  1. I looked at every play on all-22 and took notes. Ughhhh I copied and pasted my table in here and it looked good, but then I submitted the post and the formatting went away. You can see it here as well http://yardsperpass.com/?p=127 -Jon yardsperpass.com @yardsperpass
  2. I personally think that the Bills OL is one of the best in the league… No sacks allowed (the only sack was when Fitz dropped the ball himself last week) and the fact that the Bills are the #3 rushing team in the league is another feather in their cap. Well today I came up with another gold star for the OL. Only 5 penalties total called on the entire OL (Levitre: 2 holds 1 false start, Glenn 1 hold, 1 false start). So 3 of the 5 are perfect on the year. Pretty impressive if you ask me. -Jon @yardsperpass www.yardsperpass.com
  3. I know it's a bit late... but I enjoyed this so much I still wanted to post about it. On the last play of the 3rd quarter... the Chiefs tried to block Kyle Williams w/ the fullback. It didn't work too well. http://yardsperpass.com/?p=114 BTW, they also trapped him several times using the same play that the 49ers used against the Lions so successfully. Don't be surprised if we start seeing more of that. -Jon @yardsperpass yardsperpass.com
  4. Yeah they were missing 2 big studs last week against Atlanta... Ryan had a nice clean pocket most of the day
  5. Hey everyone, I watched the Chiefs v. Falcons game a couple times and took notes on what I saw. I also then made some observations on how it will impact thsi sunday's game. Here are the cliff notes Only 2 players on offense scare me, Charles who looks like his old self again and Bowe. However I wasn't really scared of the Jets offense last week either. The Chiefs run defense looked very solid, but Matt Ryan was on fire throwing the football and Julio Jones was a beast. The chiefs stayed with the Falcons for the 1st part of the game; but after a missed FG they fell apart. One last thing... WR screens were very very effective for the Falcons, wouldn't be surprised to see the Bills run them this week. More notes are below. http://yardsperpass.com/?p=110 Thanks, -Jon
  6. I agree that we disagree.... but here's the thing, most of the time Revis is in man coverage vs Johnson and is watching the WR. Not playing zone and being able to watch the QB. In this situation Revis was literally 12 yards off the LOS at the snap and was in zone. When I watched the play live I thought the same thing as you in that the reason why the ball was picked off was that throw was late, I even said it to my friends watching it with me. But when I saw the overhead shot I saw that Revis was sitting back in Cover 6 (he had that deep quarter of the field), when a DB can sit back and drive forward on the football you really need to be sure you can get the ball there. At no point did Revis have to turn his hips to worry about being threatened deep. BTW again I do not know the play call... but I wouldn't be surprised if on this particular play SJ has an option reading the DB on whether or not to take the route deep on a fly or to break it off at a comeback. Fitz might have needed to see SJ break before he could throw the football. I do enjoy the discussion with you and appreciate the respectful way you are presenting your points. After all we all are Bills fans in the end and just want them to win -Jon Personally I think he is an average QB and the best QB we've had since the 1st season of Bledsoe (which is really sad)
  7. I totally understand the point you are making and against man coverage I think it is a throw he can make. But when someone is sitting in a zone reading the QB/WR, it doesn't matter when he throws it, the time given to Revis to react would still be the same.
  8. this is exactly what I saw The problem is that he can't throw that ball like a Cutler/Stafford or even RGIII can. The route was a simple comeback, if Revis is in man coverage, then it doesn't need to be "on a rope" as much because he back is to the QB. However when Revis is sitting back in a zone 15 yards off the line of scrimmage, the ball needs to be on a rope because anything less than that gives Revis enough time to make a break on the ball, when he can sit back and read the QB I just want to quickly add, that I don't think Fitz is a bad QB by any means, I think he is an average starting QB in the NFL -Jon
  9. Wow, why the sarcasm? I will illustrating a couple points with an example from week 1 that shows his strengths and limitations... not quite sure why you would react like that. The 2nd INT was a good example as well... the reason why I used the 1st one was because the read was more difficult. When I saw the game live and I agreed with you that his throw was late. But after watching the play more and more, a throw from the far hash to the far sideline needs to be on a line, unfortunately, only a few QB's can make that throw. Are you saying Johnson turned the wrong way on the route? That is hard to tell without knowing the exact play call... if one of the players said that post-game I must have missed it. Thanks, -Jon
  10. Basically his first pick represents all the good and bad things about him as a QB. Guy is smart enough to make the correct read but just doesnt have the physical tools to get the ball to where it needed to be. More in-depth analysis at the link below. http://yardsperpass.com/?p=107 -Jon
  11. yup I agree and that is what bothers me... if you only rush 4, you can press the WR's at the line b/c they should have safety help over the top. No idea where any of that was... can't wait to see the all-22 to see what was going on
  12. FYI, Bills only rushed more than 4 guys on only 3 of Sanchez's 26 pass attempts
  13. Funny that I see this post... I literally just wrote something about the lack of Rex Ryan blitzing yesterday. Maybe because they were up by so much, but they rarely brought pressure yesterday. http://yardsperpass.com/?p=102 Also the Bills only brought extra rushers on 3 of Sanchez's 26 pass attempts. Which in my opinion makes the pass coverage look that much worse.
  14. Yup having Barnett and Moats/Bradham playing OLB instead of Kelsay / Spencer Johnson is a huge upgrade Yup, I saw Brian's good post... he definitely made some good points. The different thing about Buffalo's 2TE offense is that the Bills rarely release Lee Smith into pass patterns, he is mainly a blocker (and an exceptional one at that). I agree that Dickerson was brought in to be that 2nd receiving TE... I know lots of fans are really intrigued to have him on the team b/c of the success of NFL teams using 2 TE's. It will be interesting to see how he is used, if at all. Lee Smith played really well against the Jets in 2011. -Jon @yardsperpass on twitter www.yardsperpass.com
  15. nfl game rewind... it's great Yeah it is a complicated game... even after watching we can't be 100% sure what is going on b/c we don't know the exact plays/assignments. But it sure is fun to figure out. Thanks for the kind words
  16. Bills fan when watching live, but when I study, I am a football fan if that makes sense. I literally sit at my computer (or ipad now, which is the best) watching every play 2-3 times, sometimes more if something interesting happened. Run plays are the easiest b/c most nfl teams run the same run plays and it is only 4-5 different ones at most, so that is pretty quick. But pass plays, I watch the safeties first, then the eligible receivers, then CB's/LB's, then the blocking. If you work from farthest away to the LOS, you can be pretty sure what is going on. But even still sometimes you see some weird stuff. When you take the sound and crowd out of it and it is just the game film, it really feels more like research than anything else.
  17. Kelsay is such a high motor guy, he gets easily fooled by PA and misdirection, I really do hope that the other guys can get Kelsay to relax a little and just do his job This is pretty much what I see from him all the time. Nope, Jets ran for about 125 both games... at a little over 3 yards a carry. I think it was 2010 when they really gashed us Agree with both... I really think we are going to see players "force the issue" with the replacement refs, make them make the call. As anyone who has played sports knows, it isn't a foul/penalty unless the ref calls it. I know that if I was a DB I would be pushing the limits. Also we will see more Spiller this year in the passing game. We saw some last year, and it seemed like he would get open and then drop the football. B/c CJ on a LB or safety really is a speed mismatch The Jets are actually pretty conservative (it may look confusing, but still is safe and fundamentally sound) until you get in those must pass situations, then you see the funky stuff... and Ryan is really smart, the funky stuff isn't always designed to get to the QB, it often times is designed to get you to throw it into a trap. Thanks for all the comments! -Jon @yardsperpass on twitter www.yardsperpass.com
  18. Short yardage, goal line and the occasional trick play... that's all they will use Tebow for. Anything else will cause way too much turmoil. Rex knows this, so unless he wants the craziness to begin, he needs to really watch how he uses Tebow Yeah he wants to be able to run and chase... not take on blockers. The switch to the 4-3 is going to help him the most
  19. Lee Smith really is an animal, guy was dominate in his blocking against the Jets. No exaggeration necessary, he was that good. -Jon @yardsperpass on twitter
  20. Yeah I plan on doing this for every game... I just love talking football. Regarding Moats, I don't know how much he will actually be on the field this year because he comes of the field anytime a team is not in their base offense. The good thing about this defense though is that he shouldn't have to be a playmaker, just an average starter and the Bills will be all set. I will say he is much better moving forward than dropping into coverage, where it can get ugly
  21. Watched both games a few times on all-22 took a bunch of notes http://yardsperpass.com/?p=93 I really like this match up for the Bills. With the DL and OLB upgrades, I would expect the Bills to sit back and play coverage and make the Jets QB's (whoever is in there) beat them while only rushing 4. Bills I would expect to use multiple TE and RB packages to keep the Jets out of their funky nickel/dime packages. Let me know if you have any comments/questions -Jon yardsperpass.com
  22. Pretty much this.... deep doesn't necessarily mean 40 yards down field, it just means making the defense respect the 2nd and 3rd levels
  23. obviously you're trying to be funny w/ you comment, but seriously go re-watch the games again and notice how Fitz is trying a lot more passes 10 yards + past the LOS than usual. Hence the low comp %.
  24. If anyone has noticed... there has been a concerted effort to throw deeper routes this preseason
