I DRIVE A DODGE STRATUS!!!!

Dad: [ breaking silence ] How was school today, dear?

Daughter: Fine.

Mom: Did you have band practice today, or was Mr. Larson still sick?

Daughter: No, he's still sick.

[ they continue to eat in silence, banging their knives and forks together as they eat ]

Dad: [ craving attention ] I had a.. funny thing happen today at work. When I left the office, I had trouble unlocking my car. Then I realized I had the wrong set of keys.

Mom: Did somebody take your keys?

Dad: [ annoyed ] Can I finish the story? [ pauses in stern silence ] It turns out that I had accidentally taken Jeff Peabody's keys, and.. he had taken mine. We.. really had a long laugh.

Mom: Mmm, I thought that's who took them..

Dad: Will you ever let me finish a damn story?!

Mom: I-I just assumed that Jeff Peabody -

Dad: I would love to finish one damn story!

Daughter: Your stories are lame, Dad!

Dad: [ angry ] You do not talk to me like that!

Mom: Do not raise your voice!

Shut up!!

Dad: You do not talk to me like that!

Daughter: I cannot believe -

Dad: I am a Division Manager!! That is very important!! That is very important!! You don't talk to me like that!! People are scared of me!!

Daughter: Why would anybody be scared of you! I hate you, you big fat terd!

[ stunned, they continue to eat in awkward, confned silence ]

Mom: I spoke with Paula's mother this afternoon.

Daughter: So?

Mom: I guess Paula's really excited about the sleepover tomorrow night.

Daughter: Oh, shut up, you drunken witch!

[ they return to silence ]

Dad: Did you pick up my dry cleaning?

Mom: Hmm, it's not ready until Thursday.

Dad: I thought you said it'd be ready today?

Mom: No, it's going to be ready Thursday.

Dad: You know, I have that big meeting tomorrow.

Mom: Well, I'm sorry.

Dad: I wish you weren't a liar!

Mom: I didn't lie, Ted.

Dad: I wish you weren't a liar!

Mom: I wish you wouldn't call me a liar!

Dad: Don't raise your voice at me!

Mom: I am not raising my voice!

Dad: You do not talk to me like that!! I work too hard to deal with this stuff!! I work too hard!! I'm a Division Manager in charge of 49 people!! I drive a Dodge Stratus!!

[ their screaming comes to an end, as the agonizing silence returns ]

Mom: Honey, do you want to go to Pottery class with me this weekend?

Daughter: I wish you were dead!

[ awkward silence, a struggle for a normal conversion ]

Dad: I'm gonna take the car into the shop tomorrow.

Daughter: You mean your lame Dodge Stratus?

Dad: You don't talk about my car that way!!

Mom: Dear Lord..

Dad: I drive a Dodge Stratus!! You don't talk about my Dodge Stratus that way!!

Daughter: Shut up!

Dad: You do not talk to your father that way!! I am a Division Manager!! I can do 100 push-ups in twenty minutes!!

Daughter: I'm going to Rob's house! I hate you - both!

[ Daughter storms out of the house ]

[ Dad grabs daughter's plate, and seperates her food between him and Mom ]

Dad: This chicken is delicious.

Mom: It's a recipe from Lipton Cup-a-Soup.

buy a Toyota

Consumer Reports (the bible of consumer goods) recomends 14 of 16 Toyota's.

I have a Toyota pickup, it has 140,000 miles on it, I've had it for 11+ years and it still runs like a champ. It's goota go this summer, because I have a baby on the way and I need a family car.

I'm right there with you, Taterhill. 2005 Buick LeSabre. It might be an old mans car (I guess I qualify now), but if you are looking for reliability and a nice ride... they are quality cars. Might be a bit pricy if economics are a concern.

As soon as an American car works as trouble-free as a Japanese car, I will.

Besides, all of the manufacturing is done in the US.

I pretty much agree with you Fezmid. As far as cars go I would go with a Honda(or if I has bucks a Nissan 350z). But I gotta say my 2001 Ford 150 Super Crew has been problem free since I got it new. About 52000 miles on it and have only done the brakes on it. Very happy with it. Could care a less about gas mileage because I have a company gas card and also im a selfish, resource hoarding sob!

My $0.02....

I had a 91 Camry 275,000 miles on it with the same clutch...

Currently the 99 Toyota Sienna van has 198,000 on it and it rides great...

I drive a lot LOL

A neighbor has a 89 Corolla>>> 300,000...Runs great..

My suggestion>>Toyota...Camry, Solora, Corolla

Then Honda..Accord or Civic....either are great....

Nissan Altimas are popular and very dependable..

I live in an urban area. I drive about 150 miles a week. I have no clue about maintenance. I am single and have no interest in spending big bucks on an automobile (preferring wine, women, song and the occasional football wager). I refuse to drive an SUV or minivan type vehicle.

Thanks in advance.

Some of you may appreciate this. I just bought a vintage 1969 AMC US Army Jeep, Original parts, in Cambodia for $1,000. I'm going to drive it over to Saigon and ship it to the States. It's in good body shape needs some TLC under the hood but runs remarkably well. Pretty excited to have this bad boy running around the mean streets of No. Virginia.

Get a Honda, new or used. I've owned five over the last twenty-five years. All of them had great service records.

I went off the reservation in 1999 and bought a Volkswagon Passat. Great car to drive, but LOUSY LOUSY maintainence record. The thing could not go 10K miles wihtout some major problem.

Stick with the Japanese.

For a commuter vehicle, I might get a Toyota Echo or a low end Saturn. Or I might go a little higher and get a Honda Civic hybrid. The nice thing about a hybrid, asside from the great gas mileage is the fact there is little or no drop off in gas mileage from highway to city driving.

Living in Florida has it's advantages, like being able to use a convertible in January without wearing a parka. And I traded it in Detroit when I was contracting for GM. Both my Dad and Granddad retired from the Chevy plant on River Road.

I also have a 2004 Element which is made in Ohio, gotta have something to carry the golf clubs.
