Joe Ferguson forever Posted September 24 Posted September 24 This is not about one particular issue. It's about absolutes. Are there any? Does logic exist? Does truth exist? Is it important? We all use logical fallacies in our arguments, some more than others. But would it be preferable to avoid them or not purposefully use them at all? I think there are absolutes and that logic exists and is vital towards the search for truth which we all should want. https://academicinfluence.com/inflection/study-guides/logical-fallacies#tu-quoque A common fallacy deployed here lately has been "everyone does it so it's ok for he/me to do it". I think this is a variation on #7 in the above link. Ad hominems, appeals to authority, straw men and non sequiturs are in abundance here as well, from both sides.. Would it make for better debate if we tried to avoid these? Or is that unrealistic or simply wrong? 1 1

It’s the same person that wanted people to believe that he went to school with Susan Collins. 1 1

It seems obvious to me.

BillsFanNC Posted September 24 Posted September 24 How can there be objective truth with all these cheap fakes?

B-Man Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Yes. Truth exists. John 14:6: "Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me". In this statement, Jesus identifies Himself as the absolute truth and the only means of reaching God 1

I’m sorry, but your dishonesty combined with your hysterical nature, racist tendencies, and homophobia make it such that you are not to be taken seriously. That’s all on you. I’m sorry if I’m laughing at your attempt at a high-minded thread. Edited September 24 by JDHillFan 2

We could make the entire forum into a logical exercise. wouldn't that be fun! Edited September 24 by Joe Ferguson forever

Didn't expect we'd be getting all existential on this random hump day on the PPP board. Am I a butterfly dreaming I'm a man? Or a bowling ball dreaming I'm a plate of sashimi? 2

Buddy I'm all about objective reasoning, to the extent we mere mortals are capable of it. Personally I'm of the belief that subjective bias makes absolute truth almost impossible- so all we can do is to strive to be as close as we can. But if the last 10+ years have taught me anything- it's that most of mainstream academia, news media and the medical-industrial complex certainly doesn't hold themselves to that standard anymore (if they ever did?). If you think you're going to find that standard on a random football message board, I don't know what to tell you. But if you'd like to get the ball rolling, by all means... show us the way. 2
BillsFanNC Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Be the change Quack! If not in the cesspool of PPP, then where? 😂 1
