1. Woman works at a university (not a professor). Posts the following on her private Facebook:

“If you think Charlie Kirk was a wonderful person, we can’t be friends.”

One of her followers screenshots it. It winds up on Libs of Tik-Tok. University gets wind of it. She's fired.

2. University of South Dakota art professor posts the following on his social media:

“I don’t give a flying f*** about this Kirk person,” Mr, Hook wrote. “I wasn’t paying close enough attention to the idiotic right fringe to even know who he was.” He added: “I’m sorry for his family that he was a hate spreading Nazi and got killed. I’m sure they deserved better.”

Three hours late he deletes it an apologizes. Too late. The Governor of South Dakota - the Governor - decides to get involved. Calls for his firing. And gets it.

I don't love it, I find it hypocritical to an extent. You should be able to be allowed to say what you want without fear of reprisal, but employment contracts in the internet age have subtly stolen that right from average Americans.  I blame lawyers, mostly.

In reality though, I think a lot of folks on the right feel that their side has been way more often than not on the losing side of this experience, and think that turnabout is fair play.

I also think that we should probably stop calling everyone we disagree with a Nazi, as it dilutes the power of the word and lessens the memory of the holocaust.

Commie too, but that one carries much softer connotations  for me (I actually am friends with one, misguided but a good dude).

I also really hate to see people on both sides cutting off friends and family over politics. I think it's the result of the political class duping the populace into loating each other instead of them.

 But what do I know?

The "it's time to mandate vaccines" guy who created a thread here in the midst of people getting fired for refusing to take a vaccine for a friggin respiratory virus (people who said nothing at all on social media, let alone extremely insensitive and inflammatory rhetoric) has thoughts.

The moral of the story is its more fun to kick somebody else in the balls than to have them kick you!
