "true" impact position would have been at QB and secondarily Offensive Left Tackle. The Bills didn't fill those voids adequately!

Getting some guy Wang Chung or whomever...lol...and Levi Brown in the 7th round! Should we be happy with that??? How many 7th rounders end up being eventual starters in the NFL??? It's about 2% !!!!!!!!!!!!!! 7th round QB's is even less !

Do I draft a player at one of my biggest positions of need in the 7th round?? Well maybe if you sit in a circle, sing a little

kum bah yah and watch Alice in Wonderland each morning and talk about what a wonderful world it is in the Bills circle

of football !!!! But, honestly the past 10 years has been drudgery! and the Bills need to realize that "true" Buffalo Bills

fans are not going to sit on their hands, smile and say that the Bills are a good team, or on the right road to becoming a

good team. Even though the Bills have been on the wrong road for over a decade don't think that Buffalo fans don't fill up their gas tanks when they need to. First of all...that has to be one of the most ridiculous analogies that I have hear in a long time. It's just doesn't make sense as if your car can't run without gasoline (if it's not battery operated etc..) Meanwhile, the Bills gas tank has been running close to empty for many years. They bring in T.O. last year to keep the fans coming! This year they haven't added anything of excitement other than Spiller, and he's just a rookie and won't initially help ticket sales much. Anyone that thinks this organization is evolving into a winner isn't an educated fan. I also

would love to see the Bills organization try to fix the problems, but structurally this team is inferior and until they make some changes with the people on top this organization will languish. The first step that I would take if I was the Bills CEO would be to release Tom Modrak of all his duties. His involvement in the draft has been dismal at best over the past decade. I would also add competent people to my scouting teams as it's evident that the Bills are lacking in that capacity. The laundry list of changes I would make would be extensive. I'm not going to keep my voice quiet just because somebody thinks a lot of Bills fans whine or complain. We have earned that right as a Bills fan and if you've been a Bills fan for the past 10 years and can look at this team with rosy glasses...more power to you! But, me, in the image of Chuck Dickerson the coach...I'm going to call'em as I see them..and the Bills get a Smelly Jockstrap for this off-season's free agency and the draft! Even though it's early I am predicting that the Bills will be 5-11 and that may be gracious considering that most teams that switch from the 4-3 to the 3-4 defense only win 2-4 games the initial year of the switch.

    Who Loves ya Baby? :P

BRAVO! It doesn't mean you are less of a fan for speaking to the blatantly obvious. Thanks for your post. Agree 100%

  16. Our 2 biggest needs going into the draft: LT and QB

We addressed neither until rd. 5!

How can ANYBODY say the rebuild is off to a great start with major questions at those two positions?

Look at what the Rams did for cryin out loud....they have a defensive minded coach who must have had to contain himself not to take one of the two blue chip DT's.......he still did the right thing and went QB/LT.

We were in position to get both 1+2 and still get a damn good NT in 3...quality and depth beyond that.

I cannot believe how many satisfied kool aid drinkers there are the day after the draft ended and were heralding a 5th rounder and a 7th rounder as answers to our top 2 needs.

  17. Sorry all of our picks are awesome and we have really turned the corner as a franchise. No dissention allowed here. Spiller was a need. FO is awesome. The FA pool sucked. All draft day trades from other teams sucked. Levi and Brohm are the answers. THe Pats are shaking at having to play us twice. The best OT's and QB's are found after rd. 5 and if you really like a player ....you reach and get them one rd ahead of their true value.

  18. everything we do looks and feels like its at a "J.V." level to the rest of the league. I would love to be a glass half full guy at this point but I would have to seriously delude myself into thinking that this offseason was a home run...let alone BARELY a step in the right direction.

So as I am certain, the faithful watchdogs that rationalize every move the Bills make/do not make (while killing every other team for taking more direct steps to better their teams).....will flame me for this post, it is what it is. THere's not too many people that cover this league, that work in the league, are fans of other teams or just casual observers of the NFL...that look at the Buffalo Bills franchise and get excited or inspired. We field a team, thats what we do. You can watch it in the behavior of those who cover the league on TV, they can't say it but they are thinking it: we're a joke. They only talk about us because the have to and do not wase an extra second doing so. Our moves are always so questionable and off-key. As if we are looking at a different set of circumstances for ourselves that nobody else sees. If it had amounted to ANY success in a decade, then we could say there's real insight and knowledge there. But it never does.

I love the fans here, we truly love this team. Up there with the cheese heads as the top tier. The downside of that is that it blinds many of us. We take everything we do or do not do and act like theres a secret set of motives that are so genius, so we should wait as the best is coming. Jerry Jones once praised Chan Gailey! Hey that 2nd round rech for 3rd round talent was brilliant, youll see. We DID need a RB with the #9 pick BECAUSE we ARE keeping Lynch. A 5th round OT IS something to build a line around for the future. Dont even get me started on the Brohm worship that goes on here...a practice squad castoff is now the great white hope! for this franchise enough to pass on Jimmy Claussen in the 2nd round. Faneca will go to a team that makes moves and takes chances and we will say how old and done he is on this board.

I would bet Buddy and Chan got a full dose of why the chin and shanny never wanted to get near this franchise....the old man prob still pulls the strings on draft day. Even so, we're in the process of getting cheated out of a real competitive NFL franchise for another year but will take the lumps when the financial support of the bad product declines. I wish it were different but we do not behave on par with the rest of the league....and this offseason has been quite painful. Flame away guys. Go Bills.
