NFL will contribute toward Vikes stadium

This is why I side with the owners for the most part. They want these billion dollar stadiums, and I think they should pay for it, not taxpayers.

There are still too many cities or states willing to throw money at stadium building. This creates the conundrum for cities with teams play the same gMe or see your team leave. Look at whT happened tonthe NBA in Seattle. Do you really think Oklahoma City is the better sports town? Seattle and King county refused to build a new arena and next thing you know the team is off to a new locale that will. That is how the sad game is played.

Yes and unfortunately there's no uniformity in the stadium building market. Each deal will be different because each city/county/state as well as each professional league is constantly in a state of flux.

The economy and the markets go up and down. Public coffers swell and shrink. Some teams are doing well enough to boost the bottom line and contribute funds to the stadium, other teams are on life support.

With regards to Seattle in particular, one factor in why the Sonics left is because the City/County had just finished building new stadiums for both the Seahawks and the Mariners.

It's not the only reason the basketball team moved but that community was pretty much tapped out when it came to building a new basketball/hockey arena.

Yes, I think Oklahoma is a better sports STATE than Washington from the standpoint of a passionate fan base (exponentially moreso to football). No, Oklahoma City did not build a new stadium to entice the Sonics either. That arena was completed in 2002. The Thunder rolled in in 2008. FWIW, Tulsa also has a state-of-the-art facility of equal size. A basketball arena is small change compared to a football stadium.

It is nice that our new team has remained a contender through the transition too.

If a new retractable multi-purpose stadium for the Vikes comes in around a billion dollars and the NFL is willing to contribute 1/3 of the costs; yeah it is still a steep price tag, but if the Bills were to get government contributions from some of the other nearby areas in WNY...?

Move the stadium to Darien Lake - so that there is an added draw and support for it through most of the year from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Buffalo, Batavia, Rochester and Syracuse - right down the thruway. Add extra toll booths and maybe train service for an easy commute.

Besides Concerts and the Winter Classic, Training Camp could be there with the Amusement Park and camping still open.

The parking and roads are already there for the most part - especially during the fall when the park is closed - what do you think?

Good for the Vikes.

The Bills, Erie county and New York State really need to devise a plan here and go all out. A retractable roof stadium would be an incredible asset for this area. Just look at Indianapolis as an example. They are now in the discussion for Super Bowls, Big 10 Championship game, NCAA Final 4's, huge conventions, concerts and a hundred other events in addition to Colts football. To me it's short-sighted to just build a Dome somewhere on the cheap. Now that technology is there for retractable roof stadiums, no Dome-only should ever be built. Meanwhile we have this dinosaur of a stadium sitting out in the middle of nowhere and they keep sinking money into it like an old car. I love ya Ralph, but let's get some billionaire in here and do this thing right and make the Bills, The city of Buffalo and WNY relevant again.

Actually, OKC attendance has been way above what they drew in Seattle. The game experience is better as well. The area around the Ford Center in OKC is called Bricktown. It is a thriving area of restaurants and bars that people go to before and after the games. There is a river walk and a canal as well. Much better experience than was available in Seattle. Just my two cents worth. I used to live in Oklahoma and they were starving for a professional franchise. Great minor league city and now a great big league one as well.
