  1. My honest assessment is as follows: Troup barely played until the second half of the season. Our run defense didnt improve any when he was in. When he was in, he had troule holding his ground agaisnt 1 blocker let alone two, and he didnt get down the LOS at all. I didnt see him lined up as a 3-4 NG much at all, because out D barely came out in a 3-4 when he finally was getting reps. On last seasons performance I see no reason to think why he will develop into a starting caliber 34 NG, other than he is young and everyone has a chance. I am not passing on a great DL prospect because we drafted Troup last year. Carrington played very very little. He was inactive during games, when John McCargo was active. Exo Facto the Bills thought Carrington was worse than McCargo. it took Dwan Edwards getting injured to get Carrington his first live action. He came in v Pittsburg and instantly showed he was pretty darn good. I think he had a sack on his 2nd or third play, and a QB hit the play right before or after. The following week the Bills barely played him. this continued for the rest of the season. I cannot figure out why he wasnt starting after that Pitt game, maybe he wasnt playing within his role? Who knows. Carrington looks like the next Jim Leonard/J. Greer/Fred Jackson in that he plays great when he is in but the bills staff doesnt play him for some reason and when they finally get a chance they are darn good. I have some hope for Carrington, but I would not pass on DL prospects because of him. We need depth if Carrington can one day be a starter Moats was very good. I really like his play. he was strong v the run setting the run and forcing plays inside. He generated a good pass rush when he had his chances. I think he could be our Lamarr Woodly. I expect him to be the best pick of his class. I guess what I am saying is a fully expect him to "develop". Even assuming all these guys pan out, that gives us 1 good LB and 3 good Dlineman (including KW). That means we still need D lineman and LBs. Please draft a lot of them (good ones, and not VMiller)
  2. that scenario has an even higher chance of happening if they play and stink (they being Newton/Gabbert/Ponder/whoever). Could be a Clausen like scenario. I dont think they start over Fitz, but if I am taking a QB at 3 I dont want him riding pine I want him starting from day 1. I dont see us draft 1 but top 5 for sure. I dont like this crop of QBs, just dont. I guess we should consider future drafts but its too much to predict. On this class alone I wouldnt target any QB. Id be more inclined to swing a trade out of 3 and add 2012 picks than target a QB this year. The problem is this CBA deal though. worst. timing. ever.
  3. Draft ability, rounds 1-3 Average Bills fan>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bills FO Draft ability, round 4-7 and UDFA Bills FO>Average Bills fan.
  4. I love the USC Jordan as well. He looked great in the combine drills and is a BBall player. With the success of those guys recently id like to add him (round 5 perhaps?). I also like Stocker a lot and heard Rudolf is good. I don’t think Gailey is a big TE guy though.
  5. If we take Gabbert then it’s pretty obvious that Buddy Chan in planning on him being our Franchise QB. In that case I do not want him sitting on the bench for a year “learning” behind Fitz. I want him starting from day 1 of training camp. You can only learn one third of the game from watching on the sideline. Maybe one half if you are an optimist. The rest needs to be learned in game action. Play the kid from day 1 and see what he’s got. If he struggles like hell then pull him for a few weeks in and let him watch from the sideline – that’s how you learn something, struggle through it, sit a few plays out and see what the coach is saying, then go back in a much better player after the game has slowed down for you a bit. I would understand if Newton or Kaepernack were held out for a while because I don’t believe they could even call a play in the huddle, but Gabbert or Dalton or Ponder, they should start day 1 no questions asked.
  6. I would have loved to beat a good team like the steelers, and I tend to be a higher pick will help us guy. I am hoping we don’t draft Peterson or Miller and a couple others. While I admit getting a higher pick should help us get better, this year ir would have almost been better for us to be outside the top 5 and take a Cam Jordan or something.
  7. Did anyone see the Gruden QB camp think? When Newton was on the field throwing in drills, he looks like a manchild. He is huge and ripped and can zip the ball like crazy (he was real tight and stiff in his drops though). But in the film room and on the board he can across very simple and basic. When he was breaking down the one TD pass he seemed to be over analyzing a very simple misdirection play. In short he seems to be the most physically gifted QB maybe ever, but doesn’t have the mental understanding of the position in NFL terms. A guy like that could take 3-4 years to learn the game, and in 3-4 years he still may not know it. Nothing new that hasn’t been discussed, but I still wouldn’t risk it at 3.
  8. After reading that PFT article about the QB camp with Gruden, it confirms what many have speculated. Newton has zero clue about offensive play calling. I wouldn’t touch this guy. Let someone else teach him to walk. I’m not waiting 3-5 years on the hope and dream that he can play QB. But, I can hear ole Ralph now….”draft for excitement, I need to sell tickets.”
  9. Well, this is the first extensive action I have seen of him (if you can call this extensive). I wasnt too impressed honestly. Judging from this video, Im definitely not taking him at 3, or before guys like Jordan and Watt, Carimi, and heck even Phil Taylor are off the board. I thought he was clearly game planned against, and beat double teams decently well, but didnt get to the QB. I didnt think he did much of anything when singled up. He had a pretty weak bull rush and didnt disengage from his defender. I think he only had 1 QB hit in that video, and even though Ponder got rid of the ball very quickly, he wasnt in a position to make a play if Ponder had held onto the ball. I feel like he will be a better fit as a LB than a DE though, because he is more athletic than strong, and would be better in space. I also think that what Dr. Dank says has some merit it is a Ponder highlight tape after all. Somebody counted and said there were 35 plays, if you check the stats Ponder had 40 pass attempts and took two sacks. Quinn only had 1 assisted tackle. He may have caused those other two sacks, but they werent shown, so who knows. Either way, I would want consistent pressure of every down from my 3rd overall pick. This is really just a weak LB class, and unfortunately we are pretty darn weak at LB. The guy I do really like on this team, is Kendrick Burney the CB. He had a few good reads you could see and played great at teh Sr Bowl.
  10. Denver will take Phil Taylor, Thanks Ramius
  11. If 3 of our first 4 picks cant stand on a scale together and have it register over 900 pounds I will be let down. The Bills should use that as a guideline to this draft.
  12. I know a lot of people like Quinn. I think he looks good but have only seen those 2 highlight tapes of him on Youtube. I was looking up Ponder clips and realised its the UNC game from 2009. Quinn is almost exclusively at right end, #42 and Austin is inside withthe dreads, #9 http://draftbreakdown.com/scouting-report-christian-ponder I know 1billsfan will like it
  13. because he is good he just needs to develop.
  14. I didnt say you did? I still disagree about the using his hands while rushing. I saw that video, the one on BB.com, and doesn't push the OT off on that second play, its more like a matador yelling Olay! as the clumsy Tackle runs by and falls over. Im a Texas fan. I watch most of their big games, including every Texas/Texas A&M game. I have seen him play. I saw the Cotton Bowl too. And a couple more when I heard he was a great draft prospect. I assume you didnt see the Cotton Bowl then, when he tried on about 60-70% of the plays. Thanks for the advice on my love life. My girlfriend doesn't have a washer/dryer at her apartment. Rather than going to a laundromat I let her use mine, as long as she does my wash too. Its an even trade.
  15. I would take that trade just for this 2nd rounder this year. So I will take the risk. Assuming they move up for a QB (newton or Gabbert), that means we would have the choice of Dareus, Watt, Jordan, Fairley, Miller, Peterson, Green, Jones, Quinn, or the other QB. Two would be left, among others like Amakumora, Carimi, etc. Who says you have to have one guy? Trading down and missing out on your guy could be a blessing in disguise. Knowing the Bills scouting history, I hope they DONT get their guy!
  16. Yes. I think at 34, we could been drafting the 2nd or 3rd best T in the entire draft (sherrod or Ijelana perhaps?). Its of my opinion that Solder and Costanzo both stink, but I fully believe they will go in the 1st round, along with Carimi (the best T) and Smith (did you guys know Smith only player RT in college? weird). isnt he like 6'4'', 270? Played LDE? I dont think he will make a great LB but FS!?!?!
  17. If the bolded were true I might agree with you and want Miller at 3, but I dont believe they are. In all the full games I watched on TV and all the youtube clips I could find and all the ESPN highlights I have seen I havent seen him fight off blocks one single time. Im not an NFL scout, I havent seen every play he has ever made, but I have seen him right off blocks and disengage from blocks exactly zero times. Considering the sample size I have seen I would have expected to see a lot mroe than zero. Other than that he simply doesnt go 100% on every play. Id estimate about 60-70% of the plays he tries and on the others he kind walks around - giving zero backside pursuit. The Cotton bowl this year is a perfect example of that. I also dont think he will hold up against the run. I dont think he has any power. This is not the type of player you take 3rd overall to play 34 rush LB. I think pass rushers in the NFL have to have a little bit of this in them, and If Maybin had a bit of this in him he might be able to get to the QB. I dont think Miller has any. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AglSpWWkGbE I have my girlfriend do my laundry and make me food for the game on Saturday
  18. Yea, our team has no talent and its such a high pick, whoever it is should be a day 1 starter. QB would be the only exception I guess, but I dont target a QB at all this year.
  19. I like Brooks Reed a lot actually, I would be pumped if we added him. But I still think there will be a player at another position who is better than him. I was just talking about his draft status. Like alst year, Spikes ran a 17 second 40 and he dropped like a rock. I still thought he was a great player and would have loved to draft him regardless, but that 40 hurt his stock, just like how I feel Reed will be hurt. He will get drafted, and go on to start and play well for some team regardless. I like the *idea* of Quinn, but havent seen him play so I am hesitant to endorse him too much. Havent seen Ayeers either. I like Herzlich a lot as a late round prospect inside. Sheppard will prob he a reach at our 2nd round pick but gone at our 3rd. He is good and I like him thoguh. Houston is solid too but not great, he tends to be great one plan, invisible the next. I think we will add a few late round guys again this year. This is just not a good year for LBs, what do you want me to say? This is a DL and OL draft. Its weak at LB, especailly rush LBs. Its weak at QB. Its deep at DB, but we should focus on that early IMO. I think we could add a starting DL, start OL, starting ILB in 3 of the first 4 rounds easily.
  20. To me Reed is very stiff and has limited athleticsm. I think this is going to hurt him on draft day. I would be supiresed if he goes in the top 40.
  21. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/04/16/colin-kaepernick-latest-prospect-invited-to-nfl-draft My guess is its the Raiders. They dont have a first round pick. Maybe they want to bet the farm and move up to the top of Round 2 for him? Too bad that leaves the Pats at the top of round 2 to trade out. If not the Patsies, maybe us. Looking at the chart, I dont think its worth it.
  22. Well, I didn't compare him to anyone. I clearly said I dont care about his weight, I care about his play (which is similar to Maybin - his pass rush anyways - and not Mathews or Phillips or Harrison). I simply stated that he has been packing weight on since the season ended and hasn't played any games at that weight. Maybe he can carry the weight, maybe he cant, again I dont care. I am worried about his speed rush and lack of anything remotely considered physical. Sure he could learn to be physical, but I dont think he has the mentality to be physical, because if he did, wouldnt he have played physical the past few seasons? Sure he could learn to fight off blockers, and grow stronger to be able to toss OTs around, but why gamble at #3 on a guy who hasn't shown any of those very very very important things in college, and expect him to do it in the NFL? Thats the kind of thinking that took Maybin (the huge ? that had to grow, had to get strong, have to learn pass rushing moves) over Orakpo (the complete package who needs nothing and is a PB player in his first year).
  23. I like his hair
  24. If I said "He throws like Tom Brady" or "He throws like Brett Favre" or "He throws like Tim Tebow" you would know what I mean and see the difference, yes? Well Von Miller rushes the passer like Aaron Maybin. Thats a huge similiarity that can not and should not be ignored. Now I will turn it around, what player in the NFL rushes the passer like Von Miller? I cant think of any (other than Maybin) off the top of my head. To all the size guys, I really dont care about his weight, I care about how he plays. He plays small. He was pushed around by TEs. Thats why I think he is small. Also, 237 at the Sr Bowl, 246 at Combine, 250 the other day at the Browns visit. thinking about that, and from seeing him on TV, my guess is that he played the last two seasons bewteen 225-230. He has played no football at 250, which some people also thought was a risk with Maybin.
  25. If we could trade up from 34 and lose only our extra 4th, then I would pretend to love Dalton and make the trade and take a starting RT in Carimi or a NG like Taylor and says "suckers!!!" to the Jets, who will likely be targeting those two players I named.
