NEXT!!! Come on Buddy lets spend big and get this defense fixed and make it a STRENGTH....."Git er done!!!"

I can't believe I just said that.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/16/raiders-tell-wimbley-hes-being-released/

I'm going to go ahead and put a lid on the Kam Wimb man love that's been going on here.

A good buddy of mine, life long Raiders fan, spent about a half decade in Buffalo/Rochester, adopted Bills as his second favorite team.

He's a legitimate Raiders first, Bills second fan. Follows the Bills, "gets" the Bills, roots for the Bills, except when they play Oakland.

He had this to say about Wimbley:

"He'd definitely help. He's a good rusher and he's decent in pass rcoverage. Only has one good move when blitzing though. Does this dip move and once defenses figured it out he was shut down. He'd definitely help Buffalo though." ***

***Note, this conversation happened prior to the Williams signing.

He went on to say:

"He's above average but not worth the coin he's going to get. Heard he's a team cancer, too."

not a fit now - we got big money committed at DE and merriman/kelsey/carrington/batten on the depth chart as well.......got no prob with a top pick being committed there, but the money can be better spent upgrading another position

Suffice to say, he represents some of the DE FA talent left now. And with such a significant drop off after MW, you better believe this guy's going to get paid WAY more than he's worth...

I don't know that anyone can put a "lid" on anything but he is a player. We are looking for good talent on this team. We need an OLB. If he can provide his "one move" as a pass rusher in the 4-3 and get us 5 sacks. I'll take it! I haven't followed the guys career what so ever and I'm playing a little fantasy football here but it seems like the guy would be a welcome addition. Partially because it would make my prediction come true that we get Mario Williams and Kamerion Wimbley. LOL. I started a thread regarding whether we had the cap space to get both. We got Mario! If we get Wimbley I'm 2 for 2.

As for being a team cancer? I haven't heard that but if he is that makes him less attractive. Was it him or was it the team environment?

I'm sure he will command some money but we generally don't over pay. Personally I don't think we over paid for Mario Williams but many national pundits think we did. We aren't known for over paying and if he is looking to get over paid it won't happen here that is for sure.

What I AM thinking is that we have a little bit of a buzz literally and figuratively. We could sell the guy on what we are building here and maybe get him at fair market value. I think we have the cap space given the real numbers I have heard regarding Mario Williams' hit against this year's cap and we have at least $10 million bare minimum we could cut from this roster to get a difference maker.

Dream big!

barnett is going to see tons of snaps. shep is going to see tons of snaps. how many snaps does that leave for a 3rd LB? about 1/3 by my count. we'll be in nickel and dime plenty. i don't see the point in spending a ton of money on a 3rd LB when you can't offer him every down time. draft pick to push morrison makes sense, but a big ticket free agent makes none.

Actually that is a good point!

We DO play nickel a lot but perhaps we might not need to play as much with a healthy front line bolstered by Mario. Wimbley can drop back and cover well I have heard. That could allow us to stay in our base defense more, support the run which is our biggest problem on defense second only to our inability to rush the passer which he also does well.

not gonna pay him all that money to cover - he's a pass rusher, that's what he does well, round peg, square hole

spend a top pick there, can always use the depth and someone to build with going forward, but don't need to reach in free agency any more then the draft.........let's get levitre/byrd/jackson locked up, add some depth at LT, money can be spent in a lot of different ways

I believe he was making 11 million in Oakland and they cut him because he wasn't willing to take a pay cut. The only way we would be able to get him is if he took a paycut which if he didn't for Oakland he won't for us. That being said id love to have him.

We need more than depth at LT. We need a guy that can start, play on an island and stay healthy. For our needs I think he is a fit. He's a LB it's not like we won't ever send 5 pass rushers. His ability to cover is a bonus not what he would do full time. It just gives us options out of what would be our base defense is all I'm saying.

We still have cap space even considering signing rookies and re-uping guys. We could cut at least $11 million in salaries with the guys we need to get rid of already. We've got 3-4 DEs and 3-4 LBs that will be out of place in the 4-3. I think we could easily make room and keep the promising young talent we are developing.
