Only Buffalo Can Do This . . .

It is surreal what Buffalo sports teams do to us poor fans. It never, EVER stops. The torture is beyond what any normal sports fans have to endure.

4-0 and 5-1 to 5-5??? Lose at home on Monday night to Cleveland in an absolute must win game?? Only in Buffalo can a team get off to a 4-0 start and be virtually eliminated by week 10. the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.

And the way it ended. Torture beyond imagination for fans of other teams. Complete emptiness.

Time to pick a new team to root for.

Watching two of the most unfortunate franchises in the NFL duke it out, you just knew it was going to be a heartbreaker one way or the other. The Browns have already had their share this year. But i was sure we'd take the title tonight and when Lindell lined up, it was a given that he'd miss. I don't even get as worked up as i used to over losses like this because i know it's coming. It's got to be some sort of cosmic practical joke. Someone, somewhere, in a place beyond our understanding, is laughing his ass off.

I had that distinct feeling too. Everyone was oddly quiet, dreading to be let down. Correcting the problem starts with admitting it. This is a loser city. Were the bills tonight as businesslike and professional as when the cowboys ripped my heart out and stomped on it during our last monday night game?

Although we finally did play with some fire tonight, especially on the offensive line. I havent seen peters run block like that in a year. Lynch was awesome. Freddy would not go down. Our defense was superb, despite the efforts of the refs.

The Bills are in that nowhere zone of NFL franchises - a hair better than the Cincinatti's and Detroits of the world, but certainly not even sniffing the playoff calibre teams...

I feel like I'm going to cry...seriously...

When things aren't going well in life sometimes, just sometimes you lean on your favorite football team to give you some happiness even if it is somewhat empty and doesn't last very long, it's still happiness and it just makes you so briefly forget all the other things in life that are bringing you down.

The Bills have gone this year from providing me that happiness with their start to reminding me how utterly depressing my life is...

Thanks Dick.

I'm man enough to admit I've shed tears over the Bills in the past, but this time I just took a walk home from my friends apartment in the snow in utter stunned silence.

I'll bet a lot of us have shed tears.

The only thing worse than being back home in WNY right now is being a Bills fan in the midst of smart-ass, smug Patriots* fans in New Hampshire. My in-laws, my co-workers, every third vehicle on the highway with a f*cking Patriots decal. When I go into work this morning, I'm going to get it full force. About a month ago, I started a staff meeting (every one of them a Pats* fan) by reminding people that the Bills were 5-1. Ouch.

Nobody circles the wagons like the Buffa...oh hell, the wagons are burning. I've been a fan for 43 years. Hard to stop now. When Mr. Wilson passes and we find out all the posturing about keeping the team in Buffalo by our former greats was just that, it'll be time to be an NFL fan. No more heartache, no more painful Sundays. Hell, I'll even save the money I'm wasting on Sunday Ticket.

Must win??

As Marv Levy said, "must wins" are overrated in life...World War II was a MUST WIN...and we were on the road too!"
