I agree with the basic idea of your post here, Poz. I think sometimes people forget that there is only so much to go around in the NFL every offseason and you cannot really blow up a team and start over, while expecting to play well. You would have to hit on multiple FAs and nearly all of your draft. As much as people point to a particular team/GM/draft and say, "Wow, that's what the Bills need," there is no easy and quick way to achieve that. There is a lot of luck that goes into it. I think it's a lot easier to say that the Colts for instance (who everyone would probably say is a good drafting team) need a center last year, so they go out and draft 3 of them. The Bills need a center, but they also need 10 other things, so it becomes a lot harder to draft 3 centers and still try to fill other positions. What you end up with is trying to make the most of what limited resources you have and making concessions to get the best group as opposed to just focusing on filling a position. Pink-slipping the coach and talking about totally new schemes and personnel are not at all constructive at this time. The Bills are young and learning. They are also undersized for some part. They have spent the last three years acquiring talent that we hadn't had here in a long time: speed. There was a time when our linebackers were getting juked at the goalline by Chad Pennington (worst non-playoff Bills moment ever). It is quite possible that this offseason they finish up the d-line and add a few pieces to the o and have a great chance to really take a step next year. Next year the AFC East even looks easier. Favre is only 50-50 on playing with the Jets next year and they are nowhere near as good without him. The Pats wasted a year of all their old, vetern talent with Brady out. The Dolphins might actually get better... Or fall apart the year after being decent like every Chad Pennington team ever (one year up, one year down). Next year, with some more, continued improvement over the this year, we could be looking pretty good. I say let them have another year of it - maybe do something about the play-calling - and see where this thing goes. They are not that far away from a playoff team, especially with a few new players.

Truly a marquee period in Bills history. We had a real, NFL defense back then. One thing I always wanted them to do more often (f-ing Wade) was to play more 4-3 intermingled with their 3-4 base. Good times.

Sign me up for Peppers, but I'd rather go into the season with Peppers, Schobel and Kelsey or Denny riding the pine. I can't see why, when you are not up against the cap, you cut players that can contribute. Vindiction for a poor contract by management or because you don't like the guy does not help the Bills win.

Good call Dr. It's funny how in the offseason everyone looks at measurables of players and prospects and how they should fit together and then when the season comes, the 5'10" or 11" guy looks like he's 6'4" and a perfect compliment to the rest of our under 6' WR corps.

Are you really trying to say that Kansas City is a better team than Buffalo? I mean, I understand that they nearly won their second game of the season a few times, but they were basically out of the playoffs and in the running for a top 5 pick in the draft when the trade deadline came. Buffalo is still in the playoff race, though not where they were, and only two and a half games out of first in the division. Just cause something is unlikely (Buffalo in playoffs) does not mean it is impossible (KC in playoffs).

I'd go a step further and say that if it weren't for Lynch having a huge game, he would have been the best player on our team last night. The guy covered pretty well. I can't knock a guy for missing that pick either - it was a hell of a play to just get in front of it. And that kick return, had they won, would have been considered the turning point in the game. Talk about timing. This could have been his turn-the-corner game a la Revis about mid-way through last year. I read some one's rant today (can't remember where) about how the Bills have no great players, just a bunch of above average to average guys. The point was that those great players are the ones that the team leans on to make a big play at a crucial time to take over a game. I think it's pretty clear that the Bills don't have that guy (or at least a guy who is ready to be that guy) on the team, but I think that could be Leodis. He just seems to be invloved with the game.

I'd love to see them sign a center and draft a center, just for good measure. It seems like in the past few years the FO has not been drafting decent backup linemen in the mid-to-late rounds. They took Butler and now he starts, but I think they could use a little depth to suplant Whittle/Preston/Fowler as the center/backup guards. I wouldn't mind seeing Preston come back next year, but I definitely want to see two new faces there.

I think Moorman is great and I used to think he was the best punter in the AFC until we played the Raiders. I can definitely see why their guy makes the pro bowl over Moormen - he is amazing. Especially when you consider how much of a joke the Raiders are inside and out, top to bottom.

Not to defend the guy, cause he is a bad sports writer/columist/personality/person, but he might be on to something. Let's not worry about whether he actually has any inside info on the Bills, but instead about his comment. I think it's logical to assume that in the game against the Cardinals this week, the teams biggest worrry has to be its defense considering that Arizona can play offense and has some players (kinda like the Rams), but their defense is terrible. While they might not be the unmitigated mess tha the Rams are, they give up chunks of yardage and points pretty good (see Jets game). I would think that without Big T McGee they would be worried about covering their wideouts. It would be understandable if they had reservations about Leodis lining up across from Fitzgerald in thye nickle package, on the outside on 3rd and long.

The only way it would be a thought would be if Evans is signed to a new deal. Even then it's tough cause I don't know if he is worth $9 million per, even with a monster year and you don;'t want to get stuck with him at that salary.

I think Reed got a lot of undeserved blame when we were losing. Fans wanted him to be a number one WR (or at least a possession-type 2 guy) right away in year 2 (after Peerless left). He wasn't and people gave up on him and even ridiculed Marv when he re-signed him. This is the real question that I've wanted to ask for the past couple of weeks: Has Josh Reed lived up to his second round pick status with the Bills? Or do people still view him as a bust? I personally am of the opinion that it doesn't really matter where you take a guy, as long as he can contribute to the team for more than one contract, he is OK with me. Reed to me was a bit of an enigma in that you could see the talent, but he seemed to have concentration problems; thus not really contributing consistently, but did contribute. So what do you think - bust or no bust?
