Does being number 1 in rushing matter if every team that plays us averages even MORE rushing yds?

Davis was their big nickel as recall followed by Shaq Thompson. Kuechly yeah HOFer type LB, we definitely not seen that since days of London Fletcher.

I push back a little on this. Hard to say how much a decent rushing attack can soften things. It doesn't need to be about getting completely gashed for 60 minutes. This isn't the 70's. But 5 yards a pop really hurts in the playoffs. We are 4-1 when we don't allow 125 rushing yards. The only loss being our first AFC championship game. We are 3-5 when we allow 125+. Which was basically every KC game outside of that one, the Bengals game, and the Texans game. In several of those games we had couldn't get teams off the field and the run defense was part of it.

the dude was barely 5'11 and played with so much power and intensity.  Takeo Spikes and Chris Spielman also stand out in my mind.  I don't think they would fit what McDermott tries to do on Defense, but what great players.  Sam Cowart was another, but his career was derailed with the achilles injury like Spikes.  Spielman with the neck issues.  I guess it comes with the territory. Still miss that type of linebacker.

Texans are 23rd in rush yards per game. 

 

Tonight will show us how much our own run D benefits the opposition.
