2008 has been a year of redemption for some...most notably, Robert Downey Jr. for "Iron Man".

But there is another, potentially bigger story out there in Mickey Rourke.

I haven't seen Mickey Rourke in a movie in years. But his performance in "The Wrestler" is generating all sorts of Oscar buzz and has already earned him a Golden Globe nomination. An Oscar nod is likely next.

I think what a movie like this shows us is, despite the fact that society has become increasingly bitter and unforgiving, there is still such a thing as redemption.

I've never been a huge wrestling fan (except for a brief fling in the mid-80s), but I'm planning on seeing this movie when it opens on January 16.

Mickey Rourke was also great in Sin city as Marv.

It's very good, I saw it. Rourke is fantastic in it. In some ways it's a very typical Rocky type movie and in some ways it's really not. I won't ruin it for anyone but I would be shocked if he doesn't get an Oscar nom for it. I have no interest in Wrestling at all but the wrestling scenes, and there are a ton of them, are interesting, graphic and good.

Best Picture- Frost/Nixon

Best Actor-Frank Langella

Best Actress- Merryl Streep

I have no desire to see Frost/Nixon & it's for a totally stupid reason. I just can't bear to listen to Frank Langella's impersonation of Nixon. It sounds so totally non-Nixonian to me that I can't bear to watch the film. IMO Langella should have gotten the mannerisms down and left it at that. I know it won't matter to the kiddies, but it bugs me.

Oh no! Nixon's not coming back with the smokes!

Best line in the trailer: both Rourke and Tomei's characters agreed that "the 90s sucked" as far as music was concerned.

Agree 100%. :w00t::lol:

I don't know if you have seen the movie but Langella is extremely good. I never really liked him as an actor but I think he was excellent in Frost/Nixon, and I wouldnt at all be surprised if he wins best actor. It's surely not enough to just mock a voice, and I agree it doesnt always sound like Nixon. But he was terrific at getting the intelligence, paranoia, loneliness, and competitive elements of Nixon in very subtle manners.

Sean Penn is ridiculously good in Milk.

He's pretty good at being a major league douche, too. That being said, I'm looking forward to seeing the film.
