  1. No they weren't. They weren't stacking the box in overtime. They were only rushing four. They never even blitzed.
  2. He cleared the 53-yarder by about 6 yards, both times he kicked it. This is a non-point.
  3. Why all of a sudden are people down on Jackson? He might have been bad in the first half, but he was making the runs when he needed to in the second half.
  4. If they're five yards farther up the field on the first possession by running the ball instead of throwing incomplete pass after incomplete pass, they don't even have the opportunity to run the Spiller play, because they already win the game.
  5. You're not allowed to talk about this on the WGR post-game show. You're also not allowed to talk about this on Sal Cappacio's ridiculous Justin TV post-game show. You're not allowed to talk about it on WGR because "everyone loved Ryan Fitzpatrick last week so why would they want to take the ball out of his hands this week!?1" and "You don't know enough about the defensive formations to know if the run would have even made sense there~!" (???) You're not allowed to talk about it on Sal's show because "I used to coach high school football and I have decided that this isn't an issue therefore by edict of Sal, because high school football coaches are really knowledgeable about the NFL and are allowed to make edicts and things, it is not to be spoken about." You know what's as bad as the game? The awful post game shows for this team. My goodness. This is one of the biggest points of the game. How about running it just once? How about the running an empty backfield set from the 42 yard line. THIS **** MAKES NO SENSE. I wish SOMEBODY was talking about it, so thank you.
  6. Even if Fitz keeps it up he probably won't go because QB is a glamour position and he will likely be on one of the worst teams, record wise, in the league. They don't like to send QBs from very bad teams, even if the QB is very good. I think the best bet is Kyle Williams. If Fred Jackson averages almost 5 yards per carry the rest of the season he might have a chance, too.
  7. Fitz is a weird off-season player. Both years in camp for Buffalo the reports have been that he's been awful and very nearly cut. I think he does some things with his game that don't translate well to practice necessarily. Since he's not the most athletically gifted QB, you see more of what he can do with his confidence and game intelligence. Edwards it seems like was the exact opposite. Lots of physical tools that he can't apply to the real thing.
  8. There seems to be a lot of "if this keeps up" in this thread. I concur with that whole heartedly, but mostly because I feel like there is a strong possibility it won't keep up. Fitz has guts, is playing extremely well right now and cares, which is always nice. But is his QB rating last year was under 70, and he's never, ever been this good before. Maybe Gailey has done something to him or maybe Fitz has done something, but 4 games with an 0-4 record, one of which was a bad game, one which was good and two that were really good a franchise QB does not make.
  9. A "clutch" kick does not necessarily mean "at or near the end of the game with the score close". Clutch can mean lots of things. I consider a kick in an important game with a one score lead that can be made a two score lead with a FG clutch. I consider a kick against the wind with the play clock very low pretty clutch. I consider any kick over 52 yards clutch, accounting for the angle at which a kicker generally has to place the ball (right into defenders hands, more or less). But to answer our question about 4th quarters, Lindell was 77.8% in the 4th Quarter in 2009, 50% in the 4th Quarter in 2008, 100% in 2007, 85.7% in 2006. He has had few bad years, but has generally been about league average or above league average in the 4th Quarter. I think the kick that stands out to me the most is the missed kick on MNF against Cleveland. We always remember the devastating misses more than the miraculous makes. That's the life of a kicker. We love Steve Christie because he made a lot of game-tying and game-winning field goals in the dying seconds. But if you look at his statistics, he also missed A LOT of easy ones. I'm talking... he would not be good enough to be an NFL kicker these days. I remember in '99 during the Music City Miracle game, Christie hit that 41-yard field goal to give Buffalo the lead, and the thing barely cleared the cross bar. I thought to myself, "He doesn't have it anymore". We should enjoy Lindell while we have him. He's not particularly great in the closing seconds, though not awful either. But outside of that, he has probably been the most accurate kicker in Bills history.
  10. Total agreement with PTR, a great voice of reason around here for the most part. What are these things that Nix has to become accountable for? Sullivan is the same asshat who went on the air on WGR last year and lambasted the Byrd draft pick in association with Maybin, then practically performed fellatio on the guy a month later. This is the same guy who acts like Fred Jackson's 1,000/1,000 is some league-altering statistic, completely ignoring the fact that he only had the opportunity to return kick offs because of how awful the team was and how much of it was hurt. Enough already with this clown. About a week ago, another poster on here made a thread that predicted that the second that Lynch was traded, the media that had been asking why he hadn't been traded would begin to question if Nix got enough and what took so long. So what's the alternative? Not trade him at all, so they can then continue to B word about that? The fact of the matter is, Sullivan is constantly pissed off about the notion that the people in charge at One Bills Drive don't do exactly what he thinks, all of the time, because he is naturally the smartest guy in the room. Randy Moss, a much better player still than Lynch, with Minnesota desperate for a deep threat, could only garner a 3rd-round-pick. Is it not at all possible that this is the best deal that Buffalo could get for Lynch, and that they weren't getting this deal in the off-season? I refuse to believe that Nix decided to wait until October to pull the trigger on a deal when the same deal was available in August.
  11. Occasionally when my wife and I take our two dogs to the dog park, there is a familiar Chihuahua there. He is small and vocal -- he yips and yips, and as the other dogs run and wrestle and play, you can tell that all the little Chihuahua wants, all he desires in the world, is just to be able to play with the big dogs. But he is never going to be any stronger or tougher or faster than he is. And he is never going to exhibit the bravery or intelligence necessary to overcome that. He is never going to get their attention. He is never going to be anything but a casual nuisance to them. So he just sits there, and yips and yips and yips, like a vile little half-rodent, hoping that he can make up for what he lacks in doggyness with diminutive yipping. Donte Whitner is a Chihuahua. Not nearly as good as he wants to be, and endlessly trying to make up for it with noise.
  12. Well the answer is the Democrats will win, just by sheer number of opportunities, and there are some pretty solid Democratic locks in play. Plus the Bills winning percentage this year might be .000 I too stay away from PPP, mostly because I am a left-leaning moderate, which is the PPP equivalent of being an Ottawa Senators fan or something.
  13. Nix and Gailey are here for a while. If Gailey was to be fired, Ralph would be paying three head coaches simultaneously. Most owners wouldn't do that, let alone Wilson. But if the Bills can finally draft right, then bottoming out is a good thing. My fear is we end up falling to the bottom and then someone pulls the rope up before we can grab on, and we're just stuck down here forever and ever, drafting god damn cornerbacks and safeties for all of history.
  14. Over the last ten years we have changed a lot of things, but the one thing we've always had is a talent shortage. I don't know how that could possibly be a coincidence.
  15. Whatever it sounds like is wrong. I'm mad with stupidity. I think that Obama has done a generally awful job. I also think that it detracts from the argument when you make utterly ridiculous, patently false arguments about him. When someone says he took the economy from a ditch off a cliff, they are giving Obama credibility by being utterly and totally ridiculous. There are plenty of things to criticize about this President (or the last one, or, likely, the next one). How about we stick to the tangible stuff, instead of living in the deepest part of Glenn Beck's innards? And I took the tone I did because this stuff should stay in the political forum where the cast of One Flew's Over the Cuckoos Nest can consume their young in peace. This is the football part of the forum and I like it that way.
  16. The economy was in one of the three worst situations in American history when Obama was elected. He was elected almost specifically for that reason. It was not a ditch, it was a bottomless pit. This **** has no place in this part of the forum, and there is a reason people don't run to football fans when they are looking for sound political advice.
  17. The Chiefs, sure. If I had to choose. But I wouldn't want either really. I wouldn't want to choose between syphilis and malaria either.
  18. The point that was being made was that your opinion on Chris Kelsay essentially destroys the validity of anything else that you say (though you are purposely combative and contrarian, because -- I dunno: psychological shortcomings). Thing is: No one respects you here. Not even as a troll. You're the Chan Gailey of trolls.
  19. The Kansas City Chiefs are to 2010 as the Buffalo Bills are to 2008. "Crowning their ass" as a proper rebuilding effort when KC has played nothing but scrubs is akin to what happened here just a few years ago. It wasn't so long ago the Levy was anointed yet again a great one and the draft of Lynch/Poz/Edwards was declared the hit of the century or something. Patience on the Chiefs. Back to earth they come.
  20. I am not a fan of Brian Brohm. I am not interested in Brohm being the future QB of this team. I am not interested in even considering it. BUT! If Gailey & co. want to "work with Brohm more" as they used as a reason for the Edwards release, why not now?
  21. If we go 0-16, which I can't believe I've finally got to this point, but it's seeming more and more feasible -- if we go winless, and the Bills go into next year and still stubbornly throw away draft picks on illogical selections, throw small contracts to sub-average back-ups from other teams and completely ignore, for no particular reason, various problem areas while stock piling talent at a couple of soft-outcome positions... If they continue to do all that after being 0-16, after being at the absolute bottom, with teams who can't score putting up 40 on us, with the offense barely able to get positive yardage, how many of us will be done? That would make them worse than the Lions, which is as low as you can go. I'm willing to give them through next year's draft to show me that this thing can be turned around. I am willing to believe that it is still not irreversibly damaged. But this is the first time in my whole fandom that I'm seriously beginning to consider that I have to come to terms with the idea that no matter what -- no matter how bad it could possibly get, the Bills will not take the appropriate steps to remedy the situation. It is a thing that I can't completely understand, which makes it all the more frustrating. I'm giving them one more draft, and trying to find little rays of hope in games like these, like, David Nelson looks good today. But I am also looking at other teams that I enjoy watching, like, say, the Ravens, and asking myself "Why not?"
  22. This. Totally indicative of what is wrong with the team. We've got a #4 DB who is usually the #2 playing #1. He never looks back at the ball during the play and then decides to talk trash rather than look for a live ball in the air. All while down ten points.
  23. Wouldn't it be nice if Fitz had talent to go along with his guts? Wouldn't it be nice if Edwards had guts to go along with his athleticism? And regardless, hordes of the Zubaz collective will be frantic in their desperation to make sure that they are right on an internet message board, which is far more critical than any substantial discussion about, you know, anything.
  24. Byrd juggled the ball as he rolled out of bounds, looks like he briefly lost total control of it then picked it back up on the Bills sideline. Replay showed it pretty clearly, unfortunately.
