That is precisely the way I would handle the draft Mark. Ther eis far too much turnover on any football team to assume "position X" is filled, so let's ignore superior 1st round talent and draft for a need prematurely. Now, I'm not saying the Ravens are the model NFL franchise - their coach is an assclown. But, they stay true to their board and draft guys like Lewis when Holmes is on the roster (keep in mind Holmes wasn't a superstar yet), Heap when Sharpe is there, etc... They end up with a ton of talent that gets mismanaged, but the talent is there. Draft superior players when you can and reduce your odds of getting burnt. With any luck, that star player will hang around for 8 years or more.

why is that? Just because you or I can't offer a translation doesn't mean Rubes or some sports medicine type can't offer a plain language explanation.

not keeping score at a very young age doesn't bother me... they should be learning skills anyway. There will (should) be plenty of time for true game competition when they get older. You can "play to win" w/o actually keeping score (i.e. try your hardest to score and prevent them from scoring). However, fundamentally changing the rules is utter bull sh--. A HR is just that - a HR. It is not a double. It is part of the skill set they should be learning. You can get everyone involved and still play "baseball" by it's fundamental rules.

the problem lies with the perception by many fans, myself included, that Levy WAS the quick fix. I have no confidence that any "foundation" has been laid at OBD. Nevermind OL's and DL's - the merry-go-round that is the coaching staff/GM only means the players chosen today will be shown the door tomorrow. It is hard to be patient when you get the feeling there is some clock with a quick alarm ready to buzz again in the near future...

Put it another way, how would you and the wife sleep at night if you lost this house over $3000 or about $20/month in a mortgage? If you would be kicking yourself in the ass, then offer what you need to to get the house... Of course, this depends on how long you plan to live there, if it is priced in line with comps, etc...

Could someone translate this mess? "Now, some of you may wondering, "What's up with the home teams wearing the dark jerseys?". Good question! The NHL has reversed the jerseys from now on, the dark jerseys are now the home jerseys, and vise- versa. This was the way the league had played from 1953 - 1970, they changed due to colour television. Fans wanted to see new colours every week (example, every Leafs game on HNiC was blue vs white). After the increased security in airports, and the introduction of alternate jerseys (in which all but 1 are dark), this led the NHL to switch 'em up. Teams always wanted to wear the alts at home, so road teams would have to bring their homes, and roads with them on plane trips. Problem solved!"

I'm not. I just find it irritating when people claim she wasn't any good/sucked, etc... when clearly she was a pretty good pro. Was she better than her contemporaries? Occasionally yes, consistently no. Did she receive attention disproportionate to her accomplishments? Absolutely... but whose fault is that?
