Tom Brady has been the Superbowl MVP twice. He has played big in big games. The Pats are on the cusp of winning their 3rd Superbowl in 4 years. I say the Pats dont win any Superbowls with Drew and there is no dynasty

Drew can't perform in big games. He proved it in NE and he has proved it hear with the Pittsburgh game. I don't care how good your coach and coordinators are, if the guy taking snaps can't get the job done, there will not be success.

Frankly, we wouldn't have sniffed the playoffs in '01, and I'm not sure the '03 team was good enought to survive Bledsoe.

Weren't the Pats 0-2 and losing to the Jets when Drew was hurt in 2001 ?

Brady is the difference. Bledsoe would have gotten Belechick fired and the Pats never would have made the big game.

Kinda like how we were 0-4 and then wound up winning 9 of the next 12 games?

Remember, the team was completely revamped in '01. Almost everyone was new. The argument could be used that the team started gelling after the first few weeks, kinda like what happened here.

There's no way to prove anything one way or another, so it's all just speculation at this point.

If it were not for a good FG kicker, NE would not have won two SB. One could argue that Brady put them in a position to kick the FG. However, the bottom line is if they were missed we would not be having this discussion.

Exactly. I also really don't think Brady desrved MVP for the first Superbowl, but he won it only because it was a good story. He only threw for 145 yards and a TD; hell, Bledsoe has games better than that and he's critisized for not "carrying" the team by throwing for 300 yards. Brady does it, and he gets Superbowl MVP. :w00t:

A. Smith averaged 5.1 ypc on 18 carries (he should've been MVP in my opinion). Ty Law had an interception for a TD. Their kicker made the clutch kick at the end of the game (although the score was tied at that point). What'd Brady do? One TD, and a couple of field goals, a similar performance to what Bledsoe did in the AFC Championship game. The only difference was that Pittsburgh had an awesome defense, and the Rams didn't. Yet again, Bledsoe is bashed around here for his performance in the Steelers game, whereas Brady gets the MVP...

Go figure.

My sense is that the key (if one must choose one key) is that they play and are a TEAM. You can see the import of this from their introduction of stars at the 2001 season SB when they introduced themselves as a team rather than as individuals within a unit to the current model which is descibed by Troy Brown playing both ways like an athlete rather than as an offensive or WR specialist.

A key for this team was the injury to Bledsoe which brought them together as a TEAM sucking up for and backing up the young Brady. In terms of strategy, though BB was disappointed in and heading toward moving beyond Bledsoe, the injury made their O far less pass-happy and they began to perform more efficiently when they relied upon the whole O rather than on one extraordinary but flawed arm.

I don't think they would have won any SBs with Drew and ironically might not have won the second if the team hadn't pulled together to get over BB's horrendous handling of the Milloy situation because a ton of bad injuries like Colvin's forced them to do a gut check and come together.

I can't believe that more people think NO than YES. Duh, of course New England would have won with Drew Bledsoe, just as much as with Tom Brady perhaps.

1st- It was Drew Bledsoe that beat Pittsburgh to send them to the first Superbowl (not Tom Brady). Bledsoe was spectacular in that game, and single-handedly beat a Pittsburgh team that was beating the Patriots until Brady left.

2nd- Brady did NOT... I repeat, did NOT have a lot to do with the Superbowl wins either. Most overrated MVP EVER!!! Remember, it was all Viniateri. Sure, Brady didn't blow it... and there you may possibly have an argument against Bledsoe.

3rd- Bledsoe is a very streaky quarterback. When he is confident, he is one of the best in the league (yes better than Brady). It is when he loses his confidence, that he is nothing less than terrible. The Patriots, and their genius coaches, would have had Bledsoe keep his confidence, and he would have played supremely well.

Yeah, except for that pesky little fact that Brady didn't try to turn the ball over every 8 minutes in the SB like Drew did 4 times in his 32 minutes of the AFC titletilt.

But it's really not that big a deal since QB's who refuse to take care of the ball often win big games regardless of how many turnovers they create..... :w00t:

Give us a call and compare the two when Brady starts spinning circles in the pocket with the ball dangling off his hip and then starts throwing it up for grabs when he displays his extra sensory powers by sensing pressure after he's been wearing a LB for a mere 1.4 seconds.

What a bunch of crap! OMG how many times do we need to discuss that Pittsburgh game? When Brady got hurt the Pats were up 7-0. The Pats had two special teams TDs. The Pats offense with Drew had 1 TD. Please explain to me how Drew singlehandedly beat the Steelers? :w00t:

Brady played great in the the Superbowls. The Superbowl MVP is based on one game. Yes Viniteri hit the kick in the championship but Brady played great in every superbowl. He is a big game player, unlike Drew.

Drew better then Brady  Put down teh crack pipe!:D:doh:

Oh look, Pete [thinks he's] right... again.... And belittles anyone who doesn't share his opinions, errr, facts.

This is Brady's statline in the first Superbowl:

Brady 27 16 145 1 0

That's "great?" Umm, ok...

And say what you will, but Bledsoe got the win in the AFC Championship game (regardless of what reporters want to write about Brady's 8-0 playoff record). A QB can't get a win for playing less than a quarter and being up 7-3 with a final score of 24-17.

It's also getting old hearing about all the "almost" inteceptions he threw. I never realized that was an NFL stat... :w00t:

I've pretty much given up on the subject. Some people are just incapable of judging what they see with their own two eyes. They are simply more comfortable gobbling up whatever storyline the media is dishing out at the time. That week's shlt on a shingle happened to be "Injured QB gives heroic effort", so regardless of the fact that Drew stunk it up baaaaaad that day, all they're going to remember is whatever their media icons told them to remember.

He came off the bench and won the freak'n AFC Championship game. Nobody's saying he played the best game a QB has ever played in the league. But he WON THE DAMN GAME. God, when Flutie was "winning" games, everyone here was on their knees saying "He's a deity, he just always finds a way to win!!!!" When Bledsoe finds a way to win, it's "not pretty," "he didn't have anything to do with it," "dropped interceptions won the game for him." The double standards are *amazing.*

Not sure what a bunch of Canuckleheads massaging Flutie has to do with me?

I thought Doug played like hell for most of his tenure in Buffalo and said so at the time. Just like I said at the time that Drew played like hell in that AFC championship game. So forgive me for thinking that your reply to me has nothign to do with me.

Actually, the bright eyes above said "Bledsoe was spectacular in that game, and single-handedly beat a Pittsburgh team that was beating the Patriots until Brady left."

Additionally it was also the Patriots who won the game, not your hero.
