  1. I was one of the two posters on this board (Blokes was the other) that pegged Mahomes as my QB1 for the 2017 draft back in June of 2016, and even I'm skeptical of his ability to be successful in the NFL. My opinion at the time hasn't changed: he's got the physical ability and the desire to be great; he's going to need a LOT of work on stabilizing his platform, speeding up his delivery, climbing clean pockets instead of abandoning them, and generally making better decisions with the football. There's no reason to be convinced about him one way or another to this point
  2. Actually, there's zero evidence of what you're claiming aside from a report that Seattle inquired about Glenn but Buffalo wanted too much. There's also no evidence that he won't heal and return to form; bigger guys that were more advanced in age have come back from more serious injuries. Regardless, the discussion was centered around what they SHOULD do. Making the team worse by creating a new hole at a position they've been unable to fill for years isn't something that the team should do.
  3. Who is this other tackle that is not only solid, but both inexpensive and a guarantee to come here? Because Glenn is young, very good, and under contract for multiple seasons We're talking about a bird in the hand here
  4. Hey, you remember who plugged Robby from day 1 on this board! I only said he'd be good ON the field... ...and I was right
  5. Exactly. The team went into 2017 planning to have a pair of tackles that cost ~$15-16M AAV against the cap. That's precisely what they'd have if they keep the EXACT same tandem. getting hung up on which side of the line they play is, IMO, missing the forest for the trees
  6. Yes, it is. The Eagles (the #1 seed in the NFC), had a LT in Jason Peters, but they had zero compunction with paying RT Lane Johnson $11.5M per year. The point isn't to have the cheapest set of OTs you can get by with; it's to have the best team that you can field. The plan coming into 2017 was to move forward with Dawkins and Glenn at OT under their current contracts; this should still be the plan. Dawkins--per the CBA--cannot get a new deal for another 2 years, so what is the rush to jettison Glenn in favor of who-knows-what? Move him to RT, where he'll happily play for his LT salary, and focus on improving other parts of the team. To do anything else is taking yet another step back on a unit that is already in search of a new RG and RT (if you get rid of Glenn) and has players with one foot out the door at C and LG.
  7. I know what PFT based their report on; you apparently didn't read what I wrote, which is that PFT used the word "expected" when reporting the same article. And that's literally the headline of their post. Pick your bones with PFT for their headline; I merely repeated their words with zero slant. Also, regarding Deonte vs Sammy, context matters: https://www.playerprofiler.com/nfl/deonte-thompson-wr/ https://www.playerprofiler.com/nfl/sammy-watkins/ The efficiency of the two players isn't even close
  8. FWIW, PFT is reporting from the same article that he's "expected" to be tagged: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/01/11/report-rams-expected-to-franchise-tag-sammy-watkins/ And it's a smart move by the Rams. He's 24, healthy, and extremely productive when targeted. They've got the cap room to give him a one-year deal to prove what he can do with an entire offseason with the team, so why not? Gotta remember how the market moves. Davante Adams, who's never had a 1,000-yard season despite playing with Aaron Rodgers, just got $14.5M AAV. Sammy exceeded Adams' best season in 9 games in 2015 playing with Tyrod Taylor in an offense that passes the ball less than every other team in the league His agent will have a case for $15M
  9. They have plenty of cap room to address needs. They can sign a corner (Gaines or otherwise), a DT (i.e. Justin Ellis), and a speed WR (I like Brice Butler or Paul Richardson)--all in the Hyde/Poyer mold of undervalued player--and still have room to sign their treasure trove of draft picks with space to spare. If you can't come away from the draft with a QB, pass rusher, and MLB with the number of picks that Buffalo has, then hang 'em up. You fill in the rest (backup RB, backup QB, etc) with low-end FAs and UDFAs.
  10. No. I want the best team that I can field. You want to downgrade the set of tackles for the sake of creating cap space on a roster that is slated to have upwards of $50M of it once Taylor is released. You can have a Dawkins/Glenn set of tackles at their current contracts--just as was planned when Dawkins was drafted--or you can choose to mess with it and create a hole that doesn't exist. This team has enough holes in the roster; creating more of them is a poor approach to improving IMO.
  11. That's very outdated thinking It is literally illegal (per the CBA) to give Dawkins a new deal prior to the completion of his 3rd accrued season, so even if you got rid of Glenn and brought in someone at 1/3 of his price, you're still paying your RT far more than your LT. Me? I'd prefer to have he best set of tackles that I can. Having them at a total cap hit of $15M is fine by me.
  12. And? i don't have to pay Dawkins LT $$ for a bare minimum of 2 more years, during which time I have him as one of the cheapest LTs in the game, so what's the problem?
  13. I happen to think that Norwell is one of the 4 best guards in football I'm also not going to pay him $12M/year to play marginally better football than the current LG, who costs 60% that much. For me, I'm much more willing to shift Glenn over to RT and make a play for Yanda if/when he gets released (or Hubbard if Baltimore keeps Yanda) and roll with a front 5 of Dawkins-Richie-Wood-Yanda/Hubbard-Glenn.
  14. I dislike a lot of this... - Unless Gaines takes a deal in the 8-9 AAV range, I'm not interested. He seems to get hurt in every game. - No thanks on Preston Brown; I can find a 2-down thumper that can't cover on day 3 of the draft if I need one. - I'm not breaking the bank to the tune of $10M AAV+ for Norwell or $11M AAV+ for Star in FA. I'd much rather spend 1/3 of that on Chris Hubbard and Justin Ellis, respectively. - I equate Rudolph to Paxton Lynch, so he's not on my radar until day 3. Washington, Kizer, Lowell, and Chubb I am in agreement on. Eventually, you need to start taking bites at the apple if you want long-term success. Better to pull the trigger too early on a guy that doesn't work out (EJ) than to wait too long on a guy that does (Dak/Wilson/Dalton/Cousins)
  15. Correct. They need to take the same approach that they took in 2013. I don't care if EJ didn't work out; he was the right pick at the time. When the cupboard is bare at the most important position in the game, you take the highest-rated QB on your board. The only way that isn't the case if if they end up signing Cousins or dealing for McCarron.
  16. I've been a Mayfield guy all year, but I just haven't dug into enough of the film to modify my preseason rankings, which were Mayfield-Rosen-Jackson-Darnold-Allen. As for pass rushers, I love Bradley Chubb, but he's a top-5 lock to me. Hoping once the busy work time of the next few weeks subsides I'll get more active in the tapes, but I do really like Landry as a pass rusher.
  17. Actually I'm all about re-signing Leonard Johnson as the slot guy. I'm just not sure they'll be able to get EJ to take the deal they feel he's worth, so that makes boundary corner a need. Now if it were me, I'm looking at a team like Oakland, who has Conley and Carrie starting, and I'm trying to flip them a mid round pick for Amerson--who I think would be a great fit here. I mention corner in the draft because it's one of the premium positions--the ones where difference-makers can change a team's fortunes. I'm not much of a draft-for-need guy; I think you take BPA at the premium positions on days 1 and 2. As for FA, I would be working to re-sign the role players like Cadet, Ryan Davis, the aforementioned Johnson, Humber (as a backup), and perhaps Wright as well. From there, I'm looking to make a move for a corner and bring in the underrated guys a la Hyde and Poyer. I've mentioned Justin Ellis and Paul Richardson as two that fit the bill, as would Brice Butler from Dallas. I'd also be watching to see if Baltimore lets Yanda go--he may follow Castillo to Buffalo and shore up the RG spot. Swing Glenn over to RT and you have the makings of quite a formidable front.
  18. Best QB on the board and best player of the DEs and CBs on the board.
  19. I don't love the matchup for Buffalo. If the Jags get their run game back to form it'll get ugly--Buffalo can't stop the run at all I know Jacksonville's D vs Bills' O looks like a brutal mismatch, but Buffalo's O is odd; Tyrod manages to make plays against most teams despite not being a great QB. For me, the key to the game will be if Buffalo can hit a few deep shots off PA, convert red zone opportunities, and create a few turnovers. If so, they'll have a chance. Absolutely love the Jags D-line. Their ability to attack in both phases gives their back 7 so much flexibility
  20. Didn't Susan Lucci also break a 17-year streak?
  21. I will most certainly pray for you and your family. Oddly, I have an uncle that went through something quite similar, though his tumor was actually at T1/2. It was quite a scary-looking procedure, but he is completely fine and living a comfortable and active life over 5 years later (and he was 50 years old at the time). May that give you hope.
  22. I wasn't Kyle lined up at FB more than a few times when Rex was here, and it made perfect sense to try to pay him tribute if the situation presented itself I imagine that nearly everyone figured he was getting the rock once they saw him in the game as the up-back
  23. Take it to PPP
  24. As I always say: the only mystery with Watkins is why he doesn't get more targets. On a per-target basis, he's utterly dominant. Seriously.
