  1. And when male genitalia's around, Ed's sure to be right in front...
  2. It's a photographic artifact.
  3. That shows that he has one foot down before his hand hit out of bounds. Not both.
  4. I know, but I still had to beg to satisfy Ed's desperate cringing need to be right about something...
  5. Lana, PLEASE participate in this thread. Ed has a desperate cringing need to be right about something.
  6. Although, actually, he's probably not a sociopath. Though there's only two chances of moslon knowing why not: slim, and none. And you're both half-right on the Fox/Fox News issue. They're both owned by the same people...but run day-to-day by different people. The instruction to cancel the OJ-fest could just as easily come from NewsCorp management as from Fox Network management. It did not however, go through FoxSnooze's management itself.
  7. Random House, American Heritage, Merriam-Webster (abridged and unabridged), Oxford English Dictionary. And it's not "Webster and Unabridged". It's "Webster's Unabridged..." "Unabridged" means "complete" or "not truncated". And I highly doubt your "definition" of science is in there.
  8. I'll start thinking those two topics are remotely similar when the Senate and House approve resolutions authorizing OJ to kill his wife.
  9. "My views" are the dictionary definition, and how science (good science, at least) is practiced. I suggest you get a new dictionary.
  10. No, because that's not a definition of science either. Now you're just trying to ensure that evolution and creation have equal footing...when they never will, because one's science, and one's religion. Science, contrary to popular belief, does not deal in "fact". Science is the formulation of rules about how natural systems behave based on observation, empirical evidence, and testing (in the broadest sense of the word, i.e. not limited to active laboratory investigation). Generally, scientific "fact" is just a really, really accurate theory - Newtonian gravitation, for example, was a very accurate description of gravity...until they observed phenomena it couldn't explain, empirically measured said phenomena, came up with a viable alternate theory, and tested said theory against observable phenomena and empirical evidence. Hence, General Relativity. Similarly, evolutionary theory has developed. Darwin (among many, MANY others over the past century and a half) observed phenomena science couldn't readily explain, empirically measured it, and came up with a viable theory to explain it, which was then tested against other observable phenomena and empirical measurement. And that is science. Creation (or better, intelligent design, which unlike creation is actually claimed to be science), on the other hand, fails one simple critera for a scientific theory: it's not testable. How do you make an empirical measure of observable pheonmena that demonstrates development is dictated by ex cathedra decision making? The key words there being "empirical measure" - I've heard plenty of arguments akin to "The eye is such an amazing and complex organ, it had to have been designed by a higher power." That's not empirical measurement. (And frankly, empirical measures usually indicate just the opposite - if an intelligent designer "designed" the human eye, for example, he must have been drunk off his ass when he did. Reaction to light levels is needlessly slow, color sensitivity is needlessly concentrated, and the attachment of the retina to the optic nerve is a just plain silly structure, causing as it does a blind spot and vulnerability to trauma.) And the usual answer to that is something like "Well, the designer must have had a reason, who are we to question it?" And thus, the "scientific" theory boils down always to the hypothesis that isn't based on observable phenomena and isn't empirically measurable. Hence...not science.
  11. Know anything about the ecological disaster that is the High Aswan Dam? Lake Nasser behind the dam is a public health nightmare; disrupting the flood cycle of the lower Nile ruined Egypt's most fertile farmland; reduced river flow devastated the Nile Delta (allowing salt water from the Med to back-flow into it), and the fisheries in the eastern Med are all !@#$ed up from lack of nutrients the Nile used to provide. And Three Gorges is how much bigger than the High Aswan?
  12. Not now. They will when they finish the Three Gorges Dam.
  13. In other words, Joe...yes, it does. In fact, Hubbert's theory practically requires this sort of find.
  14. The problem with Hubbert's theory is that it extrapolates local effects to a global level without conclusively demonstrating the validity of such (it probably is valid; I've just never seen the validity proven, merely assumed). And frankly, I don't see where the article you linked contraindicates Hubbert's theory - where it states it correctly, which it usually doesn't. But then, misdirection and obfuscation is hardly unexpected from an industry source.
  15. The arguments against illegal immigrants have, because the definition of "illegal" has.
  16. Not even thirty years ago, "!@#$" (what, are we eight-year olds? Type it out...) could be heard on prime-time television. The "unique power of the N word" is a very recent and manufactured development, and hardly "unique".
  17. Why the hell are you people comparing immigration laws a century apart? They've changed, just a little, in the intervening hundred years.
  18. Shouldn't he be banned too, then?
  19. What the hell? Ending the period early? Are they invoking the little league "mercy" rule? (I know they're not. Sure looks funny, though. )
  20. I hope it's an STD clinic, because they are !@#$ing Tampa hard. Six goals now. The Sabres are dominating this period so much, I keep expecting to see Peter Forsberg on the ice...
  21. JP will throw an interception, too...
  22. Would have been better to go ahead with the book and TV deal...then give all Simpson's earnings from such to the Brown and Goldman families. "Sorry, OJ...you still have to pay this judgement off..."
  23. Another win would be an absolute disaster for this franchise.
