I always really liked the Qui Gon/Obi Wan vs. Darth Maul fight. Top notch choreography.

"Southern Man" - Neil Young
since he died, the only ones that really have been talented have been Common, Eminem(pre-8mile) (in a satirical way), and Outkast (not their poppy stuff, but more of their early stuff like Rosa Parks, B.O.B). those have the only really lyrically sound rappers since his death.Far too often, i watch the videos or hang w/ buddies and wanna vomit over the crap spewing from rappers mouths now and days, because it is so meaningless, and about how they getting paid.
I think you 'forgot about Dre.'

Wow, we got it past the 30 yard line.... Let's run the ball... 3 yards, boy we are controlling the line, let's do it again.... 2 yards, damn we got to pass, but at least JP can't be sacked for a safety at the 40 yard line, can he? He completed a pass and had protection! Let's throw caution to the wind and try it again... Pass interference, 2 friggin first downs.... 13 yard run, now Indy must be getting tired let's keep running.... damn holding, who cares let's keep running.... 9 and 4 yards, 3rd and 4, I guess we got to pass.... Hope Indy doesn't guess pass on 3rd down... Another completion.... Let's keep running time off the clock, maybe we can hold the ball for 60 minutes and win 3-0... Back to the run, no yards, better try that again.... Botched handoff now we are at the 34 yard line, that would be a 52 yard feild goal on 4th down. If we miss then Indy will have a real short field, so I guess I can call a pass, good things can happen, maybe a completion, but if JP get's sacked Moorman can punt and if JP throws an int to the 10 yard line it is as good as a punt. Wow a 24 yard completion to the 10 yard line!!!! Can't chance it any longer, let's run it into the line and settle for the 3 points.....
And you wonder why they are going no where....
Why do none of those calls seem bad to me?

He didn't say GOOD, he said competent. Lets hope Marv can give us 1 or 2 decent free agents and a high pick (or two?) this offseason to at least get this line to the point that its competent. Because right now, I don't even feel like we can adequately judge JP's abilities. If JP gets behind a halfway-decent line and still looks like Billy Joe Hobert, then we move on.
-
I feel the same way. Until the guy has a fair shake with a half decent line its hard to tell for sure what kind of ability he has. So now what? My uneducated instinct is to change our play calling to adjust to our lines capabilities, or lack there of. So how about some slants. Three step drops. Screens. QB draws to take advantage of his running ability. Passing on first down.
The last thing I want to see is this line trying to execute a HB screen (if thats what you meant). Also, you want to pass on 1st down when the new line has shown itself to be one of the worst in pass protection, yet a decent running line? Lets run the ball all day long. In fact, I like the way the game was called against Indy. Run the ball constantly, mixing in a few slants, WR screens (to Parrish this time!), hitches, etc. And then you try a deep ball every once in awhile. Around 15 pass attempts from Losman seems about right.

But JP doesn't throw a lot of easy dumpoff passes; ala Holcomb for most of the TE's and RB's are helping with the blocking. The biggest difference between the two is that Brunell is an aging QB with no upside and a weakening arm and doesn't have the ability or arm strength to throw the ball down the field; ala Holcomb. JP can and when those plays are called he has shown that he can make all the throws. And in the redzone, not having a dominant run blocking O-line, smaller WR's, and not receiving threat at TE become even bigger factors in the redzone when the field shrinks and defenses have less real estate to cover.
He can make all the throws? He consistently underthrows outs and launches fly routes 5 yards out of bounds. I mean, when is the last time he threw an accurate deep ball?
That said, I'm still pulling for the guy.

See there is your first problem, you think a guy who runs hard to a hole, regardless of if it is there or not, has no receiving skills, and even worse blocking skills, is a good back.
Then you question whether keeping Mcgahee who has better vision for holes, better topend speed, 1000 times better receiver, and and even better blocker (no Thurman granted), is the right thing to do?
When has McGahee shown himself to be any kind of receiver?

Quoted for emphasis.
Running the ball on 3rd and 10 is in no way showing a lack of confidence in JP! Its merely showing that they don't trust the offensive line to protect him long enough to get the ball that far downfield (particularly when the D knows whats coming). Its better to plunge ahead with Train for a few yards than to go 7 or 8 yards backwards. Puts our best player, the punter, in a better situation to help the team.

RT - shane olivea - 7th round (2004)
RG - mike goff - 3rd round (bengals, 1998)
C - Nick Hardwick - 3rd round (2004)
LG - Kris Dielman - undrafted
LT - marcus mcneill - 2nd round (2006, 50th pick overall)
TE - antonio gates - undrafted
2006 - 4th overall in offense (7-2)
2005 - 10th overall in offense (9-7)
2004 - 10th overall in offense (12-4)
28-13 overall (.683 winning percentage)
some teams can find diamonds in the rough; some teams can't ...
Diamonds in the rough? Sixty percent of that starting offensive line is first day picks!

I said this in another thread. The execution of those plays so far has been ugly. It seems like every time they run a bootleg, JP turns and is instantly confronted by a pass rusher coming from the side he's trying to roll to. If we don't learn to execute those plays any better, then the less we call them the better off we'll be.

To those who say he has no awareness and can't feel the rush, there is no pocket to step up into. Case in point: yesterday he stepped up into the pocket to avoid Freeney's outside rush but stepped right into McFarland for a sack. The O-line is not forming a pocket whatsoever and the said thing is that the playcalling hasn't adjusted to it. There should be way more moving pocket schemes and playaction passes. I'm hoping Reyes or even Merz can step in at RG for an injured and ineffective CV and provide some relief.
You know, I might agree with you if not or the fact that every time they try a play action bootleg, someone comes untouched from the side that Losman is trying to roll to. With that kind of pressure right in his face that quickly, these plays have no chance for success.

Right, and isn't that just Losman pointing out that he isn't the one who calls the plays? Or am I missing the meaning? If that is all he's saying, how does that lead one to question his ability to "diagnose a game and act accordingly"?

JP Losman spoke of guys continually missing assignments yesterday during his post game press conference. He said that it's not getting beat physically or a problem of being outclassed, it's just seems like it's one guy here or there blowing an assignment which destroys the play.He also went on to say that he is no "great play caller" and just runs what is called. This doesn't give me much confidence in both the ability of the line to stop "missing assignments" and JP to diagnose a game and act accordingly. Just some thoughts.
How does Losman pointing out that he isn't the one blocking or calling the plays cause you to question Losman's ability to "diagnose a game and act accordingly"? I'm not seeing the connection.
-
If it was Clements you'd be speaking of his nose for the football and playmaking ability. Heaven forbid you give McGee some credit once in awhile. If it weren't for his unique abilities, this game could have gotten ugly. I just wish he made one more cutback on that kick return.

You mean like we had him do in the Chicago game, and the Detroit game, and to a lesser degree, in the New England game? That turned out real well, eh?
One of the reasons why JP Losman has limited attempts is because he doesn't sustain drives.... when you are consistently having short drives, you have fewer offensive plays, with fewer opportunities to throw.....
JDG
There's that, and there's the fact that we're afraid to call pass plays because nearly every time we do its either a sack or a pass that has to be made without a pocket to step up into. Not to mention we don't have one good recieving option at ANY of the eligible positions.
I'm not an "anybody but Losman" blind apologist. I'm simply reserving judgment on him because from my observations, he still hasn't been given a realistic oppurtunity.

I think "the college kids won't live to see the Bills win a playoff game" would have been more accurate. I can recall playoff losses to Tennesse, Miami and Jacksonville.
