Tariffs and protectionism stifle innovation. This is a simple economic fact. Correct. If American made is so great, it should win out in the market place. They don't win in the marketplace because we can't pay our workers slave wages. If tariffs are so bad, how come every other country uses them to promote domestic growth?

Costs of living are much lower in other countries. “Slave wages” appear as such to you because our cost of living is much higher. It’s perfectly adequate in other places. Tariffs should be abolished in every nation. They don’t promote domestic growth, they prevent citizens from enjoying the free market.
BillsFanNC Posted yesterday at 02:07 PM Posted yesterday at 02:07 PM Is this the thread where I'm supposed to post about short term volatile market rallies as if they mean anything in regard to policy or the long term administration agenda? Or do we only do that when market is down? 1

How is using kids for labor not considered slave labor? And economics disagrees with your tariff stance completely. 1

Yeah, we might have goods made in America, but they’ll be low-quality clones of good brands in the same was Optima was a clone of Olympia typewriters, or Zenit was a low-quality clone of Leica. No innovation, no competition. There will be no incentive to make goods better for the consumer because firms are artificially propped up by the government. What a terrible way to live. To quote you from earlier this week; “quit with the hysterics”.

K D Posted yesterday at 02:17 PM Posted yesterday at 02:17 PM My lib friend said we are in a recession because of Trump. I've not seen recessions where jobs are way up and the price of everything is decreasing. I keep hearing how Trump wiped out everyone's retirement fund. My stocks are up I don't know what you guys are investing in.

Im a free trade absolutist, it is what it is. If you want an economy like the USSR, go heavy on protectionism and enjoy more expensive, worse quality goods.

Well I guess I'm just not the style aficionados that you well-to-do folks are here. In the case of designer clothes like Lauren, you're paying for the label, not the shirt. With the intent to project an image of sophistication and wealth. Its what us common folks call "snob appeal". 1

I wear clothes mostly from target now. I don't need to wear formal or semi formal clothes very often anymore. But when I do, I wear nice stuff. A suit from Penny's or Sears stands out like a sore thumb and shouts "loser" to your colleagues.
