4-1 i'll take it

Recommended Posts

I wasn't a Bills fan back in the early 90's, but I am fairly certain that this Buffalo team is something that Buffalo has never seen and is out to prove a point this season. We have something special on our hands and we will go as far as Chan can take us. We may not be flashy, but we get the job done, and at the end of the day that is all that matters.

GO BILLS!!!

I must say that even though our defense couldn't stop the Little Sisters of the Poor without a turnover and Chan's play calling has me scratching my head sometimes, I am very proud of what this team has been able to accomplish. They are playing very hard and making big plays at critical times.

Although the stats maybe didn't show it, I thought the defensive coaching was much more aggressive this week. We finally put 6-8 up on the line of scrimmage and BLITZED!

I am sure that this helped with the five turnovers. This defense cannot sit back with 4 guys up on the line and the LB's 4 yds behind them. It was nice to see some attacking going on with the D.

On to New Jersey.

What scares me is the bunker mentality some coaches seem to go into when playing with a lead.

Today, this mentality almost put us at 3-2. With Philly knowing that we were going to run, no intermediate to long passing game having been established, IMO this run only mentality allowed Philly to catch up and stay in the game until their last turnover.

If Philly is so geeked on 3rd and short in the 4th quarter, and you know they will be loading the "box" with defenders, why not throw a 5 yard out to get that 1st down? No one is expecting a pass to the flat, with the receiver going out of bounds. I can remember all of the successful, Super Bowl winning teams doing things like this, to eliminate exactly what we experienced today.

I'm not knocking the win, but you can't expect a turnover like Barnett got their at the end. The momentum was in Philly's favor, they were right on the doorstep again, and had they scored to even the numbers I can only think that we'd be looking at another loss.

I think Philly's problems saved the Bills today. They are turnover prone, sloppy tacklers, and make mistakes at the most inopportune of times. We benefited because of this. Last week against the Bengals and once again playing with a lead, Gailey felt it necessary to go into the bunker mentality of running the ball because you have the lead, and it DID burn the Bills with a loss in a game that they should have won. We should very easily be 5-0 right now.

I love the Bills. Love the win. But I would like to see us be more aggressive and much less conservative when playing with a lead to start the second half. They talked much about not letting their foot off of the proverbial throats of the Eagles today like they did against the Bengals, but I saw alot of the same easing off of the gas pedal since they were playing with a good lead.

Just my opinion, but the bunker mentality needs to go.

You know the offense only scored 13 points last week, right? It's hard to ease too much off the gas pedal when you're not driving very fast to begin with. They did throw the ball on 3rd&1 up by 7 with 8 minutes left last week - you may have heard about that play. :wallbash:

We didn't get the lead today with downfield throws, but with runs, slants, and screens - which isn't surprising given the Eagles weakness at LB. They did a better job of defending those plays in the 2nd half, so ya I would've liked to have seen them take a deep shot with Stevie once. But I didn't see much indication that the coaches were just crossing their fingers hoping the 31 points would stand up.

Now if you want to rip punting on 4th&7 from the opponent's 37 I can totally get behind that.
