  1. because its all about perception. be it announcers or the talking heads on ESPN etc

I listed the stats of the defenses by total yards and points. the latter should be the telling point. Orton has escaped a 1-2 record because the Vikes D and Puts* D are worse than the Bills and all of the other teams EJ faced.

Orton has escaped or the Bills have escaped? Orton escaped or the Oline, OC and RBs escaped? It seems that you want to attribute everything bad that happens to Orton's play and assign none of it where it belongs.

What you and others criticizing Orton are failing to realize is that the run game has done nothing so it's all been on Orton. Vikings never had an 8 man box because they were dominating us with 7 man fronts. Then our RBs go down and even more pressure goes on the passing game. Not to mention, didn't Woods and Hogan fumble in big spots too?

So again, why did Orton escape when nothing else on offense was working (minus sammy)

  2. Maybe John its about whether we will win ANY MORE GAMES with this offense playing like this. If you think the offensive play in Detroit will get us many wins then you have no idea what football looks like.

You completely fail to mention that Detroit still has the 6 total D, #7 D vs the pass and #1 scoring D as well over the first half of the season. They're giving up 219 , 61% YPPG , 7 TDs and 7 Ints and a 76 QBR all year.

In Orton's first start WITHOUT ANY CAMP OR PRACTICE PRIOR TO GAME WEEK, he throws for 300, 70% 1 TD 1 INT and an 88 QBR and almost a full yard per attempt more than Dtroit is giving up (Not dink and dunks). The Bills rushed the ball 22 for 49 yds too.

But hey, those are just the facts.

  3. BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN I CANT CRITICIZE THE SUB PAR PLAY by him or anyone on this team. And right now, this offense is NOT playing well enough to win consistently. That includes EJs last 2 games, the OL, Hackett, and receivers dropping passes too.

Ya know how I know you're an "EJ lover"? You said, "EJ's last two games".

Joking aside, you keep saying Orton basically sucks but you seem to ignore the facts.

  4. Him being out of breath and costing them on the pass blocking wasn't really his fault, that was all on Hackett and Marrone. They can't continue to call plays like it's Madden with the fatigue level turned off.

I haven't played Madden in years but I always turned the Fatigue level off when I played. Good point though.

  5. Why is it if someone criticizes someone they are a hater of that player and a lover of the player behind him? Im so tired of this board mentality because no one can openly discuss the pros and cons of a player.

You just answered your own question. Saying that Orton has played bad enough for the Bills to be 0-3 is the most ludicrous thing I've ever read on this board and that's saying something.

You say you want to "talk football" but and in the same breath you say " He's also came through when we got a break late at end of games to steal 2 wins ". Is that "talking football or spinning the hell out what actually has happened? His second half numbers stack up against anybody's in the NFL and you're "logic" is that "we got a break"? So if a QB has near perfect RZ, 3rd down and second half play he's "getting a break". Got it.

So here's the answer to your own question, the reason why people are labeled "EJ lovers" is because they try to degrade the very obvious good play of Orton when the stats, splits, and results clearly paint a much different picture.

  6. Orton was signed on August 30th. He had no Spring, no summer, no mini camps and didn't get firs team reps until October. Take into account that our O line is horrible and our run game has been bad since he's been in. Considering all of those facts, he's done very well.

Look at some of his splits :

    4th QTR +/-7 : 200 yds - 73% - 7.7 Per att - 1 TD no Int's - 108 QB Rating/ 113 QB in the 4th overall

    2nd half of games: 570 yds - 70% - 8.3 yds att - 3 Tds - no Int's - 109 QB rating

    3rd down and 1-8 yds: 171 yds - 15 for 16 - 94%!!!!!! - 9 yds att - 107 qb rating

Red Zone: 71% (12-17) 4 TDs NO INTS 115 QB rating.

I could keep going but his splits prove one thing, He's clutch on the money downs and money moments which is what wins games in the NFL. Last time I checked most spreads are usually a single score. 109 QB rating in the second half and people are complaining? He's not the future but he's been a lot better than some want to make him out to be given the facts.

  7. This game was like if EJ somehow threw a last second td to beat Houston. It didn't change the fact he was terrible for most of the game.

Orton was terrible and the only reason we hung around is because the Vikes are more terrible (Bridgewater is so much better than EJ!!!) and our defense playing out of their minds.

Be consistent. You'd be ripping EJ for a performance like that. Or is getting 1 td for most of the game against George Edwards good enough?

Dude, it's pretty clear that you can't handle the Bills winning or being wrong. Also make sure to drink a cup of coffee before you post.

  8. I'm sitting here watching the Flutie special and half way through they get into the Buffalo years. They cut to Flutie replacing the ever-brittle RJ against San Diego and then BOOM, Van's remarkable voice calling a TD to Reed. There are very few things in my life that give me instant chills and an amazing nostalgic feeling like his voice. It's really so special to me. He's an all time great and a class act. Thank you Van for being the best there was!

  9. Sorry to have to correct you, but I believe it's "friggin' Lonnie Johnson!"

It's almost like Ralph directed that the team would never use another high pick on a TE after Tony Hunter was a bust from the 1983 draft. Remember 2010: Torrel Troup (remember him?) taken before Gronk!

I wouldn't doubt it. That draft was an effing disaster. Nix started the "rebuild" with players we didn't need with the first two picks! Keep that turd away from the new regime please.

  10. John, if you consistently have a line that can't protect the QB, you end up keep the TE in for blocking more, meaning the need for a receiving TE is diminished.

Are you saying that every team that has a good TE has a good Oline? 2 TE sets are pretty common which again, creates mismatches and opens up play action.

I would also ask, how does drafting RBs, Secondary and especially project Qbs help a leaky Oline?

  11. I'm usually firmly against bringing back the old guard but I like Reich. He's been around some of the greatest offensive minds of modern football. His time with Boomer, Kelly, Peyton and Rivers gives him a perspective that I want and that is needed to win in the NFL. He's been around some great winning organizations in their prime and it looks like he's on another. He's not overly dynamic but he's already a fan favorite and I believe the Bills fans need a coach that they love and relate too. Love his pedigree.

  12. It could be that the team has so many holes on it that using a pick on a TE, especially when they are very risky picks at the top of the draft, and that some of the better TE's came in the late rounds or were undrafted. Thus, the brass at OBD have deemed that they can do alright with late picks or FA's, as most other franchises have done in said period.

Never said at the top of the draft. How bout in the second or third round though? At least see if some basketball players want to try out!

1st :Davis, Gonzo, Rudolph, Heath Miller and Gresham

    2nd: Gronk, Witten, Bennett, Ertz

    3rd: Graham, Reed, Allen

The list above are some of the top TE's. That's a lot of talent and the Bills have had shots at most of them. When you have an impact TE it always gives the offense an advantage. Why the Bills haven't caught on in 20 years is beyond me. Hopefully this changes becasue drafting RBs ,Secondary or reaching for project QBs hasn't worked.

  13. Funny enough Buddy was at the game today. I saw him on my way out by gate 1. Guess he was in town for Pegula's first game.

Good Lord don't let him anywhere near this team. I love how he was the "great evaluator" of college talent and probably had the worst draft in the teams history. 2010-2012 are 3 of the worst draft in the teams history. Before anyone says Dareus, you should hit on the 3rd overall pick. Picking CJ when you had Freddy and Marshawn still blows my mind.

  14. For some reason the Bill's various regimes have not made a TE a priority during the drafts. Last time we took a TE before the 4th round was 05 (Kevin Everett) and before that, 1994 (Lonnie Johnson). There's been a few good ones too. Not sure why they undervalue the most versatile position on offense.

  15. - Schwartz - called a terrible game. Where was the A/B gap pressure? Why are our corners playing 10 yds off their terrible WRs.

    - CJ - is the softest player I've ever seen play football. He's clearly playing not to get hurt.

    - Mario Williams - he's been virtually indetectable this year.

    - OT's - what you saw today was a vintage Seantrel Henderson game - his mind will never be in 16 games. Glenn was inconsistent at b

    - The entire secondary - it's tough to cover WRs when Brady has 10 seconds in the pocket and the DC is not dialing up any pressure.
