Head Coach Top 3 wish list
thewildrabbit replied to coldstorage5's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You guys can wish all you want, no way this team hires anyone they have to pay big bucks for... Jim Haslett, another Dick Jauron clone will get the job -
Tebow would be great as an NFL RB-WR option / wildcat QB. The NFL defenses are really not prepared to stop the option and the way Miami has used the wildcat showed this because most teams haven't been able to shut down that Miami running game / wildcat. Mostly because teams simply don't study film on it or see it enough to prepare for it, it will work until some team comes up with a way to stop it. Anyone watch Tennessee run the option with Vince Young this last game at Houston, looked just like a college play and it worked very well. Tim Tebow is a winner, what ever team drafts him will be a winner if they utilize him properly.

I'm not going to object to any decent head coach hire as long as they hire experienced coordinators. The Bills need to dump the Mike Martz offense and Tampa 2 defense, personally I'd like to see a OC with a west coast background to revamp the current playbook to modern standards. But then looking at the Baltimore offense I'd want to hire Cam Cameron away from them and make him OC and assistant head coach, or head coach. I know he is not a WC coach but he certainly knows what he is doing with an offense, unlike the Bills coaches for the last decade. But then I really can't stand the Tampa 2 defense either, so a disciple of the Steelers 3-4 would be fine by me. Anyone know anything about John Mitchell DL coach and assistant head coach of the Steelers? I'd love to see the Bills run a 3-4 like Pittsburgh Another guy I wouldn't object to is Mike Nolan the Denver DC, that Denver D went from near last in 08 to near best in the NFL this season.
-
Donte Whitner was the 53rd rated player on the board, but the Bills were clearly desperate for a safety as they had just dumped Lawyer Milloy. The Raiders took Michael Huff with the pick right before Buffalo and so far he hasn't played as well as Whitner. Is Whitner a great safety, in a word no. But then who knows how good he could be if he played in a different system, see Jim Leonhard. Personally I hate the Tampa 2 and will be happy to see that defense dead and gone from the NFL or at least from Buffalo. Mostly because most DC's simply can't get it to work very well, irregardless of talent on the field. Why does everyone blame Levy for the Whitner pick when he stated he only suggests who to pick, and Jauron had the power draft who he wanted. If anything It is Jauron who has scrood the pooch every year with his draft choices IMO.

Not for nothing but look at the division he was in, the NFC South Buc's-Falcons-Saints-Panthers. Does anybody truly think he can compete with Bill Belichick?
-
If the Bills have publicly stated they would pay 10 million for Shanahan, wouldn't he be a fool to accept a job now when he could get the Washington job for more money? The Chargers WILL fire Norv Turner should they fail to make the playoffs...Wade Phillips WILL be fired in Dallas should they fail to make the playoffs. John Fox is almost history in Carolina-Gary Kubiak is almost history in Houston-Lovie Smith is almost history in Chicago. All these could be looking to hire a head coach. We already know Eric Mangini is gone in Cleveland, Tom cable is gone in Oakland, Jim Zorn is gone in Washington, Jauron gone in Buffalo, is 4 for certain. It will be 7-10 by the end of the season. Why would anyone take a job for 10 million now if they can get more money from wealthier teams. With both Dallas and Washington in the mix, the bidding on Shanahan could go as high as 14 mill a year easily.
-
The guy I like is Charlie Casserly, he is about the only one I listen to in all the pre game shows. But I'm sure there are other guys out there that are as good or better at evaluating talent. This franchise is in desperate need of a GM that is a Bill Polian clone, someone who will bring in the proper talent and hire the right assistant coaches. I think part of the problem the last few years is the FO listened to Jauron on personnel, which was not the smartest of moves. The fans want Shanahan and deservedly so, but all the team really needs is a really good game manager, motivator and great assistant coaches. Guys like OC Cam Cameron in Baltimore and DC Mike Nolan in Denver would even make Dick Jauron look good, for awhile. The franchise is desperate for a winner, lets hope they hire someone that is a proven winner. Just say no to Charlie Weiss-Jim Haslett-Mike Martz-Jim Fassel-Dennis Green-Romeo Crennel I just wonder if Urban Meyer would be willing to take the Buffalo job provided he gets a chance to draft Tebow with the Bills #1 pick. The NFL isn't ready to stop the option / wildcat full time, sure would be exciting to watch Tebow rush for TD's again and again against the Patriots, just a thought.

How on gods green earth does Jim Haslett even deserve an interview? Haslett, 7 years HC, 1 division champ, 47-61, MINUS 14 games under .500!!!! record and only went to the playoffs his first year, which means the team was already good. His last season at NO he went 3-13, then as interim in St Louis 2-10. He sucks You may as well rehire Dick Jauron for what you will get with Haslett...

Martz reportedly wants to be Bills coach
thewildrabbit replied to Reddy Freddy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't call Kelly and that 90's offense pass happy, well maybe at times. Thurman Thomas accounted for about 70% of that offense, rarely did opposing teams stop that Buffalo running game. The Bills used to run to set up the pass. If anything they seemed to forget Thurman was the key and did go pass happy in the super bowls, I suppose that is because Kelly called his own plays. The guy sitting next to me at SB 25 mentioned Kelly is trying to win MVP he is throwing so much. When the media asked Marv Levy why they didn't run the ball more and use Thomas more, he stated "you dance with who brought you"... -

The thing about Martz is the scheme he runs, he seems to put the QB under way to much pressure, his QB's always seem to take a brutal pounding -
Maybe 10 years ago I'd take Marty, not at age 67...Plus he has stated he doesn't want to come out of retirement. Please don't equate Jim Haslett with Brian Billick, one has won a SB and the other couldn't get his team to a winning record. Haslett 7 years 1 division champ 47-61 MINUS 14 games under .500 record and only went to the playoffs his first year, which means the team was already good. His last season at NO he went 3-13, then as interim in St Louis 2-10. He sucks Billick 9 years, 80-64 16 games over .500 SB 2 division championships, and in the same division as the Steeler's Billick is not my first choice for sure, but he is a SB winner and knows what it takes to get there. Also, he know how to motivate a team and manage a game. I'm thinking his second time around he does some things differently.

This team is not light years away, a few PROPER moves and this team makes the playoffs last year, this year. Say the team rewards Jason Peters 2 years ago with a bonus and makes his pay equal to Dockery and Walker. The entire O line is happy and does a better job pass blocking and run blocking. Look at the way they ran the ball against the Jets last season, if they can do that in that game with the proper motivation, then they should do that every game. Once Steve Fairchild quit, Instead of hiring Turd Schonert as your OC you hire an experienced play caller to run the offense. The entire offense performs much better, and both JP and Edwards PROGRESS instead of regressing. When Jim McNally retired, instead of promoting an inexperienced O line coach the team hire's a really good experienced line coach like they did with the D line. Just those few moves make the offense respectable and in the top 15 instead of the bottom 5. The Bills cost cutting moves seem to come back and haunt them, but then you get what you pay for. I'm pretty sure It wasn't just Jauron who made all the idiotic decision's the last few years. -
It just amazes me how inept this front office and coaching staff is...what a team of galacticly impaired bozo's. How Ralph Wilson tolerates these idiots I'll never understand. This team has had a revolving door at LT since week 2, even starting a practice squad player from another team and they never addressed even trying to sign a replacement tackle worth a damn. From what I've read Levi Jones is started and playing well for the Redskins. Now this past week another team has brought in Jon Runyan, the Chargers. Now after every decent FA tackle has been signed and a guard gets injured they finally sign a freaking guard after moving the starting guard Levitre to tackle. For whatever reason this staff failed to find a replacement for Jason Peters in the draft, free agency and now that is coming back to bite them in the azz. They cut the starting right tackle because after they moved him to left tackle he couldn't get to the line fast enough to run the "no huddle" ...which has since been scrapped. That fact that the front office refused to pay Jason Peters 2 years ago has kept this team from having decent play from their O line for going on 3 years now.Just think if they had upped Peters pay with a one million dollar bonus just for making the pro bowl instead of stonewalling the guy, oh yea, it pays to be cheap. I just don't get how you let a near billion dollar franchise run itself into the ground like this, is the owner just watching out a window somewhere ...looking at the squirrels run around in the trees?

The fans are so desperate for a winner of any kind they will take a guy who rarely wins a playoff game and was fired because of that. The is no doubt that given 3 years he might have the Bills in the playoffs, maybe. But then he couldn't get past Buffalo while he was in KC, couldn't get past Denver while in Cleveland, couldn't get past the Patriots in San Diego. 8 time division champ, but never even won an AFC Championship, much less a super bowl. 14-2 and lose to the wildcard Patriots at home At this point if Wilson really has opened his wallet to build a winner, Marty should be a last resort and not a top choice. Brian Billick got it done with a scrub QB, great defense and an offense that could run the ball, I'd sooner see him get another chance then see someone as old as Marty try and build another winner.
-
They need an offense that can sustain drives, make first downs and score. Not just get lucky with some deep bombs to Lee Evans and T.O.= Build an offensive line !!! premier left tackle first! They need a defense that can stop teams from getting first down's and get the ball back, most importantly they need to be able to stop the run without stacking the box.= bigger D linemen who can cave in the pocket with a power rush, rather then speed rushers and smaller, dinky DE's Superstar QB's are harder to find then hen's teeth, so build an offense that can get by with an average QB who won't cause turnovers, and learn to run the ball consistently.=Fitzpatrick, Edwards would do the job if you build an O line to protect them like Brady and Manning are protected and an O line that can run the ball effectively. The Bills need to hire a head coach with a vision of winning super bowls, not just making the playoffs. The late 80's early 90's Bills got it done with a mediocre head coach who knew how to motivate and game manage. A brilliant GM who brought in top talent and hired a great offensive coordinator First step :Brilliant GM ...and the rest will follow.
-
I highly doubt any owner in his right mind would allow Shanahan to have as much free reign as he had in Denver, even Daniel Snyder. I think at this point the Bills are so desperate for a winning head coach they are talking out of desperation with 10 million a year, or at least starting rumors to that effect. There are other SB winning coaches out there that would work for much less and probably do a better job "IF" the Bills have the proper talent evaluator in GM / President in place AND hire the right coordinators. Lets face it Jauron knew DB's and that's about it, even then he chose wrong several times.
-
Rumor has it my dog wants to coach the Bills, and has about as much chance as the clown known as Glanville who was just fired by a college team
-
Marty Ball won't be coming to Buffalo
thewildrabbit replied to NY Nole's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is because Daniel Snyder has been hounding the guy to take the Redskins job, he offered it to Shanahan also from what I've read. -
I used to be rah rah rah after marty until i took a long look at his career, the guy knows how to build a winner, just not a playoff winner. While Shanahan is still out there I'll hold out hope for him, this franchise needs a proven SB winner in the worst way. I think I'd go after Brian Billick before Marty at this point, he knows what it takes to get there and win.
-
Your joking right? Cowher, 15 years head coach, 9 division championships, 2 conference championships and one super bowl. So YOU think Cowher wouldn't be good enough to be hired as the next Bills head coach? About the only person on the planet that "might" be a better choice for a head coach is Mike Shanahan.
-
Jeez, they guy was fired in San Diego after getting the DC job, correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't he Wade Phillips DC while here in Buffalo? If so then Wade gave him a hand with the D because he stunk it up in San Diego. Can we pls stop with the ohhh howabout this guy as next head coach crap, and hire a freaking man who is a winner? This franchise hasn't had a championship win since the 60's, and that was in the AFL
-
Shoot, I'd take the "Chin" over most others, he would make the Bills a winner. This franchise needs an offensive overhaul, but I'd think Cowher is smart enough to find the proper talented assistant coaches and he is a shrewd player talent evaluator. I highly doubt he will take anything other then the Carolina job tho.
-
Seriously, can you really blame the guy? He made the pro bowl and every analyst is stating he is the best young tackle in the league. The Bills bring in two fat scrubs and pay them 4-6 million more then JP was making. Not to mention he is playing the toughest spot on the line. Anyway you look at it the front office scrood the pooch on how they handled that situation. Considering every NFL player is one bad play away from retirement,(like Eric Wood) they deserve every penny they can get, while they can get it.
