NAACP in town to monitor fairness of rally compared to Harley Davidson event

Rivers and Asaka said they and many volunteers stationed "from Atlantic Beach to Socastee" will monitor the area this weekend to make sure businesses are treating all patrons fairly, that they are open for business and that the Myrtle Beach Police Department is being fair.

The NAACP sued the city and a local business several years ago.

The suit against the business claimed it closed only during Bikefest, which some call "Black Bike Week," so it wouldn't have to serve blacks.

I'm sure it has less to do with serving black people than it does the violence that Black Bike Week brings with it annually.

MBPD investigates weekend violent crimes

At 4:25 a.m. Sunday, authorities arrived to the scene of 3201 North Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach where a woman reported that she and her three male friends were robbed and carjacked at gunpoint behind the Bargain Beachwear by four Black males.

At 4:30 a.m. Sunday, a man and his wife were riding back to their motel when they stopped at a stop sign and were assaulted and robbed on Yaupon Avenue between 13th and 17th Avenue South. The man reported being stabbed in his side and his necklace taken. EMS was called when he returned to the motel. No suspect could be identified due to the large number of people around at the time.

At 9:30 p.m. Sunday, three people coming out the Bar Harbor Motel in Myrtle Beach notified police that they were robbed at gunpoint by three Black males. The victims told police the subjects were in one of the rooms.

When police entered, they discovered two people matching the victim's descriptions and found a stolen pistol as well as marijuana. The two men were placed under arrest for possession with intent to distribute and warrants will be issued regarding the armed robbery.

So is it okay for a business to close during Black Bike Week as long as you close during White Bike Week, too?

And about your screen name...sorry your butt fair was so tough. Whatever that means (we don't need details).

The businesses (restaurant/hotels) shut their doors because of the crime, because their employees couldn't make it to work, and because they lost money during black bike week. Traditionally this week brings in a crowd that walks out on their food bills and tear up hotel rooms. The NAACP sued the businesses that closed their doors and later settled with them. Now everyone stays open for both rallies.

Although there is a spike in crime this week, MB has high crime all year long.

Myrtle Beach ranked as 4th most dangerous spring break destination.

Ask anyone, it's true, black folks just are not good patrons. They have no concept of tipping and are very demanding. Same for Europeons visiting the USA, perhaps not as demanding but no concept of tipping at all.

The Canadians don't tip well either. I guess the ultimate bad tipper would be a black French Canadian, eh?

i have been for golf weekends at myrtle beach during both biker weeks. not a good idea. you can hear the bikes for miles at all hours, town is crowded and people are generally rude and sometimes downright intimidating. i don't blame businesses for closing. i just don't go at all anymore. there are much nicer beaches without biker weeks close by.

It's a business decision and many Myrtle Beach businesses just can't make money during BBW. I'm sure that if the Harley week was as chaotic as BBW they'd be shutting down then too. Unfortunately, and I'm sure I'll take heat for even suggesting it, but large crowds of young African Americans invariably leads to violence. Just look at all the mayhem that happened over Memorial weekend-

The NAACP should stop vilifying businesses and condemning behavior like this that only serves to reinforce stereotypes.

The next thing you know, the federal government will be telling companies like Boeing where they can and cannot build their products.

Silly me. I guess any govt that can keep g.m. open can pretty much do whatever they want.

Why do I get the feeling that the Long Hot Summers of the 60's are coming back?

http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2011/06/borderline_riot_at_alabama_adv.html

BESSEMER, Alabama -- Bessemer and Hueytown police, Jefferson County sheriff's deputies and ambulances descended on the Alabama Adventure theme park in Bessemer this afternoon, with witnesses reporting numerous fights inside the park.

Bessemer police temporarily blocked the park's entrance to keep any vehicles from entering but are now allowing people into the park. However, streams of park guests have been flowing out.

Felix Torres, who was visiting the park today with his son, described it as a "borderline riot." He witnessed at least eight different fights, including chair throwing in the water park, and at least three people taken out of the park on gurneys, he said. "Every time we turned around, there was a fight," Torres said.

could it be because of drudge?

Boy, getting tough to come up with things to write about at Salon.com these days, huh? Can't write about Obama's dismal performance or misdeeds by members of Congress while Weiner is on the front pages.....hmmmm, I know, let's go back to the 'Dudge' well. Next week: another Glen Beck rant!

Heckuva job Rahmie!

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and newly confirmed police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said Wednesday that they're adding a "marginal" number of officers to the Near North Side to combat a spate of violence, even as they questioned the media's coverage of the attacks.

McCarthy cautioned reporters about characterizing crimes correctly, pointing to the differences between shoplifting, robbery and criminal mischief. And the mayor suggested journalists be more judicious in using the term "flash mob."

http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/cta-bus-wildings-123404378.html

In two separate incidents, as many as 15 teens have stormed Chicago Transit Authority buses, attacked their victims and darted off with cell phones and other electronic devices, authorities said Tuesday.

Both incidents were near the University of Illinois at Chicago campus, prompting city and campus authorities to issue community alerts.

In the first attack, near West Roosevelt Road and South Loomis Street at about 11:40 p.m. Saturday, a victim was struck multiple times before the thieves ran off with his cell phone.

It's going to be a long summer in Chicago as long as the criminals see there's no consequences as long as they commit these crimes in large packs.

to objective eyes he doesn't need smearing.... he's one colossal skid mark on the fabric of journalism

You realize that he doesn't write the articles, don't you? All he does is post links to the articles. Like a Google without all the crap.
