  1. Keeping debt does not really increase your credit any. Go to http://www.myfico.com to get some more info. Pay it off as soon as possible BUT make sure you keep enough in savings in case you have trouble getting a job, get into an accident and have to take a lot of time off of work, etc, etc. The general rule is 3-6 months post-tax salary. Once you have the nestegg, pay off the rest of the debt ASAP (but don't skimp on 401(k), ROTH, etc) CW
  2. Those cameras were declared illegal in Minnesota last week.

  4. To "lockdown" the campus, you still need to be able to communicate with 26000 students instantly, since you don't know who's on campus and who's not. Not only that, but to do a true lockdown, you then need to blockade all the roads around the campus, put up a perimeter to stop someone from entering/leaving on foot. It'd be near impossible, and not practical in the least. It's telling that AJ and some of the other jokers aren't making any comments on my previous post about shutting down a small town if someone is found murdered in the town. They're not commenting because it's stupid and doesn't make sense. This isn't a one building school we're talking about, it's a 2600 acre university. CW
  5. Don't bother, he's one of the idiots who thinks they really should lockdown everything, even though he's ignored multiple requests as to how and why..
  6. If you feel that way, then you obviously believe that all cities should be locked down whenever there's a murder, right? Read my previous post.
  7. You've obviously never been on a large commuter campus before. I went to the University of Minnesota (largest campus in the country) and there's no way in hell they could lock down the whole campus. It's impossible. Let's put it another way. I live in a city of about 11,000 people, less than half the size of VT. If someone comes into my house and kills my wife and I, should the whole city be locked down? Because you know, that person could go into the local grocery store and gun down 33 more people. If that does happen, are you saying the mayor of the city and the police chief should both be put in prison? Sounds crazy, no? I don't see how it's much different. Why can't people just accept that bad things can happen and there isn't necessarily anyone to blame (except the person who pulled the trigger!)?
  8. Jack Thompson, an anti-videogame lawyer is already blaming "murder simulators" like Grand Theft Auto
  9. There's a huge difference between a small school like RPI and a large commuter school like VT. RPI only has roughly 6000 students, and most of them are on-campus. VT has over 25,000 students. CW
  10. Is that the National Enquirer of Russia?
  11. I don't know if you can make that assumption, actually... I heard someone in Boston watched the movie, saw a couple of "Mooninites" on the screen and called the bomb squad out of fear.
  12. They really need to work on word clarity when it gets fast... I misread the word again to lose I placed 42nd this time -- 2125.... I'll try again tomorrow, I want #1
  13. 1116 When the words start scrolling by quickly, it's hard to see what they actually are to type them
  14. Swarm usually get between 7500-10000 per game. Not as good as the Bandits usually get, but not bad. They had over 14,000 last night, the largest crowd in franchise history (3 years), so that's good -- however, Lockheed Martin did give military families 4000 tickets, so that factored into it. Attendance has been pretty stable for the whole three years, so I think they'll be stable for quite awhile. I just wish that they'd start doing a bit more marketing. I'm a little worried with all of the expansion though... Hopefully they don't grow too much, too fast. CW
  15. I was a Bandits fan when I lived in Buffalo (went to the first ever game at the Aud -- 4 rows from the glass, it was a blast!). But since I moved out of state in '94, only a couple of years after the team formed, I don't really feel too much of an attachment to the team. When Minnesota got a team, I bought season tickets on day 1 because the sport is awesome to watch. I still have a hard time rooting against Buffalo when they play here, but what can you do? I hadn't heard about the injury -- that definitely makes things interesting. Our backup goalie (Matt Disher) was really good in season 1, but hasn't played too well this year. Good thing Nick Patterson has played well. I hope your first round predictions are right (actually, I hope Toronto wins too... But I don't think that's gonna happen ). Are you going to the game Sunday? CW
  16. I know a few people have said that they're LAX fans, so figured I'd mention this in case some people didn't know. Buffalo's beaten the Swarm twice this season, as well as in the first round of the playoffs last season. It's not looking good for Minnesota... If you're in the area, you should check the game out - it's an awesome sport to watch live, and the tickets are relatively cheap (assuming you can get 'em in Buffalo -- they usually have a large crowd there). Here's some pictures I took from last night's Minnesota vs Arizona game. The Swarm scored a goal with 0.8 seconds left to win the game. Good stuff http://www.fezam.com/gallery/view_album.ph...ng07&page=1 Here's some pictures from the Swarm vs the Toronto Rock from a few weeks ago: http://www.fezam.com/gallery/view_album.ph...ame=SwarmRock07 Enjoy. CW
  17. Stevestojan work for Geico as well if I remember correctly.
  18. Yeah, but were they talking to YOU, or were they pointing at you from afar and talking amongst themselves?
  19. Well technically, Alaska is the eastern most state in the Union since the Aleutian Islands stretch into the eastern hemisphere...
  20. And for those who can't watch on TV, here's the net link: http://www.comcast.net/sports/nhl/hockeylive/ CW
  21. Even worse, the two guys I work with on my team had never even HEARD of Vonnegut... Or Slaughterhouse-Five! What the hell?!?! My favorites were Slaughterhouse-Five and Hocus Pocus. I thought HP was cool for the weird way it was written and presented - on "scraps of numbered paper." Pretty awesome.
  22. Family > Game 1 of round 1 Game 7 of Finals > Family
  23. But we've never won the Cup, so how lucky are they...?
  24. A very interesting man. http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/books/04/1...t.ap/index.html I had to read Slaughterhouse-Five in college and actually really enjoyed it (unlike most of the other American fiction I read that semester). I read a couple more of his books after that, and they're very good - I especially liked Hocus Pocus, very unique. He didn't die in a plane crash at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, but he didn't commit suicide either, so he got it half right this time.
  25. Don't be silly, watching HDTV is #3 on his list.
