TEs

Zach Miller, TE, Raiders. Age: 25.

Zach Miller has caught at least 56 passes in each of the previous three years. I'd like to see what he could do in a more potent passing attack.

27. Zach Miller, TE

In this era of guys either being good blockers or good receivers, Miller is one of the few who are good at both. A true number one tight end in every situation.

---

Kevin Boss, TE, Giants. Age: 27.

Kevin Boss is a decent end zone target (16 TDs last 3 years) and a solid blocker.

47. Kevin Boss, TE

You wonder a little if Boss loses something every time he takes one of those big hits. 2009 was his year where he was a weapon in the pass game, and a beast with his blocking. 2010? Not so much. Has the tools to be a tight end who contributes on every play.

OTs

Ryan Harris, OT, Broncos. Age: 26.

A young, decent, zone-blocking right tackle, Ryan Harris struggled in Josh McDaniels' new offense. Harris will probably be heavily pursued this spring, though he's been injured a lot in the past two years.

---

Jared Gaither, OT, Ravens. Age: 25.

Jared Gaither is a very talented offensive tackle, but he missed all 2010 with a serious back injury. Back problems don't go away very easily, so it's possible that Gaither may never be 100 percent again.

10. Jared Gaither, OT

Perhaps slightly high given the risks, but the league is in short supply of good left tackles. More than that, Gaither isn’t just good – he’s extremely talented and with age on his side. Not enough franchise left tackles hit the market.

OLBs

Manny Lawson, OLB, 49ers. Age: 27.

Manny Lawson isn't the greatest pass-rusher in the world, but he does so many other things very well. Moving on to a team with a 4-3 defense might be ideal for the former first-rounder.

25. Manny Lawson, OLB

For 3-4 teams short on pass rush, Lawson seems the obvious answer. But there are some red flags given how he was rotated out of the lineup (often on passing downs) and he played alongside some exceptional players on that 49ers defense. Expect a solid performer, but not miracles.

---

Matt Roth, DE/OLB, Browns. Age: 28.

I'm not sure if Math Roth was hurt or not down the stretch, but he struggled late in the year after starting out really well.

12. Matt Roth, OLB

Roth faded a bit when so much was asked of him in 2010, but if a team wants a proven all around performer to complement a pure pass rusher, Roth is the guy. Gets to the quarterback and impacts running plays. What more do you want?

ILB

Channing Crowder, ILB, Dolphins. Age: 27.

Channing Crowder doesn't live up to his trash talking, but he's a decent, two-down inside linebacker.

LB Channing Crowder

In another example of a team swapping out talents, the Dolphins signed Kevin Burnett to replace Crowder at ILB. It’s arguable to me if that is an upgrade, as Crowder had a +14.0 run stop rating in 2010 despite missing five games. He had a positive run D rating in all but one game, and his -0.7 pass coverage rating doesn’t make him much of a liability in the pass game. He is definitely a player with some game left in him for a 3-4 defense.

My wish list

Cut Kelsay, go all out 34 quit bsing around.

Cut Torbor

Cut David Martin

Cut Cordaro Howard/Mansfield Wrotto

Sign OLB Matt Roth

Sign ILB Channing Crowder

Sign TE Kevin Boss

Sign OT Ryan Harris/Jared Gaither

Gaither just failed a physical in Oakland i believe.

Ryan Harris sounds more like a good fit. I think you will see Buffalo make a play for him or another OT in the next few days. They didnt want to seem desperate after the Clabo signing fell thru. And picking up the phone the next day would have only caused someones agent to try and use the Clabo deal as a negotiation point.

I am not sure the Bills are going to go after a TE. I think we as fans want one, but it just doesnt seem like Gailey/Nix but as much emphasis on that position.

LB is another area where i would be surprised to see a big turnover. Kelsay isn't getting cut this year. Gailey said in his interview about Barnett they got a threedown backer.

I like your thoughts, but that much turn over combined with a condensed preseason, isnt optimal. IMHO

It would be nice to see us "bringing in competition" and "making the team better" at the top of the depth chart instead of the bottom, but I doubt it will happen. At least, not with that last roster spot. I think whomever they get will instantly be a candidate to be cut. Still holding out hope for Zach Miller, though.

Yes he did but Dwan Edwards failed his in BAL and we signed him last yr.

Yea agree seems like they think TE isn't worth anything but Boss is a all around TE who would be a HUGE upgrade.

Kelsay needs to go doesn't fit 34, yea yea we are going to run both, but we want a switch to the 34 so go for it and sign Roth who is a 34 OLB who can rush the passer and stop the run.

You have to think who we are getting rid of, Kelsay, Torbor, Martin, Howard/Wrotto, all those guys suck and we are upgrading every spot. It's not like they are good player and we getting guys who are small upgrades they are big upgrades

Trying to argue these points and I'm not finding ready answers. If it all came down like Bills_Red call it, who wouldn't like that? Can't argue the upgrades there.

thanks, i mean we are stil WAY under the cap right? Roth, Crowder & Harris will get like 3ish mill per yr. Boss would be the most expensive around 4-5 mill. Kelsay makes 2 mill this yr. Torbor, Martin & Wrotto make 1 mill.

So it's not like we'd be spending out our buts for these guys. Say R + C + H get 3 mill per yr. and we get Boss for 5 that's 14 million. If we cut the guys I said we save round 5 million so our cap would go up 9 million. Not to bad imo.

yea especially considering we offered clabo 7-8. Kelsay is garbage he needs to go. torbor i could agree with as well. As much as i would love a tightened, its not happening. Harris would be a great addition, i would rather get roth and lawson as opposed to roth and crowder, i think we have 3 solid lib with barnett sheppard and davis. I just don't trust merriman but with roth and lawson we have a legit front 7 and whole 11 for that matter. Theoretically we could cut those players maybe just keeping wrotto for depth and just get lawson harris and roth for 9 mil. that would be awesome and we actually could compete for real.
