I don't think actual progressives wanted anything like the bill we got. Just my opinion.

I'm certain of this. I've never met a lib or progressive who did't really want single payer.

It's like the stimulus, where the problem progressives had with it was that it simply wasn't large enough.

I started getting more involved in this stupid fight the very moment these two truths became obvious even to me. That's why, for all the yapping I get from liberals about being a right-wing partisan hack, the one thing you'll never see me doing is yelling that Obama is a Socialist or Marxist. As far as I'm concerned, he's more of hamstrung progressive, which you could argue is worse simply because NO ONE takes progressives seriously except other progressives. Even Socialists and Marxists don't take progressives seriously. They're like Igor in "Young Frankenstein." Good to move your bags around and get a laugh or two, but do you really want him running things?

Blucher!

Sure. Go back and edit your original lame slovenly crafted original post and then call my response to that slice of shite - lame.

Typical revisionist historian.

I didn't know you were even talking about that. I noticed I forgot a word and changed it. Settle down guy!

So, what is it, do you like single payer or the government competing with the private sector? The bill, as written now, will eventually eliminate private sector health insurance. How do you think the government will do without any competition?

I guess you struggle with reading. I said I want a single payer system.

POLLING showed Americans wanted the government to compete with the private sector.

No, it depended on the wording, if the word "government" was used , the polling went way down. There were many variations of the same question worded differently that got various results, most of them tested unpopular. Let's just apply some logic, if it had been popular, ( which it wasn't) then wouldn't of the president pushed for it harder?

And let's be real, we know that the private sector can't compete with the government. Government can subsidizes losses at the expense of the tax payers ( for progressives this works just fine, because that means wealthier folks) running endless deficits, whereas the private sector doesn't have that luxury, in the real world that is called a "loss" and in the real world losses means companies closing down.

So in effect the public option would of eventually had a crowding out effect of the private sector health insurance companies which in turn would of dramatically expanded the size of government, which of course would of led to two things, higher deficits and higher taxes ( which for progressives would of been just dandy because wealthier folks would have been on the hook)

Agreed on the bolded. The poll I just looked up from the NYT showed Americans in favor of public vs. private competition. But when the word "single-payer" is used, the vote swings the other way.

The public option probably would have changed the discussion a whole lot. Now, the private insurance companies are making out very nicely with the individual mandate.

I don't want to argue over this with you based on nuance. You mentioned that Americans were in favor of competition between public and private and I took that as you backing them up. It doesn't matter, the Supremes are going to eviscerate the bill.

The Private Sector would whip any Government run system on a level playing field

Problem is that Government can print, borrow, and tax into perpetuity and therefore does not need to run an efficient model.

Plus Government makes the rules and regulations which of course will be favorable to the Government run system

Kinda like when Tom Brady gets sacked, looks at the ref, and makes that little toss the flag gesture because Brady had his feeling hurt so he gets 15 yards and a 1st down

We can debate the tenents of national socialism all we want, but anyone who wants the government to compete with the private sector is a special kind of stupid. That's like saying Roger Goodel should compete with the owners.

Edit: Actually it's worse, I just can't think of an analogy that does this idiocy justice.

There isn't one.

Best part? The majority of government work is outsourced to the private sector. To save money. :w00t:
