And on foreign policy he had the balls and sense to end the ethnic fighting in Kosovo by getting international support, and having a strategy that minimized the risk to our military while achieving success.

The country is much more homogenous and integrated than when the EC was enacted. It currently has the effect of not counting the votes of the minority parties in many states, such as Republicans in NY or Democrats in Texas. Using a popular vote instead of the EC would mean that every single person that voted would have an effect on the result.

Because it isn't going to change, so why bring up a moot point. But given a choice I would prefer popular vote over electoral college. So given what we have, we can only hope that all the popular votes that determine the electoral college get counted.

You give Bush too much credit. He's not a globalist, the people who he listened to for advice are globalists who thought they could advance their agenda with the point of a gun. Bush never had the intellectual curiousity about foreign affairs to learn and have the insight to reject the bad advice he followed.

I went through a large plant shutdown 3 years ago after working there for 21 years, and my current company is having a slowdown and at the point of asking for voluntary layoffs, so I know what you're going through. Well if Americans are so upset with the Democrat agenda in Congress that the Repubs have blocked, then we should expect the Repubs to make gains in the election. But if Americans want to give the Democrat agenda a better chance of passing, then we should see Democrat gains.

And why didn't they come through? Because they were blocked by Bush and the Repubs in Congress. Thus the importance of a fillibuster proof majority in the Senate. Probably won't happen, but it would be nice.

Glad to see you used the present tense to emphasize that the current Republican administration is allowing this to happen, and the Republicans in Congress blocked the comprehensive immigration bill that McCain and the Democrats supported. You can't blame the Dems on this, it was the Repubs that left things as they are, and now McCain is against the same bill he supported.
