Oh for sure, they have guns for a good reason.

He could of just got out of the way.

He could have indeed, but let's play that out. Imagine he gets out of the way and she runs a toddler over in that crowded supermarket parking lot while fleeing.  Are you going to tell me you wouldn't blame the police for that? I bet many would.

Honestly, I don't think you could pay me enough to be a police officer in this country.

I tell you what leh-nerd.

Why don't you ask tibsy why the victim in the Charlottesville car attack didn't just "get out of the way."

.

The interesting part is that I supported the officer in the Babbitt situation all things considered.  The guy shows up for work, finds himself in a complete cl#sterf#ck of a situation and all hell breaks loose. He makes a snap decision in a pivotal moment that changed the lives of many people, certainly including his own.   Still, it’s not disputed that she was unarmed, he certainly didn’t see a weapon, and all other things being equal, there was no scuffle for a gun or whatever.  I wonder if he thinks back and wishes he could have de-escalated.

However, for Tibs, in a case where a lunatic is trying to run a police officer over with their car, he wants the officer to go to jail for manslaughter.  I’m even in agreement that upon reflection and with cooler heads prevailing, maybe there is something to be learned from all this.  I’d bet more than anything that the officer wishes it went down differently, but that’s a different discussion.

A friend attended a training seminar where they take an individual through various seminars simulating an officer walking/through and clearing a building.  The idea is some people are hostile, others friendly, and it’s designed to help officers make the right decisions in stressful situations.  The word is most fail the exercise (and certainly most civilians who go through it).  They make the wrong call, “trust” the wrong people and often end up “dead” or having dispatched the wrong people.

You most definitely could not pay me to do the work.

Oh for sure, but he wasn't hurt. She should of gone to jail for her behaviour but not of gotten blasted like that. Though, I get it, but cops need to calm people down, and try has hard as possible to de-esclate

Truly correct me if I am wrong but you are saying that someone trying to kill a cop is granted immunity until they injured the cop?

Ashley Babbitt was not in a car, not armed, and was shot and killed by a law enforcement officer who did not de-escalate.  Thoughts on that situation relative to this one?

Come on, you know that situation is just slightly different ...

Sure, but Tibs was ruminating about officers calming down and de-escalating.    That was an option for the officer who shot AB, yes?
