  6. Broncos dump cornerback Bly By Mike Klis The Denver Post The Broncos' new management team is finishing up its evaluation of the defense. And the defensive players aren't faring well. The latest casualty was veteran cornerback Drè Bly, who was notified of his release this evening. Bly becomes the Broncos' fifth defensive starter who was cut in the past two days by head coach Josh McDaniels, defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and general manager Brian Xanders. The other defensive starters cut Monday were Dewayne Robertson, John Engelberger, Jamie Winborn and Marquand Manuel. Backup middle linebacker Niko Koutouvides was also released and the Broncos are not expected to re-sign defensive lineman Ebenezer Ekuban, safety Marlon McCree, or middle linebacker Nate Webster, who will become free agents Feb. 27. Bly was scheduled to make a $3.25 million salary plus $400,000 with a workout bonus this year after making a combined $18.8 million the previous two seasons. Any thoughts on at least bringing in Bly for a visit?
  7. Terrence McGee should have his days limited as a Bill. Once he got hurt he was getting burnt espcially noticed in Ted Ginn Jr.'s game against the Bills in Miami (7 catches 175 yards). Ginn Jr. highlites against McGee He hasn't played a full 16 game season since 2004. He could be valuable to a team that needs a good return guy. He still has posted decent numbers, but they are dropping.
  8. LIONS LEANING TO CULPEPPER By Mike Florio on February 15, 2009 As the Detroit Lions prepare to improve on the worst single season in the history of the NFL (if not all pro sports), they’ll apparently do so with Daunte Culpepper taking the snaps. Former Lions receiver Mike Furrey told Alex Marvez and Ross Tucker of Sirius NFL Radio on Sunday morning that other quarterbacks on the roster have been told that Culpepper will be the starter. This could mean that the Lions will target in the first round of the draft a quarterback, despite any lingering urges to take a wideout. Then again, it’s not as if the franchise has mastered the art of snagging signal-callers in round one. Over the past 40 years, they’ve taken three: Joey Harrington, Andre Ware, Chuck Long. Well, maybe they’re due. Culpepper is due to receive a $2.5 million roster bonus later this month, so if he’s not cut before then it’s a pretty safe bet that, indeed, he’ll be the No. 1 guy in 2009.
  9. SI.com's Tony Pauline expects USC MLB Rey Maualuga to skip the position workouts at next week's NFL Combine. The linebacker drills test explosiveness, ball skills, change of direction, and lateral movement. Maualuga's ability to play on three downs is in question, so it's surprising he wouldn't want to show that he can cover. Linebackers that only play on first and second down don't usually go in the first round.
  10. The Bears have "decided to cut ties with" nine-year veteran FS Mike Brown. This was expected, as GM Jerry Angelo said a month ago that he couldn't envision a scenario where Brown would return. Angelo is high on Danieal Manning, who is expected to be moved into Brown's starting role. With his injury history, Brown will likely have to accept a short-term, incentive-laden deal elsewhere. Chicago Tribune Article Anyone interested in bringing him in. He's a veteran and could be reunited with Dicky boy.
  11. I wouldn't mind Vince. He still has something left in the head, and could be a good backup/starter for Edwards.
  12. After watching Leftwich come in to replace Roethlisberger in some places he still shows he can sling the ball down he field, oh wait Buffalo throwing the ball down the field to Evans is not existant.
  13. I was reading the Pitttsburgh Tribune-Review and Kevin Gorman reports Buffalo Bills quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt may be a candidate for the offensive coordinator position at the University of Pittsburgh. Pitt Trib-Review Article
  14. A team that was filled with veterans a year ago could be the young pups on the block. The Baltimore Sun says it's "fair to assume" that the Ravens will not bring back CB Samari Rolle in 2009. This would make cornerback a huge need are. Taking a corner with the No. 26 overall pick is a definite possibility for Baltimore. Fabian Washington can replace Rolle, but the Ravens would need a big corner like Vontae Davis (Illinois) to take fellow soon to be cap casualty Chris McAlister's place. Any thoughts?
  15. I think that if we go kicker we should get the kicker from West Virginia Pat MacEfee. Bironas would be an upgrade though, Lindell was solid but missed to many important kicks.
  16. I watched this kid play at Penn State and he was a beast there, a real hardworker.
  17. Maybin may have the speed but is to small and will be manhandled, should have stayed another year.
