  1. Monte got his butt handed to him in the college game. He even had top-flight talent at USC and he couldn't stop the spread up-tempo attack Do not want
  2. FYI: Marrone worked under Paul Hackett w/ the Jets, and Paul's son Nathaniel was Marrone's OC @ SU. So I'd imagine he would come along
  3. Hmmm... I just did a bit of research into the Bills and running the ball yesterday and today On 1st and 10 Bills ran the ball 53.3%, and passed 46.7% Btw on 3rd and 1 Bills only ran 68% of the time, successful 77% Bills passed 32% of the time, successful 67% EDIT: More here... http://yardsperpass.com/?p=227 http://yardsperpass.com/?p=225
  4. I wouldn't say it is a huge thing... but knowing that players from certain programs at certain positions have trouble in the NFL is something that could be used to break ties in my opinion. I don't think it is totally useless information
  5. You have legitimate questions... the only thing I can say to them is that I don't think we are getting the whole truth on the matter from 1 Bills Dr
  6. I think the "gets winded" thing is an excuse Chan uses. I do not believe it is true
  7. it's scary that even still... there is a way to make the playoffs that isn't super far-fetched
  8. The pass pro deficiencies are the only logical reason I can come up with about why he isn't on the field more. Everyone knows that fatigue is a bunch of BS and this seems to be the only thing that makes sense to me
  9. Yeah there was something wrong... not sure who messed up, but CJ should have at least hit someone. I think CJ is an amazing back... and this is the only logical thing I can think of about why he isn't on the field more
  10. Heard that as well... I don't think it is for a lack of effort. It's just that some people are better at some thing than others. I think Freddie is fantastic at picking up the blitz. But he isn't even close to CJ in game-breaking ability. Gotta take the good and bad
  11. I agree with the cutting aspect of it. I was watching Woodhead last night and I thought he did an excellent job picking guys up (he cut a couple guys) and he's tiny
  12. Yeah I think we will see a lot of blitzing from the seahawks.... not to mention their fast DE's just sprinting around the edge
  13. Me too.... even though I thought Wanny's game plan was pretty good on Sunday. I saw a slot DB blitz for what seems like the 1st time all year
  14. hmmm... I like Ron Brooks, I'd rather see a guy running with a receiver than a guy that is constantly just getting beat
  15. Here's my post on CJ and Fred and their pass blocking http://yardsperpass.com/?p=207
  16. Yesterday I came up with an opinion that the reason why CJ gets taken out so much is his pass protection limitations. Many people disagreed with me, so I took 4 plays from the 1st quarter of the Rams game with CJ and Fred facing similar blitz pickup assignments. I think it is clear that there is a distinct difference in the pass protection abilities of the 2 RB's. Again this is only 4 plays, again I do not know the exact pass protection schemes... but it is something that I think we should take into consideration when trying to figure out why CJ isn't in the game more. We all know he isn't tired. I will be curious to see how the Bills use Spiller for the final 3 games, will they use him in pass protection or will we see more Choice in the backfield. My entire breakdown is linked below. http://yardsperpass.com/?p=207 Comments / Thoughts welcomed -Jon
  17. that's fine we can agree to disagree... I'm always open to discussion
  18. Oh man, I disagree strongly... Fred in my opinion one of the best RB's in the NFL in pass pro. CJ on the other hand, makes mistakes and when he does pick up the correct guy he is often time overpowered and gets pushed back really easily. I'll see if I can do some examples later today or tomorrow w/ video from the game Sunday Exactly... we all know it's not fatigue, but Chan isn't going to throw his best offensive weapon under the bus either
  19. Whether or not it is smart or not to keep him on the bench. CJ Spiller is really bad in pass protection. Like seriously bad. Teams are starting to blitz more when CJ is in there in obvious passing situations, so not only does this prevent him from running a pattern b/c he has to stay in and block, but it also gets a blitzer matched up on a sub-par blocker. Teams do this a lot against the Saints as well... but they have Brees who can make plays better than Fitz can. It was a bigger problem than usual on Sunday b/c of all backups on the OL going against a good Rams DL. If you get a chance watch what happens when CJ has to stay in and block... it's not pretty. CJ definitely needs the ball more... but this is my reasoning on why he is out of the game so much. -Jon
  20. Others might not give a crap.... but I find it fascinating that Chan recruited both Calvin Johnson and Demaryius Thomas to Georgia Tech while he was coaching there. You could make an argument that those are the top 2 talented WR's in the NFL right now
  21. Yeah there are a few things I could do to make them super cool.... I'd love to diagram the defense and the coverage that they are playing, but honestly that kinda stuff really takes up a lot more time because you have to re-watch so many different things. If I do it again, I'll try and tag them for play action though, that would be pretty easy Thanks for the comments, glad people enjoyed looking at them. There are quite a few plays the Bills run all the time. -Jon
  22. Nobody has mentioned the fact that Mario has been very very good against the run as well
  23. thanks man... I thought it was a pretty interesting thing to do. Just from remembering past games and looking at all of these plays, you can definitely see some patterns start to emerge -Jon
  24. I have no idea if anyone will find this stuff interesting or not. But I have diagrammed all 17 pass plays the Bills threw on Sunday. http://yardsperpass.com/?p=186 One thing I want to say is that I do not know if there are options built into the routes or even what plays are called, this is just what the receivers ran. Little factoid for you... of those 17 passes, 6 of them were basically screen passes. Comments/thoughts always welcomed. -Jon
