Packers defense not among NFL's elite

By Sal Maiorana - D&C

Players and coaches always say the film doesn't lie, and Monday night for the Bills, their flat screens didn't lie, either.

Normally, the film of the upcoming opponents' most recent game is available for the Bills to begin studying by Monday morning if they so choose. But because Green Bay played Atlanta in the final game of Week 14, the only way for the Bills to get an early peek was to watch the game on ESPN.

Several said they did, and two truths were plainly evident during the Packers 43-37 victory:

Playoffs on line in home finale, and 5 things to watch in Bills' Week 15 game against Packers

-8e33dc591c80d989.jpg

Nothing about 2014 has been normal for the Buffalo Bills.

First, the Bills had to start the season without founder and late owner Ralph Wilson, who passed away in March. By October, Terry and Kim Pegula had taken control of the franchise, and the Bills were enjoying more success than usual. Throw in a quarterback change, a record-setting snowstorm that forced the Bills to play in Detroit and the fact that the Bills won seven games before December, and 2014 has been an eventful season.

Now the Bills are playing a meaningful home game in December against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. And for as different as 2014 has been for the Bills, if the last three weeks don't go their way, the franchise's league-high, 15-year playoff drought will continue, and it will be hard to think of the 2014 team as anything but the same old Bills.

Buffalo will get a sellout crowd at Ralph Wilson Stadium. It will have the rest of the country paying attention because the Packers are one of the best teams in the NFL. The Bills' home finale has a different feel going in, but whether it has a different feeling coming out will tell the story of the 2014 Bills.

News now! Eddie Lacy probable for Sunday in Buffalo

Packers RB Eddie Lacy has been very limited in practice this week due to a hip injury but is expected to play on Sunday in Buffalo. He’s being listed as probable on the injury report.

“He’s getting better,” Head Coach Mike McCarthy said on Friday. “He did the strength and conditioning work, and all the other work in that area today. He’s making progress and hopefully he can practice tomorrow.”

Packers facing stern challenge in Buffalo

Bills defense has rankings to rival Seattle, Detroit

Twice before in this season, the Packers have faced an opponent with the kind of defensive rankings the Bills will take into Sunday’s game: at Seattle and at Detroit. The results of those games underscore the challenge the Packers will be facing in Buffalo.

“They’re solid everywhere. Inside they’re powerful, outside they have quickness on one side and quickness and size on the other. They’re a challenge,” Offensive Coordinator Tom Clements said of what his unit will face in Week 15 of the season.
