I Wonder Where All The Russ Brandon And The FO Sucks
Steely Dan replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm a moron and yet you can't use the quote feature for your posts? Ok, now that the personal attacks are out of the way lets see what I think of your post in a rational way. First, you can't judge Hardy based on one injured year. Chris Ellis I'll agree with you on. I hated the pick on draft day last year and I don't feel any better about it today. However it's too soon to really write him off. McKelvin wasn't needed to start last year and if a team can bring a rookie along slowly then they do because that is the best way to treat a rookie. Eddie Royal is 5'10" and the Bills need a taller receiver. That's why they took Hardy over Royal. The LB question is probably best answered by someone familiar with the Bills draft board and what was left after they addressed a lot of other needs. -

After he stops laughing we'll decide. However, that's gonna be a long time from now. -

I'm merely pointing out he's doing better than many thought. You're right that time will tell for sure. I'm just saying that a lot of people here expected his two drafts to be just like the Faders last two drafts and he is doing a things a lot smarter than a lot of people want to give him credit for. He's a much better talent evaluator than people wanted to believe. The players have yet to prove anything on the field but his drafts and offseasons have been handled well. JMO OOPs! The point is the same though. Since 8 of ten picks were on the 53 man roster it's definitely an upgrade over what they had going into the draft. JMO. -

The majority of people aren't happy with the draft? If you go to the Bills.com website you'll see that 82% of the people who responded rated it an A or B. Also as the poll here stands at 11 who think he's doing very well, 15 that are starting to warm up to him and only 6 who think he sucks. I don't see how you can read those as thinking he sucks. -

Linky Dilfer tabs Bills as big draft winners Chris Brown Posted April 26th, 2009 Tags: NFL Draft ESPN NFL analyst Trent Dilfer tipped his hat to the Bills saying they had the best draft of any team in the league. Here’s what he had to say at the draft’s conclusion. “Winners to me are the teams that help themselves next year,” said Dilfer. “They get guys that will help them next year. I look at Philly, New England, Green Bay, San Francisco, Cleveland, but to me the big winner was the Buffalo Bills. You got guys that will contribute right away…I really think that the Buffalo Bills did a great job with helping them win football games next year.” I'm not saying the draft "will" be great just that right now the vast majority of draft pundits think it was great. Would you be all over him if he had a Faders draft? I'm just pointing out it's too early to judge him as a total incompetent when it seems that he's doing a lot right. The extension to Jauron was given to him when the team was 5-1. It's not Jauron's job to tell a coach what offense or defense to use. Saying the 3-4 is the best defensive philosophy is based on very little thought IMO. Any system will work if the team gets the right guys for it. Wade Phillips never saw the 3-4 and 4-3 as that much different. -

The thread asks where all of those people have gone. It was fairly easy to find them before this draft but they seem to be harder to find now, especially the vocal ones. -
I need a cold towel and to lie down. I can't believe that I agree with Deerbal here.

Why do feel that way about ESPN?

How can anyone say he sucks when two offseasons seem to be being handled well. If the guys they drafted bust then it is their fault but right now most people think that "on paper" the Bills had a great draft. My point is that he's doing a much better job than the people who call for his head think he's doing. So far he's looking really good to me. How someone can say the Bills need a new GM and he sucks is beyond my comprehension. If in three years the Bills are no better off then an argument can be made about him but right now he looks good to me. Also, the previous nine years have nothing to do with him. JMO -

And a punch in the noggin by my cat! Man two years after being drafted in the second round ahead of TE he's let go. -
It seems the majority of Bills fan's are very happy with the draft now. A lot of people were saying that the Bills needed a better GM than they have and yet the vast majority are happy with the draft. If approx. 70% of the drafted guys pan out that will give Brandon his second successful draft in a row pending some injured guys to show us what they've got. A lot of people loved his draft last year too. They got McKelvin, Hardy, Ellis, Fine, Corner, Bell, Johnson and Omon to stick on the 53 man roster last year. The jury is out on Bowen. That's 8 out of 10 picks with one pick who was injured in TC so he at least batted 80% last year in his draft to improve the team. He also traded for Marcus Stroud and got rid of the on field and in the locker room cancer JP. He signed TO, Dominic Rhodes, Hangartner and Ryan Fitzpatrick in the offseason. What's left open now is an OLB and LT. The OLB may have been addressed during the draft and the LT who's a solid starter may already be on the roster. Overall I think he's done a B+ job since taking over last year. JMO What's your opinion?

What is our biggest post draft (that's PD Deano) need?
Steely Dan replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LT I would almost put LB in a tie with LT but LT edges it out because TE is brittle. What he said. My full offseason need list is in this order, for starters and backups, and how they have been addressed so far: LT - Still needed. DE - May have been solved through the draft. C - May have been solved through FA and the draft. OLB - May have been solved through the draft but iffy. TE - May have been solved through the draft. DT -Still needed. G's - May have been solved through the draft. S - May have been solved through the draft. ILB - Still needed. FB - Still needed. CB - May have been solved through the draft. WR - May have been solved through FA. RB - May have been solved through FA. QB - May have been solved through FA. -
You do have to take into account that Jauron doesn't cheat.

Jauron is a great guy and I posted last year that continuity is one of the most important things for a team to succeed. However, after going 4-1 in the first five games to 3-8 after the bye is inexcusable IMO. A lot of people were saying that the Bills were playing over their heads in the first five games. If Jauron had gone 6-5 over the next 11 games it would have been disappointing but it would've been enough for me to stick with him unapologetically. 3-8 in my mind is horrible. This is his do or die year. It doesn't help the Bills are in a division that has two teams that went 11-5 and one team that went 9-7 but if the Bills want to be successful they'll have to beat teams like that. I think that statement was proven wrong in the first four games of last year. I will say after the bye they did seem to be a much different team. JP's abilities as a QB are evidenced by the almost total lack of interest from any of the NFL teams since he became a FA. I think Jauron was trying to stick to developing a highly regarded first round pick but try as he might, in reference to JP's on field play only, he couldn't polish a turd. I think game plan trickery is very underrated by this coaching staff. They tend to just do things the old fashioned way every play. A good team should be able to do that. Some players have said that the other team could be told the play before hand and the guys should still be able to execute it. Still a little different trickery like two or three times a game helps a lot. I.E. the wildcat last year. It gives the opposing team each week a little more to plan for ahead of time.

I wonder how many teams contacted him for a contract. It seems Buffalo would be a huge difference in weather for the guy.

The Stupidest Faders Pick Was Not Heyward-Bay
Steely Dan posted a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Linkage "Should I be near a phone the next time the Raiders pick? Maybe they'll pick me.'' -- Tweet from sahyder1 to me on Twitter at 9:09 p.m. ET Saturday, following the Raiders' reach for wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey at 7 and the strangest pick of Day 1, safety Michael Mitchell, at No. 47 overall. How strange? Mitchell was the 73rd-rated safety on ESPN draftnik Mel Kiper's board. Not the 73rd-rated player. Genius Al strikes again! -
I agree with you except for guys that have a long history of injuries. I wouldn't have drafted Ellis last year because of injury concerns. If a team drafts them and they get injured he's a bust IMO by the FO and not so much by the player. He finished the season on the injury list. If that was for a legitimate injury or just to make room for another roster spot I don't know. Either way it doesn't bode well.
