Hurricane Bertha is First of the 2008 Season

U.S. weather forecasters say Tropical Storm Bertha has strengthened into the first hurricane of the 2008 Atlantic season.

Hurricane Bertha is moving across the waters of the central tropical Atlantic Ocean.

Forecasters said Monday it is too early to determine if Bertha poses a threat to any land areas.

As of this Monday morning, Bertha had maximum sustained winds of nearly 120 kilometers-per-hour. Forecasters say some additional strengthening is expected during the next few days.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30.

Are the aquifers recharged?

The aquifers are good here in Central Va, but we got another problem we need taken care of. This fire in the Great Dismal Swamp is a real pain in the ass. Was at VA beach this weekend and dam smoke is just brutal.Accroding to the experts, only a tropical storm or hurricane might put it out.

Yea, thats what my Mother in law has been saying. She lives on 49th street, and we will be there quite a bit over the next two months. I have smelled it once here in Richmond, but was pretty close to the time it started, and not since then. Feel for you all down there, that is a right nasty smell
