  1. In April Jacksonville was shocked and scrambled reaching for DE Aluala after the Bills Spiller selection...The draft experts were flabbergasted.

Levi Brown Cut. NOBODY flys out to Schobel to beg while McCargo and Lynch embraced? OTs not addressed as they believe Bell can handle his business.Stroud's big ass converted to DE and Kyle on the nose? The speed of Roscoe in the mix? Who is this Nelson kid?

"All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near. Hold out baits to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and crush him."

    - Sun Tzu, the Art of War

Why do most of the experts have the BILLS finishing last in the AFC East and feel that they'll be lucky to win a game or two? A: Because with all the changes they don't have a clue about this team. They are a mystery. How do you game plan for a team that you know nothing about with so many changes? You cant. We are a wild cat.

Gailey knows this defense is good but hes hiding it, no blitz packages shown.Whose our running back? How does the BEST secondary and backfield in the NFL not win? Impossible! I also believe this team is far more balanced then meets the eye. The Dolphins game is sold out, The 12th man will be in full force. CG's Bills are a mystery and they will crush the Fins.

I like the idea, good post...I have been thinking about this myself.

I have been wondering if Gailey came up with "injuries" for Lynch and Jackson to throw Miami off guard in their planning for week one. It just seems odd that they both were not supposed to be around this week, especially Jackson...and now all of a sudden BOTH of them are going to be playing...along with Torbor, who was the same situation.

It is very Bill Belichik-ish...playing games with the injury report.

I also would bet the house that we did not even see a 1/4 of the playbook in pre-season...especially with the defense.

  2. Sam Aiken was recently cut by the Patriots...

With how bad our ST's were and our inexperienced WR corps...would anyone be interested in bringing Sammy back to Buffalo?

I do not see how it would hurt us or be a bad move...drop Donald Jones and pick up Aiken.

  3. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/maurice_jones-drew/09/05/fantasy.strategy/index.html?eref=fannation

As far as the guys that are likely to go undrafted, there are a few that I think have potential and will be keeping my eye on. Sticking with the tight ends, I'm interested to see how the two young tight ends in New England perform: Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski. Matt Hasselbeck could really click in that offense they're running in Seattle, and Derek Anderson could be everything Kurt Warner was in Arizona now that they've handed him the keys. I also think whoever the Bills pick as their starter has potential to put up big numbers.

Sure, it is for fantasy football...but doesnt it mean that if our QB puts up "big numbers", he has a pretty good year?!

I think MJD seems some potential in our playmakers and QB, and maybe he thinks our O-Line is decent.

I sure hope he is right!

  4. Texas Tech's Taylor Potts went 34/53, 359 yds, 4 TDs/0 INTs against SMU - and will be around in round 3 or 4.

Unless we finish dead last and win the Ryan Mallett pool (which we won't), the 'gotta take a first-round QB guys' will likely be disappointed again. We're not gonna be crappy enough to draft Locker either. Luck doesn't really fit Buddy Nix's self-stated desires for draftable QBs (4 years/30 games/lots of experience & big game exposure). Kid's a red-shirt sophomore - is he even declaring for the 2011 draft?

I'm thinking we'll be drafting in the mid-to-bottom half of round one - hopefully landing an OT like

    Gabe Carimi

I stopped reading after it said the kid was like Bulaga and Calloway...

1 is a 1st rounder who cant win a job as a guard, not to mention the tackle spot he was drafted to play...and the other did not even make it to the final cuts!

  5. C.J. Spiller HB Roll pleayer

    David Nelson WR 4th Wr

    Donald Jones WR st

    David Martin TE 2nd TE

    Cornell Green ROT "starter"

    Kraig Urbik OL maybe starter

    Eric Wood OL injured

    Dwan Edwards DE STARTER

    Alex Carrington DE Future starter

    Torrell Troup NT Future starter

    Andra Davis ILB STARTER

    Reggie Torbor OLB "starter"

    Arthur Moats ILB st

    Antonio Coleman OLB st

    7 off

    7 d

Right and it takes more than one offseason to completely overhaul your coaching staff, team, schemes and playbook...

Just think...next year at this time, there will probably be another 14 players added...so in year 2 that will be 28 new players, meaning Gailey/Nix would have cleaned out half of this team.

You gotta start somewhere...I like what's being done!

  6. Quarterbacks: F

The Bills have arguably THE worst quarterback situation in the NFL. What more is there to say?

    Running Backs: B+

While the Bills don't have one of the marquee backs in the league, they have a talented stable of backs that many teams would be happy with.

    Offensive Line: C

The young guards look good, the tackles are way below average.

    Tight Ends: F

Foschi and Stupar are terrible. Nelson is suspended, a mediocre receiver, and a liability in the run game.

    Wide Receivers: D

Lee Evans is a solid player. He would make a nice number 2 on a lot of teams. Everyone else would fail to make the roster on a team with a good offense.

    Defensive Line: C+

Williams is serviceable, Stroud has a little left in the tank, and things are dicey beyond that.

    Linebackers: D-

Poz will never live up to expectations, Mitchell is aging, and the rest are journeyman backup caliber.

    Cornerbacks: C+

McGee is solid, Florence is not too bad for a nickel/dime guy. McKelvin has done nothing to warrant the high draft choice as of yet.

    Safeties: B

Stong unit on the whole, good depth. I may have graded them higher but I'm skeptical that Byrd is the real deal.

    Overall Team Grade: D

There is some talent on this offense, but that passing attack AND THESE GRADES ARE just plain awful. In a league that favors the passing attack more and more every year, its going to be hard for the Bills to win many games with the meager production to be expected from their passing game. The defense has some talent as well, but the switch to 3-4 highlights the linebackers who are unfortunately the weak link of the defense.

  7. Out of that list there, the players who interest me are...

LB - Tim Shaw (cut by Bears) - He would be great for special teams and was very good at Penn State.

    http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bears/post/_/id/4665834/shaw-shows-what-he-can-do

OLB - Cody Brown (cut by Cardinals)

WR - Mike Jones (cut by Cardinals)

    RB/QB/WR - Michael Robinson (cut by 49ers)

FB - Jehuu Caulcrick (cut by 49ers)

QB - Jarrett Brown (cut by 49ers)

LB - Ricky Foley (cut by Jets)

LB - Boris Lee (cut by Jets)

OT - Adam Terry (cut by Colts)

DT - Damione Lewis (cut by Patriots)

  8. Just heard that Big Ben will probably only miss 4 games this year. HUH? Compare Mike Vick's suspension to Ben R's suspension. When you do the comparison something doesn't add up. Big Ben should have been suspended from the league for at least a year, or maybe more. There is no excuse for rape or killing dogs. Both men should be out of the league.

    Your thoughts?

No they should not be out of the league...they deserve another opportunity as long as they earn it and prove they have changed.

Would you want to be fired from your job and banned from working in your professional field for the rest of your career...if you committed a crime, or moreso just made a mistake, like ALL humans do?

    I highly doubt it.

  9. He is the third CB and thus the nickel guy (a virtual starter in today's NFL with the greater use of 3WR sets by opposing Os) on most unofficial depth charts.

As is the practice in the NFL the Bills do keep an official depth chart on their site, but Hailey seems quite reluctant to disclose info that the next opponent will use.

The official depth chart does list Florence as the starting RCB with McKelvin backing him up. No nickel is listed though I would say there is a consensus that McKelvin is that guy )particularly with some of the struggles #4 CB Reggie Corner has had.

The most interesting thing about the depth chart however IMHO is that McKelvin is not even listed as a back-up kick returner. Given his demonstrated ability to take punt returns to the house I think this is weird.

Still as far as it goes this only shows the embarassment of riches we have in terms of deadly return guys.

As far as a top tier draft pick beginning his third year on the bench, my sense is this says more about what disappoints you than it does about McKelvin as a player,

Folks tend to seem to expect any first round pick to be an immediate contributor to the team that chose him. This simply is not reality as I actually looked the depth chats to see how the draftees did in real life. Interestingly I looked at a year which the consensus was a prettu strong draft class. However, as the next season began only slightly more than half were first on their team\s depth chart at their position

Good players have to come from somewhere so I believe the draft is a key, but I think that thanks to the marketing saavy of Mel Kiper and the ESPN folks I think most fans oversimplity. It makes less difference to me whether he starts as a position than whether he is a contributor.

The best way for MJKelvin to contribute is to run a few returns for TDs would make McKelvin a great contributor which is what I care moat in terms of back-up.

I actually thought I heard during a game or a Chris Brown report, maybe I read it somewhere...but it is my understanding that when they go into a nickel package, Florence goes to the slot and McKelvin goes to the outside.

I have no idea what the benefits of that are, why Florence would be a better nickel CB...but that is just what I had read or heard somewhere...so take it for what its worth.

Anyways...Florence is good enough to start, he should start based off last year and his playmaking ability.

McKelvin's time will come soon enough, and YES he WILL get plenty of PT this Fall.

  10. I have recently seen this...and I can say for sure that...

    A. It really is NOT a big deal...Spikes hardely even shows himself, yes you see his tool, but not very much.

    B. The chick is EXTREMELY HOT...Looks A LOT like Kim Kardashian.

    C. There is no sex...Some minor oral sex...his thing and her hooters.

I would not classify this as a "Sex-Tape." It sure is worth the watch though.

  11. Exactly. He was probably telling Ryan that's who their opponent was.

People here are stretching a bit.

And even if they werent...what is wrong with Rex Ryan telling his VP of Football Operations that they will beat the Buffalo Bills?

Its not like signing your death certificate...or anything really earth shattering. I would hate to bust everyone's bubble around here, but the Jets ARE a superior football team with a superior coaching staff, players, stadium, front office...people, I am sorry but they are just simply better than us right now. They have probably passed the Patriots.

People dont like the Jets because they are getting good...all the bad talk was about the Patriots for the last some-odd years...now we are onto the Jets...5 years from now we will all be hating the Dolphins...then it will be back to our turn to dominate!

When you see it, you will see why I keyed in on it. It is in his body language and smug smile. It was a dismissal of our Bills as an irrelevant opponent, not worthy of any concern.

I should also mention that I like the concept of the show, cool idea. As for the Jets, eh... F 'em.

Dude...when the hell have we EVER been relevant in the past 10-15 years???

    PLEASE, SOMEONE ANSWER ME THIS???

  12. Chan says he may put Freddie, Marshawn and CJ in the backfield at the same time.

"We don't know how that's going to shake out yet. We've got the luxury of three pretty good backs. They may all be in there at the same time, you never know."

Is Chan just toying with us? Or will the Bills occassionally run some variation of the triple option?

Can you imagine CJ in the QB position in the shotgun formation with Jackson and Lynch to hand off to? A creative mind like Gailey's might love to play around with something like this. Having three legit running threats to simultaneously worry about could give a defense fits... if the plays are designed and executed right.

After Miami's success with the Wildcat, Chan must be tempted with the possibilities.

Well it would be nice to see them use some kind of new, innovative offense with these playmakers. You would also think with how successful Miami was with the Wildcat and their 2 dynamic backs, Chan would be able to come up with something even better involving his THREE dynamic backs.

However, it is just like Chan said himself, if you cannot threaten the Defense with a PASSING game out of a package like that...the running game will never work on its own. It might be alright for a week or two, but with no threat to pass, Defenses will quickly catch on and be able to focus solely on the run and shut it down.

  13. Got mine! I'm sure they're junk, but my Wang waits for no one!

Did you order with a credit card...or do you guys use paypal or something?

I wanna get a Bills, Sabres, Yankees and Celtics jersey...because they're such good prices.

However, I am not sure if I trust using a credit card.

    What do you guys think?

  14. 1] Penalties. Wow. The Bills made a few late in the game but at halftime with most of the regular players, I think the Bills only had one and the Bengals 8.

2] On two of the early big losses on the Spiller runs, I thought Stupar missed the block on one and Steve Johnson on the other that allowed the Bengals instantly into the backfield to disrupt the play. Then the rest of the Bengals converged. It wasn't immediately the OL fault although that was on first look and didnt get to watch it a few times to know for sure.

3] Spiller is clearly the real deal. He needs to be on the field. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Gailey is going to do with the three headed monster.

4] Damn you, Shawn Nelson. You could have been a serious threat as the #5 option if you weren't a knucklehead.

5] David Nelson should start over Stevie Styles right now. He even blocks well. Has a real feel for the game and the seams in the defense. Catches everything. Huge lanky target. Played in big games his whole college career so he is not affected by the NFL. I can't believe this guy didn't get drafted.

6] Jackson let the hard pass at the goalline go through his hands, tough catch but he needs to make it. Hardy looked awful on one crossing pattern where he flinched, and dropped another short pass that was tough but should have caught it. Got wide open and nice sideline catch for 30. Looked better running patterns. I have no idea what Gailey thinks of him, good or bad (although we know he thought Hardy sucked at first and then greatly improved). I still think we keep six WR (Evans, Parrish, Johnson, Nelson, Jackson, Hardy for the first four games (unless a good TE gets cut and we sign him). Then when Nelson comes back, we cut one of Hardy or Jackson or IR someone because of injury.

7] Defense looks terrible right now. I am just hoping, not thinking, that they will get a little better each week and when they have all their starters in. I liked what I saw of Troup. LBs were abused. Davis played well except for forgetting to cover Gresham on the TD which was brutal. McLovin despite the slip on the Ocho TD needs to start over Florence.

8} Trent looks good. Quite efficient. The coaching and play-calling makes a huge difference. Said it in another thread but it seems like an equal parts combination of about five different things: The play design is significant better. The play calling in both sequence and appropriate time is much better. The playing to a player's individual strengths is much better (see Parrish). Getting the 5 OL that will start all in at the same time has helped tremendously. And adding Spiller to the mix.

This team is a lot more fun to watch than I expected. Although I am one who puts no stock at all in pre-season. The only thing I think we know for sure is that CJ is fast, has fabulous vision, cutback ability and acceleration. He looks like a stud.

Gailey looks like a good hire right now. No doubt about it. We'll see in the games that count though.

Still should have drafted Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie...instead of Leodis McKelvin!!! :wallbash:

  15. http://www.nickmendola.com/so-the-bills-drafted-another-quick-healer/

Like the dude says...makes you think of Poz, McKelvin and Crowell.

What is going on with this team? Do you think we are just trying to stock pile players and see what we have...so this was done as a way to make a spot for another player? This way they can develop Easley and hopefully STILL find another good WR for NEXT year?

    Either way...IT IS VERY WEIRD!

  16. Maybin is looking much, much better. The kid has instinct to get to the QB -- if only he can harness that instinct for pass coverage, we may have something special in a couple years.

    WASHINGTON REDSKINS: BRIAN ORAKPO

In Orakpo, the Redskins have an elite pass-rusher who's learning how to separate quarterbacks from the ball.

What I love about Orakpo is his willingness to make changes. He's constantly in the film room studying offensive tackles and he doesn't want any of them to have a book on him. He has a wide array of counter moves and he's quickly embraced the concepts of Jim Haslett's 3-4. Here's what Orakpo told me during my recent visit to Ashburn, Va.:

"I'm always going forward in this defense" he said. "I want to be chasing the quarterback at all times, and this defense makes that possible."

THAT is THEE PROBLEM with Aaron Maybin. He needs to develop his counter-moves...bottom line.
