I also used to love FSU, Miami, and FL Gators as well!

They all used to put a huge emphasis on defensive speed, sometimes to the point of having 245lb. defensive ends and what not, but they would fly around and were exciting to watch.

There are only so many elite players in the country.  They can't all go to all the traditionally good programs at the same time.

This thing Alabama has going is unbelievable.  They are getting everyone these days.

That was great when Florida & Miami used to play each other.  I get it with Florida's conference schedule it is tough to schedule tough OOC schedule but it was fun to watch.  I always say College Football just seems a lot better when the BIG 3 from Florida are good kind of the same way when UCLA & USC are good in the same year(which rarely happens)

  2. My daughter & wife are going over her cousins house in west Seneca & my son who is 16 is going to a party so it is just me Saturday so I am going to hopefully get a round of golf in Saturday morning & then I decided I am going build a fire in the driveway in the afternoon, bring the tv out to watch college football, drink about 20 beers and I decided to put a table out by the side walk with all sorts of candy & just tell the kids to help themselves.  I don't care how much they take when it is gone it is gone I guess.  & besides after all these kids have been thru with this pandemic crap they deserve some extra candy!  Oh yeah I think I am going to smoke some ribs too.

All that might be true, but beside the point.  The poster said that doing what Kelly did should bar him form entering the NFL.  Plus Kelly specifically didn't want to go to Buffalo.  He probably would have gone to Miami if they drafted him.

But he was all set to go to Buffalo until Bruce Allen's phone call got thru.  It was a viable option.  The scenario you alluded to isn't a viable option for Lawrence due to the difference in money.  So basically if the Jets get the first pick, unless the Jets are idiots and trade it away(ex...Irsay & the Colts) he will be playing for gang green or he will be playing for nobody.  Like Ernie Accorsi said when he was about to swing the trade for Manning "you pass on a franchise QB & you end up regretting it for the next 10 years."

It seems to me the only fair thing to do is to go to the lowest denominator

If one state won't allow fans, no fans anywhere

But the NFL has already thrown down it will leave it to local rules.  I don't think it's fair, but it Is what it Is

It's down to a couple locations, though, right?  It's not like 32 locations all over the country?

Life is not fair.  Like the one poster said why punish the people in florida/tenn/texas because they don't live under stricter guidelines set by the Governor.

BTW, Manfred said last night before the rays/dodgers game that baseball isn't sustainable without the fans.  Said teams loss over 2 billion due to no fans.  Hockey has said they will not start the season unless there is a guaranty fans will be allowed.  Sports will fold as we know it if this continues well into next year.

Lawrence would not be jeopardizing anything - he's a junior. If he stays in school, he runs the risk of getting injured without any guaranteed money. His choice and it probably depends on whether they win the national championship this year.

That will have nothing to do with whether Lawrence returns to Clemson or not next year

    Sure he is.

This is what the poster said:  "IMO, you go where you're drafted.  If you have a problem with that, there's always the CFL, Arena football, the XFL, whatever.  But no NFL for you."

The difference is the money is not comparable in the CFL/Arena/XFL.  USFL at the time was paying top price for premium talents, especially at the QB position.

I was thinking that the Bills should have gone for two at 23-16.  If successful, then the fg KC kicked to make it 26, would have meant the Bills still could tie the game with another TD & 2 points.

To me you need to be aggressive & wonder what the wonderful sheet says is the play at that time😜.

The last drive (and int) meant nothing as it was a 9 point spread (2 scores).

Going by the book it was the right call at the time but I would be lying if I said I wasn't thinking the same exact thing at the time.  Sometimes you got to think outside the box.

I think a sample size of less than 10 NFL fgs is premature

He has a huge leg and he's been drilling extra points lately

He had to work out some nerves. He may be not good but he could turn out to be good. It was terrible conditions today, even butker missed an xp

Beane should took Blankenship over Bass.  That kid has kicked & kicked well in big games.   Classic case of the Bills trying to get cute.

I remember that KC game and the thanksgiving massacre in Detroit in 1994 as being the worst non playoff national games that the SB teams played in. Last night was a mild flashback to those games. The big difference for me though is that those games were much more of a shock because the SB Bills teams were so stacked with talent. The KC game especially was a shocking comprehensive beat down of one the best teams in NFL history. We are getting very deluded if we think the current squad is anywhere near the talent of the SB years.

That Detroit, that was after their 4th super bowl, that team was definitely on the down swing and that game showed it.  I remember I was in Nevada visiting mky cousins that Thanksgiving.  I remember we had a whole bunch of cousins watching the game.  I couldn't believe how they were bad mouthing Kelly.  They thought he sucked.   Which was a different perspective than one on WNY, where for the most part everybody thought he was  really good.  I was taken a back by it.

For the record, proud Gen-Xer here.

The “glory days” were middle school and high school for me. What a fantastic time in a young man’s life for his favorite team to be so damn good! I lived it. Often in person. Fortunate to have actually been at legendary games in person, including “The Comeback”, and “51-3”, amongst others.

BUT...that was a long time ago. I personally no longer care what these guys think/say/do anymore. It’s completely irrelevant, in my opinion.

And I cannot back the “to each their. own” vibe enough. You want to hang on to that ancient history, then you enjoy that. I just feel the young guns shouldn’t be kept in the shadows of these fossils anymore.

Totally agree with this.  Was a senior in high school the first super bowl, what a great time to be a Bills fan.  But that time is over, it is a new era in Bills football and the future is bright.  In some weird way, I think the Bills were held back because they were always looking back to the glory days.  Perfect example was hiring MarV Levy as GM when he clearly wasn't qualified, or bringing Buddy Nix back.  Hopefully next year they let us pack the stadium again because it will be quite the scene there next season if so.

Really man? That is what we need now? I am not even getting into the pandemic concerns. Whatever happened to fair competition? McD was unhappy even with the Fins having 13K fans. Now this?

What do you care, the Bills have already played them and beat them.  Miami could play to packed houses the rest of the season, they still won't finish above .500.  Seems a bit extreme at this stage of the game but so does not letting any fans in at the Ralph even though our daily is usually below 1.5%.  Weird times we live in.

Slot machines are glorified scratch off tickets with bells and whistles. There is absolutely no skill in playing them. That includes Video Poker. Basically, any video based gaming device. If you're not playing with a dealer, might as well go down the street to the bodega and buy some scratchers.

    Couldn't agree more.

As a Canes fan, I have a feeling (and hope) that things are turning around.  UM has a huge game against Clemson coming up. It would be great to beat them, but I really hope that we can at least make a game of it (Clemson is that good).  Playing Clemson well at Clemson would certainly move the program in the right direction.  Winning would be even better.

P.S. D'Eriq King has been fantastic.  If he plays well, we at least have a shot.

P.P.S. Fun fact, the Gators' QB Trask backed up King in high school. They both seem like great guys (as well as very good QBs).

I loved King at Houston and when he opted out last season(I think it was the 3rd game) I knew no matter what Holgerson was saying he was going somewhere else.  I hope Miami beats them Saturday, sick of Dabo, I think they got a chance.

  13. As much as I like to gamble, I stay away from the casinos.  When I go to Vegas I spend 95% of my time in the sports book.  I never go to the Casinos around here.  Used to play a lot of Black jack & some Craps but I don't know, between the automatic card shufflers & the idiots at the table that don't have a clue the right way to play I have kind of loss interest.  I never touch the slots.  I have seen first hand what the slots can do to a person plus I like to see where my money is going.  MY FIL, who I love, lost his life savings playing Video Poker, & when I say his life savings I mean he probably loss close to a million over the years.  Sad but I could see how it happens.

My friends old boss, who retired & moved to Vegas him and his friends created some kind of device on their phones, they would scour the strip and find weak roulette dealers that would spin the wheel with similar speeds everytime and they would be able to predict what quadrant the ball would land in.  They made a fortune, but got caught & got banned from most of the Casinos in Vegas.  It is an interesting story though.

Ah yes, the same Iowa game where CJ Johnson dropped an easy bomb in the endzone.  Wasn't Allen's best game for sure, but the talent around him in 2017 compared to 2016 was like going from a Mercedes to a Ford Pinto.   Wyoming lost C (Redskins), WR (Bears), WR (Saints), TE (Patriots) and RB (Bengals) after the 2016 season.    The 2017 squad was bad yet he still managed to get them to a bowl game and win.

I always have a big college opener party & I had Wyoming on one of the TVs and watched most of that game.  I had a lot of money on Wyoming that day so I distinctly remember that game.  His decisions seemed late & he seemed really bothered that day by the Iowa pass rush.  But like you said he had no talent around him, especially playing a decent power 5 team.  He had similar problems against Oregon 2 weeks later when he went 9-24 for 64 yards and 1 int in a 49-13 loss.  That is when I really had doubts about Allen.

I used to love the Miami/FSU rivalry back in the day. Being a Canes fan, as of the last 10 or 15 years it seems either one team sucks, or they both suck, so it's not much of a rivalry anymore.....I will say Lashlee is making the Hurricanes offense fun to watch again.

I was telling my son before last Saturday's game that there was no better rivalry as FSU/Miami growing up as a kid.  Sad how these teams can't seem to get it together.  You would think they would with all the talent down there.

That team should be expected to reload.

Yeah they had a lot of people opt out and loss a ton of talent to the NFL.  Coach O is okay but don't confuse him with Saban or Urban Meyer.  He was blessed with a once in a life time generational team last year that even he couldn't screw up.  They are going to lose 3 or 4 games this year and be irrelevant with consideration to the National Championship

  17. One thing did concern me with Rosen.  I remember his last year at UCLA, opening weekend they were playing Texas A&M at the Rose Bowl.  A&M was up huge & Rosen lead the Bruins back to a monumental comeback.  He was terrific in the second half.  When he threw the winning TD pass with about 40 seconds left, the place was going wild, Gus Johnson was the play by play guy and he was gushing about Rosen, while the rest of the team was celebrating Rosen kind of celebrated by himself, jumping up in the air towards the sideline but none of his teammates were mobbing him.  I got blasted by a few posters when I brought it up at the time, but I think it was very telling.  Rosen is a me guy and not a leader of men and not very liked by his teammates.

  18. I watched Allen a few times in college and never came away really impressed especially when he would play upper tier opponents like Iowa opening day 2017.  It wasn't pretty.  What kind of changed my thought process about Allen was I was out drinking with my boss around Christmas time and his son & friend came up to meet us.  His friend went to Wyoming.  he told me "don't read too much into Allen's stats, he has no talent around him & throwing to a bunch of walk on receivers."  I started changing my tune about him.  I knew his tangibles were off the chart compared to the other QB's coming out that year.  With that being said, I would of took Rosen.  Glad I was wrong.

I dunno, I've seen a lot worse contact not called. A ref makes that call, it's a good bet he is handing a team a win. ofc I wanted the Bills to win, but even Allen said he hates to win that way, or so it had been reported.

We have all seen worse contact, but it was the right call.  You can't make that much contact with the receiver after 5 yards and not expect a call.   Does the ref always call it, especially in that situation, no.  It is nice to see that the bills benefitted from this with the game on line   Kuddos to the ref for throwing the flag.

Should Ryan Fitzpatrick be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame when he is done with his career?

    I say YES.

First, it's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Stats, or Hall of Super Bowl Victories, or Hall of Franchise QBs.

Second, I'd argue that he is the Greatest non-Franchise/Journeyman QB in NFL history.

Third, folks say a good way of measuring worthiness is "If you were telling the Story of the NFL, would he be included?", and I say YES. When talking about this decade how could you not talk about the dude who has unseated and benched numerous 1st rd "Franchise" prospects?

Fourth, ok lets talk stats. Fitz just passed Troy Aikman, Steve Young, and Phil Simms on the All-time Passer list. He is 600 yards away from passing Tony Romo, and less than 2000 yards away from leap-frogging Jim Kelly. If he starts this entire season, he'll likely end up #26 on the all-time passing list.

He's a great dude, and a heck of a character.

The campaign starts here. FITZ FOR HALL OF FAME!

Interesting topic.  Fitz' certainly has the stats for the HOF.  I was watching the game a bit yesterday, and he is fun to watch.  The guy just doesn't give a sh*t & flings it wherever he feels like it.  He is brett Favre without the rocket for an arm.  But he has made it work.  The thing that is going to keep him out of there is he never played in a payoff game, that is a nail in the coffin for a QB in terms of making the HOF.

My buddies and I are all in the lottery every year, but rarely win. We are all in Atlanta.

However, I have a friend up in Amherst, NY (registered for the lottery with an Amherst zip code), and he wins tickets like clockwork every stinking year.

Makes us think they do prioritize 1. Out of towners, from 2. "Fancy" neighborhoods.

Well I am an out of towner and have been in it for 15 years & never won.  Just got notified yesterday I didn't win for the 2021 Masters.  My buddie won tickets to the practice round this year but there not letting fans in.  I haven't talked to him in awhile but my guess is they just took whoever won this year & forward it to next year.

& yes if I won tickets I would look to scalp.

  22. I want to ask a question without seeming insensitive and Exile in Illinois last year when the fires were going explained it better than I could but these fires especially in Calif seem inevitable every year.  Why do people continue to flock to Calif?  It is pretty obvious these forest fires are inevitable, as they happen every single year.  Your house has a chance to burn down every single year, the air is polluted constantly due to the smog, over crowding, the real estate pricing is in another stratosphere compared to most of the country, earth quakes, gangs, scores of homeless people.  Exile explained last year that Calif with it's climate & terrain was just not meant to be lived in, yet it is the most populas state in the country.

I mean are people drawn there just because of the weather.  Been to Calif many times, it seems dirty to me.  You got the ocean, but I have been to the many places on the East Coast & the West Coast & the beach towns on the east coast are cleaner & nicer and the water you is more suitable for swimming activities.  The Beaches on the west coast the water seems dirty, dark & cold.  I don't know why anybody would want to live in Calif.

Now we’re getting somewhere.  In the absence of foolproof testing, amateurs whose activities support large paychecks for administrators and coaches shouldn’t be exposed to risk of either death or significant long term physical consequence for the purpose of playing a game.  In other words, I’m against the exploitation of children and young adults.  You apparently feel differently, and that’s fine.  Thank you for not tarnishing your prior post with lies, exaggerations, and falsehoods.

Has one college kid that has tested positive for COVID even ended up in the hospital?  I have heard they have had -0- hospitalizations.  Life is full of risks.  Stepping on that football field, kids have far greater risks than Covid.  If this is truly your stance, than you should be against football all together.

    22 hours ago, SectionC3 said:

See Washington State re: your last point.

Is the daily antigen testing foolproof?  To my understanding, it’s not.  So why not wait until Spring?  If this truly is about “student athletes,” then there should be no harm in waiting until Spring to give science the opportunity to get a better handle on the pandemic.  But, as we know, this really is about the conference’s TV and bowl contracts, so we’ll unnecessarily rush the kids back in and see what happens.

& BTW, spring is an awful dangerous idea on so many levels.  So your going to have these kids play in spring, turn around 2 months later & start summer practices or getting ready for the kids that get drafted to go into NFL Camps for the first time.  Talk about injury waiting to happen.  My guess is you have never played a contact sport in your life.
