  1. What food bank do you work at? I'm thinking about joining and would like to ask the organizer some questions about it before I start.....
  2. You are a very smart man. Wish I had done the same. After the Cylon occupation, it went down the drain, IMHO. Yeah, they said something like that.
  3. Actually, the first season or two had very little religion. My opinion is that they just started using religion as a crutch when they wrote themselves into a corner. "Hmmm, how do we explain this...? I know, they'll be ANGELS!!!!" Go back and re-watch some episodes from season 1 and tell me that the "angel" motif still works. Why is the Six "angel" always fraking Baltar? It was the lame way out.
  4. Plotholes the size of potholes in WNY.... And you're wrong -- BSG: The Plan is coming out in fall. We'll get to see the Cylons plan to destroy Caprica! Woohoo!
  5. I thought it was lame, just like the past 2 seasons have been. You just CAN'T make up major plot points as you go (like the final 5). The writing just wasn't very tight. Why the heck did they bring up Daniel, a potential 13th Cylon, a few weeks ago? Nothing came of it. What the heck is/was Thrace? I guess an angel, but different than the other two? Sure, whatever. 150,000 years later? Yeah, ok. What was the point of the multiple flashbacks? Do I care that Roslin slept with one of her students? How did it add to the story at all? Hera was completely overstated -- "she's the savior!" All she did was run away from people... What's the point? The last 30 minutes, watching everyone wander around the planet, was just plain dull and not very realistic. "Let's abandon all technology and medicine! Yay, us!!!" I enjoyed the first couple of seasons, but after that it was obvious that they were just throwing things against a wall, seeing what would stick, and going from there. The Cylons had a plan. The writers didn't, and that's just sad. PS: I liked one comment I read that said, "I want to watch a slapstick comedy of the trials and tribulations of the Centurions in space!"

  7. So by your own admission, there were 6 things you felt the Bills needed to do this offseason in order to try making the playoffs... They've now addressed 17% of the puzzle with many months to go before the season starts (including an entire draft), and you're complaining....?

  9. So you're sick, maybe deathly ill. You desperately need medical care. You walk into the doctor, emergency room, etc, and they say "Sign here." You're going to walk out? Regardless -- there are certain rights that you can't sign away, no matter what you sign. For example, in Minnesota, a landlord can put a clause in your lease that says, "I have the right to enter the property at any time for any reason." However that's unenforcible, and they can be sued every instance they enter your apartment without permission, regardless of whether you agreed to it in the lease or not. (and you thought I was going to talk about sat dishes when I mentioned landlords, didn't you? ).

  11. Wow, I'm surprised to read that people are ok with throwing away their First Amendment rights....

  14. http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/index.jsp Oh come on, like nobody saw that one coming from me?!? Thanks for the heads up - programming my DVR through DirecTV's website as we speak.
  15. I pick the left, no, wait, the right nostril!
  16. Yeah, the Kindle and its ilk are definitely a luxury item, but there are a lot of free books you can download for it as well... But it'd take a long time to make up for the initial price tag.
  17. You're changing your argument though -- you said: If you don't want to buy a device like the Kindle because of the cost, that's an entirely different arguement -- but one that won't hold weight a few years down the road when the cost of the technology drops to mass consumption levels. I'm simply challenging statements like yours (and others) who say that reading off of a monitor sucks -- it does, and that's why there's the eInk technology available which looks very similar to actual print.
  18. Everybody keeps making these comments in this thread, but they really need to look at the new technology. It's not looking at a computer screen to read a book anymore; with the right device, it looks like real ink/paper.
  19. It's not even just the government -- it's corporations as well. Good story!
  20. Yeah, the Kindle isn't in color either
  21. Yup, you can already do that for some newspapers and magazines.
  22. For those who don't know anything about the Kindle: http://www.pcworld.com/article/159218/amaz..._the_e_ink.html
  23. Another good option is Windows Home Server. One of the features it provides is whole system backup -- so you install a system from scratch, tell WHS to back it up and keep that backup forever. When you want to rebuild, just use that original install. Other added benefits are: Automatic backups of all files on your system, the ability to go back in time with files (ie: you modify a file and realize a day later that you didn't want to make that change -- you can roll it back to before you made the change), "mirroring" of all files on the server (if you have at least two disks), etc. Very handy - and only $100 (plus the cost of another computer -- but if you have an old one laying around, you can easily use that -- WHS doesn't use many resources).
  24. Why wouldn't you post them in the thread asking for suggestions....?
  25. My wife loves to read as well -- and she said the same thing about the Kindle when she first heard about it. Then her dad bought one, she tried it out, and he's lucky she didn't take it with her on the way out the door. Her parents ended up buying her one for Xmas, and she just received it a couple of weeks ago (the old model wasn't available for many months, and the new model just shipped). She loves the thing -- and has already read 5-6 books on it in that two week period. It's NOTHING like reading on a monitor/laptop. It's thin, light (10 ounces), has no backlight, and the print looks similar to what you'd see on a real book because of it. Even better, you can adjust the font size. You should see if you know anybody who has one to see what you think of it because my wife was a convert after doing that. That said, libraries aren't going anywhere for awhile. Like LA said, they're always packed and offer more than just books. I'm glad my wife doesn't go anymore - she has a bad habit of getting a bunch of books, reading them, then not returning them. I think we owe the library $90 right now With the late fines she's paid, they should re-name it after her.
