I thought Dareus' play last year was nothing special but this year he's been horrid. Then again, it seems to be an epidemic on this defense.
Could you imagine having Watt or even A Smith instead?
If you are referring to the "can't hit below the knee" rule then that rule was enforced/implemented as a result of Carson Palmer's knee blowout in '06 which happened BEFORE Brady got hurt in '08.
This has nothing to do with Brady. It has to do with Fitz and whether or not the league felt Cunningham hit him below the knees and should be fined.
At this point any conspiracy theories involving the refs favouring the Pats in order to allow them an easier time of winning the ball game are long gone. The game is over and the league is determining whether or not to fine a player. Unless your point is the league favours the Pats when it comes to handing out fines .... post ballgames!
I don't see the hit on Fitz as being below the knees. It certainly isn't as obvious as the Williams hit which was clearly a below the knee incident. I'm sure the league would have fined Cunningham if they felt it was a below the knee play!
This video shows that Williams clearly hits Brady below the knees while it shows that Cunningham hits Fitz above his knees, in the quad/hamstring area.
As per the rules, only one of those tackles is deemed illegal; the one below the knees.
You mean the Cunningham hit in the 2nd? The replay I saw showed Fitz getting hit in the quad/hamstring area. It looked bad because Fitz fell backwards.
The point of the rule is to avoid having to determine intent. The rule is very specific and known to all players; hit a QB below the knees while he is in the pocket and it's a penalty and almost certainly a fine.
If the commish can fine Belicheck $50k for touching an official's arm then $15k for hitting a QB in the knee is a deal and a half.
Since Carson Palmer's injury years ago the league has been emphatic that you can't hit a QB who is in the pocket below the knees. Williams knows this yet he still hit Brady below the knees. As such he should get fined.
Yes but the Giants didn't have to blitz Brady in order to get constant pressure. They did with a 4 man front (of DE's).
Maybe Wanny did watch these tapes and figured he could do the same. Only problem is the Bills don't have a NASCAR package of DE's like what the Giants have and so couldn't pull it off.
Gang, the 1 and only time Wanny blitzed Brady tossed the TD to Lloyd! So, blitzing the guy didn't work either.
When you go up against a HOF QB like Brady, more often than not, he's gonna kill you no matter how you defend him.
Indeed, the Pats offense was never challenged in this game.
Further, the 1 time Wanny called a blitz in this game, Brady ate him up with the TD pass to Lloyd.
It's a conundrum defending Brady. Sit back and let him pick you apart slowly but surely (like he did for much of Sunday) or blitz him and let him kill you instantly (like he did with that TD pass to Lloyd).
Sure it's all well and good to blitz in order to create confusion and QB pressure but, the reason why you grab top pass rushing DE's (and pay them $135 million), is so that you don't have to blitz in order to get pressure on the QB.
All that happened is the Pats offense stopped making critical mistakes (Gronks drops, 2 missed FG's) in the 2nd half. Either that or they woke up at halftime and realized that they were in a football game.
Very good point.
According to http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/52404/patriots-brady-return-to-past-success
The Patriots gained 200 of their 247 rushing yards between the tackles, the third-highest yardage total of any team since the start of the 2008 season.
Fitz is nothing more than a tease. An inconsistanet one at that.
I'm not proposing that the Bills don't aspire to find a capable QB. I'm sure they realize Fitz isn't the answer for them to be able to go head to head against Brady and win. I'm simply stating the obvious .... any AFCE team that wants to win this division has to have a QB that can perform to a high standard, on a consistent and regular basis, in order to outdual Brady. Said QB can't be a Jekyl and Hyde guy like Fitz.
Alex Smith is a much better QB that Fitz is.
So long as Brady is in this division anyone with an average QB or less can kiss dethroning the Pats as division champs.
Solder has been VG at LT. It's the right side of the line where the Pats have had issues. RG is troublesome at the moment and Vollmer is still being slowly introduced back into the RT spot after missing all of camp.
