  1. Today was pro day at Stanford and OT Jonathan Martin I feel did not have a good showing...

    OT Jonathan Martin did 20 reps @ 225 on the bench, ran a 5.33 forty-time, and had a 4.76 short-shuttle time

It would have been better if he did nearer 30 reps and ran close to 5.0 ...

For Buddy Nix to draft Martin at #10 now would be taking a big chance... too risky a pick

This is not to say he would not take him if the Bills move down in the draft...

I would be more apt to say if Buddy goes with a OT at #10 he goes with Cordy Glenn... Glenn is very impressive

OT Riley Rieff will be a very good Guard.. With his short reach he will not be as affective at OT...

Bills may decide to now look at WR Floyd, and a future All Pro Guard in DeCastro...Not a CB in round one.

Demetrius Bell couldn't bench 225 lbs. more than 20 times and he became our starting LT .He got stronger.
  2. What is with he Left Tackle mafia around here lately? LT is NOT the 2nd most important position in the game. Not even close. Joe Thomas, Jake Long, Michael Roos and Jason Peters are the consensus best tackles year after year in the NFL and they never take their teams to the playoffs. A QB who makes quick decisions and has good pocket presence makes his Oline look a lot better.

Here is a stat for you. There hasn't been a OT picked in the first round to start in the super bowl in since 2007. Great teams pick impact players up near the top of the draft.

Wasn't Nate Solder drafted in the first rd by N.E. last year? He started 13 games for N.E. last year at OT. Green Bay drafted OT first the last two years and Bulaga started his rookie year two years ago.

  3. Right. Miller wouldn't HAVE to be replaced or shift to DE but someone else would. If we want to be able to shift between 3-4 and the 4-3 with the existing players on field some LB has to play DE. I was looking for the person that we draft at #3 to be versatile enough to play that role.

Not to be the jerk to tell someone to read the thread before posting but some of those names and this concept was brought up before. Some of the guys you mention are 4-3 OLB which is a different player than a 3-4 OLB. As another poster said before that OLB needs to be almost as big as a 4-3 DE. This is especially important for teams, a lot more than you think, that run a 3-4 4-3 hybrid. Apples and Oranges.

Also stating that some small guys can succeed some how as proof that all small guys can succeed is wrong. Throwing out these few examples doesn't prove anything positive or negative about Miller. What we do know is that the NFL is a big game for big people. Smaller guys have to overcome their lack of size. I would prefer my #3 pick to have as few obstacles to overcome as possible.

Lastly we have also mentioned that all of those guys are pass rush specialists. Our biggest problem by far not just for the defense but for the team is that we can't stop the run. We are TERRIBLE at stopping the run. We need pass rushing pressure but who passes when you can run against us for 4.8 yds/carry? My hope would be to get a guy that is better suited physically to play 3-4 OLB, 4-3 DE, can rush the passer AND defend the run. I don't think Miller will be that guy. I think a guy like Quinn could be.

Aaron Schobel was about 246 lbs when he played DE and played the run very good ,yes he played DL . Some guys are small and can still be a good againts the run regardless of position he plays. Kyle Williams is considered small for a nose tackle but plays with alot of heart. A guy right out of college can get bigger in the pros like Ware who was 250 when out of college and now 260 lbs. Not everybody is Maybin. Robrt Quinn could be another Vernon Gholston. Is he good againts the run? Just because he is bigger ,doesn't mean he is better againts the run.

  4. If you look back when DeMarcus Ware was drafted , he was about 250 lbs. and now is 262 lbs. And when Shawne Merriman was drafted he was at 249 lbs. and now he is 265 lbs. Miller could play the will linbacker, and then when he puts on weight we could move him to sam linebacker. Will linebacker is were James Harrison plays at 240 lbs , Clay Matthews at 250 lbs, Lance Briggs at 240 lbs, Elvis Dumervil plays at 248 lbs, Keith Rivers 240 lbs and Leroy Hill 238 lbs play. They are all outside linebackers. Know if these linebackers would want to come play at Buffalo, would you guys be happy or mad if they would sign one of these linebackers? They are all to 250 lbs and under. And I know that Patrick Willis plays middle linebacker, but they still have centers and guards coming at them on running plays and still have to blitz sometimes.

  5. Patrick Willis is 6' 1" 240 lbs. He is smaller than Miller and plays middle linebacker and is considered by many to be one of the best young linebackers in football. You can look in the NFL and see alot good linebackers that are at the 240 lb range. Briggs from Chicago 240 lbs, Dumervil 248 lbs, Bart Scott 240 lbs, Vilma 230 lbs and Jon Beason 237 lbs. I think Miller will be a good pick. This is a good draft for DL. Draft linebacker first and draft dl in second and later. Mayock likes Miller, and I think he knows what he talking about. Millers coach at Tesxas A&M compares him to Derrick Thomas.

  6. I couldn't help but think of how good Flynn looked against New England recently. I was hoping the difference between Flynn and Brohm was negligible and Brohm would have been produced 'something' on the field. I was wrong.

I too have seen enough.

Lets see how Flynn would look againts N.E. with two practice squaud recievers and a number one reciever who drops alot a balls. I wish we had the recievers that Green Bay has, we would had a couple more wins.

  7. Actually, if Fitz continues to play at this level I would rather see the Bills use Fitz as their stop-gap and groom Levi for the QB of the future. I know he was a 7th round pick, but so what? During the games of the Pre-Season some of the analysts were saying that Levi had the best arm and size for a QB on the team but needed to grow into the position. Well, if Fitz continues to play well and the Bills can win some games, that would buy Levi this year and maybe another two to "grow" into the QB position, and imagine this....keeping the same freakin offensive system that would allow Levi to mature into it and take the reigns in a few years. Just a thought...especially if the Offense continues to play at this level, that would mean with Easely returning next year, and David Martin and Shawn Nelson along with Stupar, that O-line depth is needed but that the real playmakers needed would be on Defense; gap eating NT, DE and a couple of stud LBs....time will tell

I agree, look at the ravens the year they won the Superbowl. They had a great defense with Dilfer managing the offense. Fitz could be our Dilfer. Build up the defense.

  8. Funny how this is a hate trent forum, but no one has commited on how terrible the run game was... or how completely terrible the blocking was. It must be super easy to blame one person.. who are u people kidding, the whole offense sucked. Get over ur hatred, the guy is the only one who scored a td. Jesus.

The running game was bad ,because Edwards didn't scare them. Didn't you hear the anouncers, The dolphins were playing man To man on the receivers ,with everybody else was up at the line of scrimage to stop the run. They were daring us to throw the ball.

  9. The thing that I don't understand about Green Bay was, Why do you draft a QB in the second rd in the first place when you had Aaron Rodgers there for three years behind Brett Favre. You seen Aaron in practice and during preseason games, You should know what kind Qb you have yet they still draft Qb in second rd.

  10. That's easy. However some Brohm apologists , I'm not saying you since I don't follow who is the poster on most posts, are spinning like tops trying to defend the reasons why he ended up here. Some will use the match excuse as you did, but the simplest answer is that they were just trying to protect their insurance policy of a 3rd QB on the practice squad who actually knew the system for the rest of the 2009 season because bringing in someone new, which they ended up doing twice after Brohm came here because the 1st new guy signed with another team's 53, required teaching someone new the system, making that guy as worthless to GB as Brohm was to the 2009 Bills. (Funny, the Brohm apologists use Brohm was too new in the system as an excuse for the Atlanta debacle, but can't grasp why GB preferred their insurance QB to know their system).

I've often answered that question with the insurance premise & then asked -If they were so high on Brohm then why didn't they try to exceed the Bills offer. So far nobody has come up with a real answer to that one. The typical Brohm guy answer is "why would they exceed the offer if he was 3rd & would never start over Rodgers?" That answer backs my answer the Packers only were looking at Brohm's 2009 insurance value & nothing more.

The Brohm apologists have spun in different directions in the same threads. The best oxymoronic spin is the Packers didn't have the roster space to keep 3 QBs and that's the only reason Brohm was cut in September, but then they cite the "match offer". They claim the match offer is proof the Packers valued Brohm, yet this is the same team that valued him so much they were willing to get NOTHING in return when they waived him. Once again that logic only backs my insurance premise. Sure you can spin it that the spot opened up due to guys going on IR as the season progressed, but the bottom line is they did not do anything to protect their interests in Brohm until the Bills' offer-once again confirming the only interested in 2009 in season insurance premise.

Then there are the ones (like above) who will list all these UFAs & late picks who flew under the radar, got cut & either were picked up on waivers or spent time on a practice squad & then made it big. What they fail to understand is that 2nd round QBs are on everyone's radar & they don't fly under the radar like these UFAs & late round guys do. The chance of a guy who was already under the radar succeeding are much better that an early round bust, especially at the QB spot, who got waived already. Just look at how many shots the 1st round busts get-I can't remember any recent 1st round QB bust making it after his 1st team waived him, even though other teams have tried with guys like Leaf, Harrington, McNow, Couch, and of course our two poster boys that each cost us a 1st -Rob Johnson & JP Losman. Sometimes I think the Brohm guys are closet JP guys who have finally moved on to a new lost cause. (That is until we get the posts from the JP diehards claiming he'll now emerge as the man in Seattle)

Then there are the worse ones-the ones who don't even know that Brohm was waived, cleared waivers by all other 31 teams, then landed on the practice squad. They say things like "He was never waived, we got him off their practice squad". Those people who don't know how he got to the practice squad can't be reasoned with.

I've written off Brohm because history tells us that there are virtually no mistakes when a team lets a high picked QB leave with no compensation (unless he's a veteran salary cap dump, often on his 2nd or 3rd contract). There are plenty of late round mistakes because the guys are not scrutinized as closely, explaining the Warners, Bulgers, Hasselbecks, and Moores etc.

How about Trent Dilfer, he was cut by two teams before winning a Superbowl with Baltimore Ravens. I think he was a first round bust with Tampa Bay. And Doug Williams with the Redskins. I know Williams was in the 90's ,but that was two I could think off.

  11. I'm sorry but you don't really believe that crap do you? The Bills sabotaged Losman??? :w00t: How about his lack of decision making, leadership, and ability to complete any pass besides throwing the ball up as far as he could and hope Lee Evans catches it. In his "breakout" season, here are the game logs: http://www.nfl.com/players/j.p.losman/game...amp;season=2006

He had 2 or more turnovers in 7 games. He passed for 200 or less yards in 10 games (and I gave him credit for an amazing 207 performance). The teams he had his best games against (Hou, and Mia) were among the worst defenses in the NFL that year.

I really don't hate Losman. But I hate that people still make excuses. He killed Mularkey, who has succeed with every QB he has had besides Losman and Joey Harrington. But I guess there's people in Detroit who blame Harrington not succeed on everything besides the actual player himself.

I wish my girlfriend was as naive as Losman fans. I could cheat on her all the time and she'd forgive me and make excuses for it.

In 2006 ,the final nine games of the season. Losman was second in the NFL with a 5.6 t.d. percentage. I don't know, but is that good? They also played 8 games againts playoff teams that year, thats half our games. We had a tough schedule that year. So I don't think he had that bad of a year. I think the combine win and lost record of the teams we played aganst in 2006 was 147 Wins and 109 Lost.

  12. Do the G-Men have any extra LT's just sitting around not doing anything? ;-)

I'm still hoping the Bills will call up their buddy AJ Smith in San Diego and see if they can get a deal done to bring McNeill to Buffalo ....

How about William Beatty? He was one of the tackles in last year draft, that I was hoping Buffalo would draft, but we didn't . The Giants drafted him in the second round last year.

  13. Yeah, what were they thinking last year spending 2 high picks on the offensive line? they shouldn't do things like that!

I'm Talking Offensive tackle. You think we would been a better team last year if we drafted Oher? What about our QB play last year if we had a left tackle?

  14. N.O. just grabbed Brown. Crap.

    Well, on to round 3.

We are not going to get any good offensive tackles. They'll draft some project in the seventh round. Untill we get a real GM , we will never have a good offensive line. We haven't had a good offensive line since Polian was here.

  15. I agree with pretty much all of what you said. I didn't mean simply value chart. We have so many needs I hate to see us give up a second and third this year to move up for Okung. We won't be able to get any other top talent, and with all of our holes, I can't see justifying that. Now, here's a dream scenario. Buffalo is able to get Bulaga or Trent Williams at 9, Terrence Cody at 41 and Linval Joseph in the third. Buffalo needs two NTs and Cody and Joseph serve different purposes and that would be a hell of a rotation at NT. Then you get the LT we need plus filling the NT rotation.

Never going to happen but that would be a hell of a draft for the DL and OL. Here's to wishful thinking.

I said this before, How about trading Lynch and our first to Detroit for Peterson and there first. Draft Okung with that pick. Okung is the only sure thing at left tackle in the draft.

  16. I say trade Lynch and our 1st to Detroit for Peterson and there first. Draft Russell Okung ot. Draft QB in second . Don't like Clausen, rather take my chances on Tebow or McCoy in second or Skelton later and draft DL in second rd. Maybe move back in first Rd. and draft Jared Odrick. Okung is the best left offense tackle in draft. Too many question with the other OTs. Like to get Jared Veldheer later, we need two OTs in this draft.
