What do you think, want to see Marcellus step into the cage?

Hell yeah, don't know about Marcellus' fight skills but Toney got destroyed by my man Randy couture who is 47 years old. So who wins? who cares it's a cage fight what else do you need.

Nothing better than a verbal dick swinging contest between two has-been athletes.

MMA = the sporting world equivalent of 'Jersey Shore'. At least pro wrestling occasionally produced entertaining theater.

Please, you obviously have never watched a UFC fight, watchin bums in Stikeforce on CBS is hardly top shelf. MMA will be the biggest sport of all time real soon and you will be eating that Jersey Shore crow.

I'd rather watch a boxing match than a Ufc match in which they are on the mat the whole time rolling around. So boring

If can't wrestle you can't fight, in the cage and the real world. You clowns don't s#!t about fighting so STFU!

Ok first off your entitled to whatever opinion you like but I have to say that is one hell of a sterotype. I like MMA a lot and don't own any tap-out or affliction t-shirts. Some of us just respect it and enjoy it for what it is. I'm a big boxing fan also but I get turned off by all the politics. There is potential for one of the greatest boxing matches in history with Pacquiao/Mayweather and the promters/fighters can't figure out a way to make it work. Its been like that for 30 years now.

the amount of techniques that goes into MMA is insane. kickboxing, boxing, wrestling, jiujitsu, judo and others. just cause your pea brain cant comprehend whats happening does not mean its gay porn. MMA is also still very much in its infancy when it comes to being a main stream sport.

Exactly and soon Catch wrestling will be taking over jiu-jitsu as the main submission art. It

has way more control, agression and hooks (submissions). Catch is America's Martial art and was pro wrestling before it became fake.

I agreed with everything else you said till that I hate wrestling I can not stand the lay and pray matches you get when there is 1 good wrestler but it could be more from the fact that I do jiu-jitsu

Just when I think I've read the dumbest thing yet on this board someone always comes along and does one better... B-)

You are right, and I truly cannot help it. Something about MMA just drives me nuts. I do not think it is the sport. I do not think it is what it represents. I think it is the image. I do not know. I just get douche chills when I think of MMA and cannot help it.

I think that is a funny response. MMA is about 20 years old now. It use to just be known as tough man competitions, amongst other names.

Also, my pea brain was a standout wrestler. I understand technique, I see what is going on, I see it very well. I see it so much that I see it as too much of a chance then a sport I can cheer. You cannot counter a kick to the head then you have blood in your eyes and are falling over in to a chain fence. The backbone of MMA is wrestling, I get that, and I still do not care.

I love people that get on message boards and talk about how they were standout athletes. Mother Gooses' Nursery School doesn't count. Uh oh, are you going to articulate my face?

I am an amateur MMA competitor, as well as the most avid fan of the sport that anyone can be. Anyone who sits here and insults the sport is absolutely clueless to what it entails, and what it stands for. Those will be the same people who are looking to watch something when these whiney millionaires, and billionaires go on strike, because they are too uneducated for their own good. These guys are first rate athletes in ANY organization, and are pure class. Please do me a favor and approach Bruce Smith. Then approach Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell, BJ Penn, or any of these guys for that matter. I assure you that your opinion would change. I am a die hard Bills fan, and have been for 25 years. However, the class of the athletes, and the appreciation of the fans who pay their salaries are not even in the same ballpark.

P.S. If Marcellus Wiley has taken 10 minutes of Jiu-Jitsu class he will have Toney tapping as quick as Couture did.

What does that mean? Articulate that to your face? I mean, I know how to use grammar, I know word usage? Is that like saying you want to have a serious discussion about it? Like two frat boys have drunk outside of a bar? No thanks...

I respect your opinion, I could care less what you think about me personally...and do me a favor, don't care about my personal life and respect my opinion. I could tell you I am Jesus Christ and you have no reason to be upset because it means absolutely nothing to ya buddy.

This is an anonymous message board on the internet that is designed for people to discuss various things...it is nothing more. God, I am so sick of the tough guy persona that is taking over this board... :wallbash:

I think you have a solid post and I am glad you brought it up. I guess where I always end up never finding myself a fan of the sport is confusing to even myself. I can watch a junior high match and enjoy it, and most any other sport. I do not really care about boxing, though. Anyway, I think the dilema is that I understand entails, the training, the work, the practice, although I think what it stands for is debatable, I will give my opinion. To many they think MMA is like Fight Club and they are wrong. It is not at all something that is barbaric gladiator fighting, even though it is probably the closest you can get to it! I can enjoy a match, I can dissect it in my head with my wrestling knowledge - but I cannot get in to it. When it gets to the hype, when it gets to the WWE and big-time boxing cutting promo type stuff then I just get upset. Flat out, what drives me away is the drama they put in to it, the hype, the stories, the show and grace. Boxing is the same way!

That MMA has targeted the young audience has cost them many fans. It is similar to NASCAR. How many people have already thought of rednecks drinking beer outside a trailer home? MMA is the same to me, younger kids, mostly under 30, big baggy hoodies, smart to mouth off, and like someone else said Jersey Shore-ish. Of course, neither of the stereo types are true, but my point is still pretty clear. NASCAR markets toward the blue collar mans-man crowd with Snap-On, motor oil, and beer. MMA markets to the youth with energy drinks, workout equipment and beer. Neither of those genres are something I am a part of so it becomes another sport that I do not follow with the average fan.

I definately agree, first place athletes are far above the amatuer. As far as Bruce or St. Pierre...I do not plan on approaching either.

While I respect everyone's opinion to like or dislike any sport you choose, the stereotypes you have stated in your post could not be more off base. You use the "baggy hoodies", "smart mouth", etc stereotype. I am not sure where on earth you saw that. I am assuming the impression you are getting is that this is some type of thugish sport. Perhaps you were watching NFL Films, or an NBA sideline, but you DEFINITELY have the wrong sport here. Once again everyone is entitled to their opinion, but where on Earth do you get this from? Have you ever watched an event? Also the storylines, and drama that drive you away sounds like you are mistaking mixed martial arts for Monday Night Raw. There is no storylines, there is no drama. There is just two highly skilled professional athletes who enter a cage with a strategy in hopes of winning the fight. Both men have their strengths, both have their weaknesses, but in the end the best man wins. If the two men happen to have a history, well then that is very real. Its not a show, its not an act. Its just like when the Steelers and Ravens get together. Its tough for me to comprehend how someone can not enjoy a sport where there is no excuses, no home field advantage, no weather factor, no teamates, just two men going to war and then shaking hands after its over. It is the ultimate sport of respect, discipline, and action. I respect that it is not for everyone, and I understand everyone has their interests. I personally would rather jump off a bridge than watch a baseball, hockey, or soccer game, yet half the world is obsessed with these sports. In conclusion, I would have to say your lack of interest in the sport is based on your lack of knowledge of the sport. Much like baseball, hockey, and soccer are for me, you have no interest in gaining interest, and I totally understand and respect that. That is your choice as an American. Next time you are flicking through the channels and check out the UFC, I assure you that you wont see any Marshawn Lynch, Antonio Cromartie or Warren Sapp caliber human beings. You will see top notch, disciplined, world class athletes, with tons of respect for their opponents and the fans.

Catch wrestling isn't ameture wrestling, it has way more subs than jits and is the opposite of the gentle way, it is about ending your opponent as fast as possible. In the old days these guys made all their money on matches and if they got hurt they would lose money so they became extremely brutal to ends matches as fast as possible. Ironically catch went over to Japan when it became fake over here and they dominated the Judo and jiu-jitsu guys and the japanees started training catch and eventually became shoot fighting which led to Pride. The only Catch in America that lasted was Carival wrestlers and this faded out in the 50s and 60s. But there where many old timers that passed in on (Lou thez ,Dick Cardinal, Billy Robinson)to trainers today and with the emergence of MMA it is making a big comeback and will dominate the sunmission world now that many fighters are embracing it. Randy Coutures coach Neil Melanson is teaching him and his crew catch.

Fear the spine lock.

the UFC is about 20 years old. MMA is a bit older. But still very new compared to other sports. as for your "standout wrestler" rubbish that does not mean you understand everything once it goes to the mat. how many subs and sub defense did you learn in wrestling? yah......and taking a shot on someone whos trying to punch or kick your face off is a little different. either way its ok you dont like it. but saying you understand and actually understanding it is 2 different things.
