  1. why is everyone obsessed with brady quinn? I just do not get it. This guy was good in a system with Weiss but he has proved a far lot less with Cleveland than Trent has with buffalo.

I'm a pretty big Trent fan and think he has shown enough of the signs of being a good NFL qb. He hasn't had a 300yd game which may prove to be more of the team/coach staff issue than anything. It's hard to evaluate Jauron's past because he has such BAD qb's in Chicago. But it's worth noting they had very little success under him. It seems as though Schonert has more experience with offense than his past O-coordinators.

Simply put - trent has more than enough arm strength (his biggest detraction that people ahve on him) and he is a hell of a decision maker. Those are the things we need in a QB. He's not peyton manning but he makes the smart read and yes, check's down often, just as Peyton does. The big difference is Peyton can take that shot at 20-30 yards and Trent needs to develop that. I think this is the year he comes around - this guy is much better than a lot of people on here give him credit for.

He showed what kind of decision maker he was the second half of the year. The guy has no confidence in his arm, thats why he dumps it off all time. When your starting QB doesn't have confidence in himself he shouldn't be starting. That what hurts the running game . The defenses are playing close, because most of the time he will check down. 11 tds by your starting QB, thats terrible.

  2. Trent can be a good quarterback. There are all types of good quarterbacks, and ours just happens to be the kind that needs a little time to throw, and who needs a little more success. It was evident last year he got mentally challenged by being afraid of being hit. He was being pressured a lot and there weren't a lot of open recievers open before he was being chased. And then he got spooked, and for a while he couldn't throw more than a screen pass. I think if he conquers the mental part of it and we give him a little bit of protection, he'll be a damn good QB. He'll never be tough, though, in the sense that he can take a lot of hits. He is just too small framed, physically. We've got to keep him upright. And, I think that can be said of a lot of QB's. Payton Manning could've done more with us last year than Trent did, but he wouldn't have responded mentally like Trent did during that five game stretch in the middle of the season. Hopefully, he's over that susceptibility to fear.

There was open recievers,he just didn't throw it. He rather throw to the running back. Its funny how its everybody else fault for the way Edwards played last year.

  3. Nothing new there - some TO (still?), some Marshawn (still?) and a little Trent. Woodson did question Jauron based on his record and Duke STILL can't fathom that we didn't draft a tackle.

I'm sure it'll be up on nfln.com before too long...

Woodson also said we need a QB. He said Jauron never had a Qb.

  4. You all continue to use partial bits of info to make your argument. Ys Mayock, Kiper and McShay thought he was a good pass rusher, but they all thought he was best suited for OLB in a 3-4, not 4-3 DE due to his lack of bulk.

As for the "consensus of people much smarter than you" (Kiper, Mayock on McShay); Due to the fact he fell to the 4th round, the consensus of people much smarter than you (AKA NFL GMs and coaches), he was a 4th round talent and the 121st pick in the draft.

He is bigger and faster than Schobel. Didn't Schobel go to the pro bowl, like two years ago?

  5. eh, not so much. Grossman was pretty much the reason that Chicago didn't go undefeated.

and to the people that picked JP will be a starter for some team next season- What team is he going to be starting on? That's laughable.

People put down Losman ,yet his only year as a starter, we had a record of 7 wins 9 lost. Last two years with Losman as a backup QB, 7 wins and 9 lost. I don't think Edwards is any better. Look at his play the second half of year. Yea he had a good start, but look who we played againts. Losman had 19 tds his only year as a starter, how many tds did Edwards have the last two years combine. Yea Losman had bad season last year, but 2006 wasn't that bad of a year for him. He is still a young qb. 2007 Losman started 7 games ,those teams had a combine win ,lost record of 61 wins 35 lost. Miami was one of those teams with 1 win, so the rest of the teams had combine 60 wins and 20 lost. That is some tough teams to play againts. And with our overall supporting cast plus our great head coach. I think you'll being to harsh on Losman. Last year he was bad ,but only two starts.

  6. Geez Senator. You might be right but I really don't remember Losman being particularly astute in any aspect, particularly the mental side of the game. He never struck me as a guy who was manipulating the defense with his cadence.

I do know that Trent Edwards was sacked on less than 6% of his pass attempts and that JP was sacked on nearly 13% of his pass attempts so it seems questionable how much the defense was affected by JP's cadence...how much he was keeping them off balance. There are other factors involved of course so this is just an observation.

So Losman got sack alot, so does big Ben. Maybe big Ben holds the ball to long. Maybe Edwards is abetter QB because big Ben gets sack more. Maybe big Ben doesn't make quick enough read. So he is not smart QB, Maybe we don't have good enough overall talent to win games or bad coaching. I say both.

  7. If Jesus Christ was a NFL coach, he won't win consistently with JP. The more years we get away from the 2006 season, we will realize how good of a job Jauron & Fairchild (who is doing an awesome job at CSU) did making him look like a pro QB. It was a miracle.

Dude, Edwards doesn't look any better. How come Jauron couldn't work his magic on him. Edwards got worse as the season went on. 2006 we won more games the second half , than the first half. With Edwards we got worst the second half. Maybe its because teams figured out Edwards or we were out coached the second half.

  8. That after the interview that Jauron gave on ESPN this afternoon...he was taken to the hospital.

The interviewer asked coach Jauron if he thought he had a good draft... Coach Jauron had this unusual expression on his face. It was something only a few people have ever seen before. It was a SMILE ....

I heard they still can not get it off his face.... of course it is only a rumor....

I think he was happy, because he knew that we were going to use all our late round draft choices on defensive backs.

  9. I also think they will not trade him. They need two good tackles. And now they have him. They need a WR....but i am pretty sure they will not accept R. Parrish and Draft Picks. I think we will not do anymore on our OL.

They drafted there starting right tackle last year"Anthany Collins", thats why they released Willie Anderson last year. So now they do have two good tackles. Thats why Levi Jones is up for trade.

  10. Charlie Casserly, the former gm of the Redskins and Texans was interviewed on Sirius NFL's Moving the Chains by Kirwain and Ryan. When Casserly was asked his opinion on the top two offensive tackles (Smith and Monroe), he said that neither guy was an elite talent. He then explained that if Smith and Monroe were part of last year's draft, they would have selected after Clady and Alberts. Meaning they would be mid to late round picks. Of all the opinions I have heard, I respect Casserly's the most. He was an above average to good gm who can state his opinion without bias.

The fear that I now have is that Buffalo will not be able to find an Left Tackle in the draft. I'm sure a good one will emerge, but who? I also think that it is possible that this is a bad year to have multiple picks. I would not be suprised to see teams like the Patriots trade some of their picks in 2009 for 2010 draft picks.

How nice would it be to have guys like Clady and Alberts available this year at 11. I hope the bills can find a star at 11, cross your fingers.

How come Alberts couldn't beat out Monroe at LT in college? Thats why he played guard in college , because Virginia coaches thought Monroe was better.

  11. Let me just say, JP Losman simply has very little football brain cells. He cannot disect a defense the way an NFL QB must in this day and age. He simply does not have it. He has the arm and the legs and the speed, but no brains. TE on the other hand, much like Montana, may not be the strongest or the fastest, but man do his brains make up big time for his physical limitations.

Don't compare him to Montana. He is no Montana. Montana is not going to check down , when he has open receivers down field.

  12. I just saw Ayers on the SportsCenter draft special. He seemed like a very level headed guy, looks big enough, and fast enough to make a great transition to the NFL. A few other Tennessee lineman (Haynesworth, Reggie White) have translated well in the NFL. Who would you pick at 11 out of the DE's? Kiper says Ayers would translate best in a 4-3.

He had only three sacks last year in college. I think we need a pass rusher.

  13. At very worst, Edwards will have a long future in this league as a backup QB. Teams like smart Qbs that can manage games well that can come in a tough spot and not rock the boat too much. Edwards would fit this mold to a t. Guys like Losman and Grossman, who do have 1st round talent but aren't very consistent, will find it tougher to find a backup jobs.

Edwards IMO doesn't take anything off the table. Losman/ Grossman may be able to in theory put more on the table; however, they are also more likely to kock everything off and potentially break the table.

I quest your right , look at our backup QB that we sign this year. Collins with the Redskins.

  14. See, here's the problem I have with the "then they closed up the offense" argument: why would they DO that? Do you honestly think the same OC (Fairchild) who opened up the SAME offense in the second half of '06 and saw the SAME success we all saw, would DELIBERATELY change it BACK before the '07 season? Why would a coach DO that to his promising "named" STARTING QB going into the season? The answer: he didn't. In a nutshell, that OPENED offense everbody alludes to (going deep to Evans), was taken away by opposing DCs. Throw in the fact we didn't have enough complimentary offensive weapons and it was (and STILL is until proven otherwise) VERY easy for teams to stack the LOS, man-over Evans, send pressure and DARE Losman to beat them with another option. JP failed miserably. And assuming that Fairchild/Jauron really handcuffed him when it came to audibles, it's STILL on the QB to say "F-that" if he reads another option and makes plays. Sure the coaches aren't pleased at first but when a QB consistently PROVES he can do it, trust me, they don't mind. EVERY HC, OC, or assistant coach I've ever talked to, the ego-maniacs notwithstanding, WANTS his QB to take the reigns completely. But a QB, especially young ones, have to prove they're up to the task. JP didn't.

    GO BILLS!!!

Same with Edwards, maybe after our 5 and 1 start, teams figured out Edwards .Thats why he sucked so bad after that. Then thats when your coach is suspose to make adjustments in the gameplain to help the QB. I quest Edwards forgot to say ''F-that".

  15. Your wasting your time...Magox thinks Edwards is god like and has been at every level...you can not talk logically with him as logic seems to confuse him so much that he forgets to respond to it...

Doesn't matter what Magox thinks, because after Dick gets fired the next coach will want a differant QB. It seems to happen everytime a new coach comes in. Then we will hear jokes about Edwards playing Canadian fooball or all those same jokes we hear about Losman know.

  16. 1) Peerless Price was a former 1,200 yard receiver and a much better #2 receiver than Reed. People had to respect his speed.

    2) Losman was in his 4th season when he lost his job. Edwards is just starting his 3rd.

    3) If you honestly can make an argument for JP being a good QB after last season, i think you may have lost your mind.

Dude I was joking and also Your right Price was former 1200 reciever who was dump by Atlanta and Dallas before Buffalo sign him ,because nobody else wanted him.

  17. Yeah, it was Orton's 59.7 QB rating and 9 tds to 13 int that led the Bears to the playoffs. I'm sure the #1 ranked defense had nothing to do with it.

And Orton's performance was so impressive he got benched for the playoff game for Rex Grossman, who started 1 game all season.

You said none of those qbs started as a rookie.I told you Orton started. I wonder who his starting recievers were his rookie year. I think Dick was his head coach and A- Train was starting runningback.

  18. I don't really understand your point here. These guys all sat on the bench for a few years before they even palyed. Trent went right into the fire. That is a huge difference between sitting and learning for a few years, or playing in other pro leagues like some of this guys did.

Kyle Orton started as a rookie and the Bears went to the playoffs.
