The thing I like about Gailey is that he likes to use deception on plays. If I heard right. I think subterfuge is a huge help for plays to succeed. Yeah - deception! This will be fun.... I, for one, am hopeful we found a guy that can lead us to the playoffs in the near future. Aren't hobbies supposed to keep you happy? No one complain! If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all. Seriously, are we in kindergarten or something? Forgive me for not being overly enthused by a guy who wasn't able to get a HC job in more than a decade. So we need to withhold final judgment until the whistle blows. But, I would argue that this hire is honest in many ways. Gailey, at least for now, may be a good fit for the team we have, if not for the team we wish we had. We have real weaknesses in our line and our QB. We have a young team. We made too many thoughtless mistakes, especially with penalties. We need, as Nix said, a coach who can teach and develop talent. The Bills are not yet a playoff team, but we have the talent at some spots to get there soon. Nix, I sense, knows our problems, and he is hiring a staff of teachers and discilplinarians, rather than innovators. Think Lombardi, not Leach. First, Gailey possesses many of the qualities Nix said he wanted in a coach at his first presser. That tells me Nix is a man of his word, and that he chooses his words carefully. The good ole' boy, aw shucks stuff masks a canny mind. Second, all of us on the Board know we need someone who can fix our QB problem. Gailey has done that in the past. He is obviously a teacher. Third, he wants to run the ball, which is also something everyone on this board demands. Fourth, he went out of his way to mention character, and how the players behave on and off the field. The Bills, thankfully, have not had the nightmares of other teams on this issue, but we do have problems. The Board has been very vocal about that, and I am impressed he feels it is part of a coach's job to work on that. Again, he needs to win games. For now, though, I am sold. Trader Posted January 19, 2010 Share Posted January 19, 2010 Agreed I believe the Bills will get worse before they get better. I do not like the Nix hire at GM or the Chan Galey hire. That being said I pledge perosnally that I will give him three years to establish a winning record before I start calling for their heads. I do believe they have not bottomed out yet they will get worse before they get better. I will criticize when warranted but I will not call for a house cleaning. They've got something to prove to me, you want to drink some kool-aid, have at it Who ever the new strength and conditioning coach is will be a breath of fresh air. "They didn't get the coach I wanted.....WAAAAAAAH......this guy sucks, WAAAAAAH." I think by mid season, these same nattering nabobs of negativity will be singing a different tune. Yes there were higher profile coaches, but think he is type that uses the players he has to best of their abilities, rather than molding players into his system, even if they don't fit. I really didn't want Cower like most, since when he was in Pittsburgh he often disrespected both the Buffalo players and the area. Not that think he is a bad coach, just didn't like allot of the things he said in radio interviews in Buffalo area early in his career. He also is a 3-4 guy and think we would have had to dump half our players and start over building the team again to fit his systems. Of the other experienced coaches out there, Marty is only other one think would have worked with what we have and built from there, rather than gutting and starting over. May being too optimistic here, but think that he could be a good rebuilding coach. Do not think he will take us to any super bowls during his reign, but do think he can turn them into a consistent play-off type team, with some good drafting. This is assuming that they sign a good defensive coordinator of course, whose system takes advantage of the personnel already on the team. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I've been around the blog threads for the last day or so about this, and it has been 99% negative. For however many people they interviewed, they chose Gailey. Now it's time to get on board and trust he'll have a plan. If things turn sour, then yes, I'll be lashing out with the rest of you, but for now I will remain hopeful that he'll put the team in the right direction. Innocent until proven guilty. Isn't that how America work, right? Something I really liked, something his predecessor did not have, was his tone and attitude with regard to the conference. That made me believe he won't take any BS or make excuses. He knows the situation, probably better than most, or else he wouldn't have taken the job. I have to agree with your basic premise. We have a new coach and his record will have to speak for itself. many years ago nobody would have thought of Marv Levy as a good hire (as coach). His prior coaching record did not stand out yet he turned into the greast coach the Bills have ever had. Much will take shape over the next few weeks and months.
