  1. From a college board - all teams - in general very critically thinking fans:

    1. Bills saw a 6'5 guy with great character, personality, and work ethic and failed to notice he was not a QB worth drafting anywhere near that high. EJ is a great guy and played for my team but I said at the time he was a guaranteed bust, was shocked any professionals could watch his tape and see a 1st rd pick. His biggest problems weren't really ones you can dramatically improve. Yoy either have good timing, anticipation, and feel for the gane or you don't. A QB with horrible anticipation, timing, and ability to read a defense in college is not someone you draft on day 1. EJ would wait until a WR made his break and was open and stationary before he would throw it. The very first game Jameis played it was night and day, Jameis anticipated and threw before guys even broke. WRs didn't have to wait on the ball because of an EJ floater or late throw. Not everyone is Winston, but EJ had god awful timing and anticipation. Jameis could also read a defense, see the field, and knew where his WRs were supposed to be 10 times better in game 1/as a FR than EJ as a Sr. I don't think EJ always knew where everyone was supposed to be which is why he had to wait until they were there to throw it. Jameis knew where people were supposed to be so he was anle to anticipate better. EJ is a smart guy but I don't think he was football smart.

    2. I'm a Nole and will never understand how they saw tape of EJ and thought he was first rd much less a top 15 talent. Dude had horrible timing on his passes, couldn't even read a college defense, threw floaters, constantly spun away 10 yards to turn a 10 yard sack into a 20 yard sack, couldn't go through his progressions, etc x 10.

God damn you hit this **** right on the head. Him getting drafted in the first round will probably go down as one of the biggest WTF moments in the history of the NFL draft. I literally laughed when he was drafted. Look, nice guy, represented our school with class and all that jazz, but he was horrendous. He was absolutely the governor on that 2012 team. Had we started Winston over him, I have no doubt we atleast make the national championship game and probably win it. That 2012 team was just as loaded as 2013.

    3. EJ could never hit the broad side of a barn! That's why he never played for a NC at FSU. Jameis took the very same roster EJ had and won a Heisman and a NC as a Freshman! I was shocked to see EJ get drafted in the first round after continually over throwing every WR for 4 years.

    4. Just to reiterate what fellow Noles are saying ITT, I was floored when EJ was taken 15th overall. All those guys with alleged great FB minds looked at the tape of his career and thought he was the answer. It fvcking amazes me that multiple people signed off on that pick. What a disaster. Just a great kid that has slow eyes and no killer instinct. How does that happen?

i did not cherry pick a thread on our QB situation. There's much more here: http://forums.rivals.com/threads/holy-****-ej-manuel-is-a-waste-of-space.185328/#post-4622295

You will never see VT fans talk this way about Tyrod.

In fairness, FSU fans are spoiled by 5-star talent and feel entitled to win more than most fan bases - not necessarily a bad thing - just is.

I saw this on the Mainboard and it's nothing new. Most honest Noles fan were as shocked as everyone else when he was taken that high but they used it as a feather in Jimbo's cap for recruiting. Anyone who actually watched his games knew that Jimbo dumbed down the offense for him and that he was average at best. This should shock no one accept his fanboy club.

I don't understand what folks don't understand about the EJ pick.

The team needed a potential franchise guy to groom, since they hadn't attempted to draft one in nearly a decade. It wasn't a great year for franchise QB prospects, so they did the smart thing, traded down for extra picks, and then took the guy with the most physical tools (size, athleticism, arm, intelligence, work ethic, etc.).

What is so confusing about that?

Because he wasn't good maybe? You take a prospect with long term potential in the 3rd or 4th round, not the first. Why is that so confusing?

  2. Significantly? I wouldn't call going from 1600 yds to 1300 yds significant. His ypc was still above league average as well. He went from leading the league in rushing to third in the league. That's with Kelly taking him out of games, and injuries along the Eagles offensive line. I also believe his statistics, if that's what's important to you, improved as the season went along, and again, that's with him being removed from games in favor of Sproles. I'll take Shady's "down" year from any RB, in any year and be happy.

Yes significantly. He had the same amount of carries as the year before but 300 less rushing yards. He also had 400 less receiving yards (ypr dropped 5 yds) which dropped his total production by a full third on 28 less touches YoY. His TD total also plummeted from 11 to 5. If that isn't significant I don't know what is.

You can chalk it up to less touches but he's expected to be the work horse here in a downhill offense and he doesn't have Sproles behind him here. Also, If you think his Oline was bad in Philly what do you think he has in Buffalo?

He's clearly not handled leaving Philly well. If the Bills don't have the season that everyone is dreaming of I would bet that he becomes more of a distraction than a leader.

  3. If Shady wasn't a Bill everyone defending him would have a huge problem with his mouth. I guess I've had enough of big mouths like Buddy Nix and Lil Donte and I just want to see results. You'd think a guy who's production went down significantly last year would find a way to humble himself but I guess not. I never liked this trade and I'm finding it hard to root for another big mouth who hasn't produced in a Bills uniform.

  4. how is inaccuracy a result of how he was used? Serious question as I didn't watch him in college.

Might of been the way that I wrote it. His struggles with reading defenses had a lot to do with the way Beamer asking him to make plays with his feet instead of standing in the pocket and reading the defenses. FWIW, he was awesome at it.

His inaccuracy was an issue throughout his college career but he improved a ton his senior year.

  5. I guess it's better than a busted tie rod.

I watched Tyrod quite a bit in college and the one thing he does is make plays. He's amazing when he gets out of the pocket and has a rocket arm. His accuracy wasn't great and he didn't read the field well but I'll chalk that up to how Beamer used him. Hopefully a few years behind Flacco and some great offensive coaching he's learned something. I really think he starts.

  6. This is my favorite time of the year.

    -The Bills draft poorly again

    -The "Draft Gurus" are honest

-Bills fans are outraged at the poor draft grades proclaiming that "these people are dumb"

-The Bills miss the playoffs again

    -Rinse,wash, repeat

  7. Buddy Nix was a terrible GM. The teams record was awful under his regime. His coaching picks were awful too. The 2010 draft was one of the worst in NFL history. Invested 60 million dollars into a career backup QB. He was a big mouth who telegraphed every move. He drafted EJ. He was a joke and anyone who says any different is not paying attention.

  8. 2 yr, 10 mil

He does not have off field issues. One arrest, DUI in Sea, which was cleared.

Forced his way out of Minnesota, because he wanted a raise, which based on his play, he was due. Didn't get along with some teammates in Sea, namely Golden Tate and Russell Wilson, who by all accounts appear to be a giant douchebags, moreso Tate than Wilson. Other teammates, like Lynch, had no problem with him.

He has an aggressive personality, sure, but it's not like he's an off the field problem guy.

Jerry Hughes got in arguments with coaches last year and was street racing with Dareus and we just gave him $40 mil.

I'm okay with the signing but you might want to do some homework on the guy. He had major problems in high school, college and the nfl. They dont always have to be "off field" problems. The dude is one of the most talented athletes on the planet and if teams didn't think was an idiot he would've been the first player signed in FA.
