who would you of drafted over MW in hindsight?

I keep reading how Mike is a bust, we blew that pick and we need to fix the offensive line. In hindsight who would you select? I am not a fan of Mckinnie- you can watch his stuff tonight. Ryan Sims was the guy I was campaigning for at the time of the draft and he has been solid. Roy Williams would be tremendous for us. Levi Jones or Dwight Freeney would be great. I like the Josh Reed pick in the second round but would of liked to have selected Lecharles Bentley in hindsight. Anyways I cannot fault the Mike Williams and Josh Reed picks at the time and I am not writing either off. A good QB would do wonders for both of them-

I agree but neither helps our offense or oline. Thats why you never draft for need you always select the best value on the board IMO

no way in hell. dwight freeney, john henderson, or roy williams. hell, even ed reed or albert haynesworth.

 

Mike Williams is a 2nd round guard. He doesn't have the feet to be a great RT, and you need your #4 overall picks to be GREAT, or you've failed in the selection.

 

Mike's a good kid. He'll never be GREAT.

Trade down, no question. I think that's usually the way to go, too. My best guess is that the Bengals would have given something to move down (to take the top tackle instead of the third), say, a second rounder. Then the Bills snag Freeney at 10, and trade the #4 in the second round to the Patriots for Bledsoe (I wouldn't do that now, of course, but I think it would have made sense then). With the Bengals pick, we take LeCharles Bentley.

 

Then, in 2003, we still make the Price trade, and move up in the first round to take Byron Leftwich.

Trading down was not an option. Donahue tried to trade down but there were no suitors. In todays game with the salary cap it is damn near impossible to trade out of a top 5 slot. Noone wants the cap ramifications and there are no sure things.

I responded to a post like this awhile ago. I stand by my thoughts then and now. I felt back in 2002 and now that McKinnie would have been the better pick. However in retrospect, one guy that I feel might have been worthy of our selection was DT John Henderson. As he might be as good if not better then Sam Adams is now. Of course it still give us a hole on the O-line unless we took someone like LeCharles Bentley with our 2nd Round pick to play C and could of let Teague play at LT. The question would remain if we would still trade up would we still take Denney or possibly a WR like A. Bryant, A. Randle El, D. Branch? Or possibly not traded up and end up with a WR Cliff Russell in Round 3 and a DE like Alex Brown in Round 4.
